The success of the Maverick is due to its low cost compared to traditional pickups. Anything all electric would be too expensive for this market I believe. I think a better option and honestly a more likely possibility would be the 2.0L and 2.0L hybrid powertrains from the Corolla Cross. But for a more utilitarian vehicle it would be better with a traditional geared transmission.

    EV - no thanks!

I sure hope Toyota gives us a hybrid AWD small truck! I have no interest if it's EV only.

  • @stevehenderson2571

Caught my interest until I saw electric. 👎

for the love of god can we please just have a 2-door long bed version?! it would probably end up being the best-selling work truck in america!

  • @secondcreekworkshop3908

The compact Truck truck won't cannibalize Tacoma sales because many people like me will not buy a Tacoma or Tundra but we would buy a compact Toyota pickup.

  • @toyotarockcrawler

I would love for the mini trucks to make a comeback. But not as an EV.

  • @Ryan-cf6lc

Maverick was a game changer for being affordable but unfortunately here in Canada after two years the base price has gone up $8000 making the maverick much less appealing.

  • @daves4202

If it's fully EV, it won't sell. Toyota is smarter than that.

If the they make it completely electric, it will initially sell a bunch, but then it will fall on its face like the Lightning did.

I think the Stout has 2 options.

Would be very interested in a Stout Prime setup - 40 or so miles of electric range backed up by a simple inline 4 boosted by the battery. Run short errands as an EV, still have the long trip capabilities of a standard truck.

I have a Maverick XLT hybrid now and love it, but asked the local Toyota dealer to notify me when the Stout becomes available to order. A Stout hybrid Crew cab, based on the RAV4 powertrain would be awesome for those of us who don't need a powerful beast of a truck, but like the versatility and economy of Maverick style vehicle with Toyota reliability, would check off all the boxes. I have owned a few Toyotas over the years and trust the Brand.

I hope it's a throwback with a natural engine and minimal fluff. One can dream.

  • @gmundenat

Keep it simple! No censors, no turbo. Make the hybrid an option. A 2wd xtra cab with the 2.5/8 speed transmission. I’ll spring for the JBL system, but make it an option. Keep it simple and keep it small!!

  • @daivietnguyen7289

It’s the right time for Toyota to bring something small, cheap with the legendary Toyota reliable to the market !!!

  • @Spoons89631

Really I wish they would just make something like the old pre-taco pickups. Cheap, small, fuel efficient, no -frills pickup with at least 3500Lbs of towing. I really dont like the 4 door unusable bed combo everyone has gone with on the small trucks and if Toyota would make a proper work truck to slot between the maverick and ranger I think they would have a hit for tradesmen and couples that dont need a big truck.

I hope Toyota builds this and offers it with a traditional internal combustion engine and manual transmission!

  • @tkmedia3866

I want a new Stout! Been 20 years since my last one.

  • @TorontoMiniClub

The RAV4 is due for a redesign soon and the plant in Ontario builds hybrids so the Stout could be based on a shared platform with the RAV4 much like the Maverick shares a platform with the Escape/Bronco Sport.
