  • This may not be the same on the V70 XC70 series as some steering wheels have smaller access holes and different airbag unlocking mechanism

Great video! This is the best video I've seen for removing the steering wheel. Once you've done it a couple times it gets easier, but first time DIY'ers can really benefit from this instructional video.

Thank you bro, your instruction is so good how to place the screwdriver to unclip the airbag. I was poking that hole up to getting into rage and without results. Got it off in 5 seconds with your instructions. God bless you !

Absolutely brilliant video. Tools needed to remove airbag: one Philips screwdriver long and thin enough to push the spring out of the way on each side of the two airbag tabs that hold it in place. I just changed the airbag cover on my V70R from the post-recall plastic one to the original leather. Be careful when prying off the plastic airbag cover (I used a large flat head screwdriver) not to damage the fabric airbag underneath. You'll see what I mean when you remove your cover. Once the cover is removed, you see the actual airbag. Simply press your leather cover over where the plastic one was, making sure that all the tabs are in place. Easy!

    Thanks for this great video!
You did explain the process of removing the S60 steering wheel very well.
By the way, did you record this video a long time ago? Because there is snow in the video. Or is it wintertime in some parts of Canada?
Thanks a lot for this video 👌👍

True, a video filmed past winter. Climate changes is getting milder winters actually, good thing (for us)

Can you show how to remove airbag cover? The warranty wants to take my R airbag cover and replace it with normal one, so I want to get a junkyard one to replace it before I warranty the airbag

Will the 2007 steering wheel fit the 2000 V70 II?

    Hi, thanks for the vid.
I have a 2002 S60. Can I simply fit a 2004-2009 air bag unit into my steering wheel?
Do you think my 2002 airbag would be in danger in Europe, under continental climate? The local dealer says it's not, but now I saw the very same airbag is built in US cars and mine.
Did you ever see how to dismantle an atomic bomb..... no no not U2 :)... an air bag?

Good question.. Europe doesn't have humidity as in southern US states. However the eastern Europe had very hot summers these past decades. As for using an SRS from another year, I cannot answer this because it's a major safety matter. If an airbag doesn't inflate, the driver is seriously wounded or killed. The seatbelts in modern cars do not fully retain the occupant, so when an airbag doesn't inflate, the body hits very hard the steering wheel. A car maker may install at some point airbags that deploy differently than on previous years, and this must work with a different seatbelt tension setting. There were dual stage airbags at some point. So there can be changes through the years

I have a 2006 S60 that's showing "Immobilizer see manual". I've tried several recommended tricks to reset it but nothing has worked. The battery went completely dead. When I opened the trunk with the master key, the alarm sounded. After recharging the battery I hooked up the scanner. It couldn't communicate with the TCM. I cleared all codes. Then it started showing problems with the ABS. Besides turning the car over to the dealership, is there anything else I can do?
I've tried the holding trip meter down method, switching to position II five times then cranking, and locking with the key and unlocking five times. It cranks like it will start for a few seconds then the immobilizer notice comes on. Any advice would be appreciated!

Classical issue when the battery goes flat on cars parked for a while. The explanation from a volvo tech is that when the battery goes flat while the car is parked long term, the CEM gets corrupted and forgets to recognize the codes from your keys. If this is true, unfortunately this needs a trip to the Volvo dealership ($$$) to reprogram the CEM for your keys - just a reprogramming with your old keys. Some shops can also do this, look up Yt for videos with key reprogramming, you many find such shop in your area. For this reason, I recommend leaving the car with the battery disconnected when not using it for a while czcams.com/video/rDyxtusEs2Q/video.html

@@Peppermint1 thank you so much. That's exactly what happened! I had no idea that a car could forget its own key. Thank you for the information and the quick response. You're the best!
