Not even dragon quest itself. They hate just about anything that comes out of Asian countries. Wu-kong, stellar blade, Tsukihime and most anime. They even hate things that draw inspirations from and cater to these countries without inserting DEI nonsense into them. The best example being Ghost of Tsushima.

The problem is not the V.A being trans itself. One the most badass characters in a JRPG; Arngrim was dubbed by Maddie Blaustein, a trans woman, since she was still able to get that male tone.

The refusal to answer the shareholder questions at the time was an answer of sorts all on its own. That was a pretty solid confirmation at the time that they weren't cutting ties. I stopped playing after endwalker. The story is played out and even with the graphical update the graphics are still at 2010 levels. Dungeons have gotten boring with all the bosses doing the same mechanics and it's just an erp game now

Thanks to ESG they're too big to fail. Quite literally funded by tax dollars to push this stuff. Then use the law to dictate the market and force companies to play ball by their rules or risk lawsuits. At that point the only way to remain profitable is to dump your investments into ESG and take the money. They don't operate according to the market it's textbook Cronyism.

Anything made in the last 5 years is suspect. If we dont buy these games for a few years, theyll change. Videogames have a long development cycle so we wont see the results for games that were already in development, but we can see changes for games coming out in the future.

Another thing becoming industry standard is replaceing "he and she" pronouns with "they/them". It was done in Hogwarts legacy and Rise of the Ronnin, your characters gender is never acknowledged by anyone in the game, you are just a gender-blob to every NPC.
This is some PSU tier stuff, where you're literally just a personalityless coolie to the actual protagonist. Might as well not let me create a character at that point.
To be fair, having to voice and program in two different versions of any given quote any time someone uses your pronouns is pretty obnoxious work, not to mention much more expensive (regarding the voice part; you have to pay them for that alternate take, too.). Not hard, just... eugh.
Mostly just making the point that I wouldn't take that as a woke thing innately. Though in the case of that game, maybe it is. Context is key.
I've been trying to warn people for 20 years that if you let the localizers take so many liberties with Dragon Quest translations, it would only escalate. Dragon Quest XI was already like 50% of the dialogue being completely altered and various costumes being censored. This is just them doing what they've already been doing.

Honestly, I will never understand why Ted Woolsey was a localizer for japanese games to begin with rather than simply a writer for western games. Appearently his writing was so good that he got Kefka from FFVI retconned into the character we know today, but it just does not make a lot of sense why these practices were ever "in" since why bother to essencially get the game written twice when it ends up just meddling with the consistency of the intended vision? Why even localize rather than making something up entirely at that point?
@@lpfan4491 As much as I'm not a fan of localizations, it made some sense in the 80s and 90s. When you had very small gaming companies making games for peanuts by todays standards. And they didn't have the money to hire a regional consultant and a whole team to oversee the translation of the game to English. But by the PS1 era, they definitely had the money. These days, SquareEnix does have a huge internal Japanese staff dedicated just to overseeing localizations. But notice how the localizations actually got worse. Richard Honeywood is the one who started all the dialect/accent junk in Square games with Chrono Cross and Dragon Quest VIII. But he's been gone for almost 20 years. Yet the head of localiztion in SE ofJapan is the one who keeps pushing for the accents/dialects. And not just in DQ, but it's crept into Final Fantasy, Mana and other IPs. But few people complained about it until recently.

I really hate this trend. Games like Splatoon are also affected, where the previous games clearly defined male/female then was changed to "style" instead. But the worst part has got to be how the localisation changed a female character (who was confirmed as female in the previous game, even on the localised side) to "they/them" for absolutely no reason. They didn't even invent a new story or anything to go with this change, they just straight up changed it because they could.

I think that because people at that time were tolerating it but are growing ever increasingly annoyed. However, more people from other Countries including mine, are starting to take notice that Western activists are forcing many Japanese games to Westernize and censor various things that many people who follow Japanese pop culture like.
Edit: Also this goes beyond games. We also have taken notice that Western activists are the ones forcing their ideology into our Countries by pressuring our governments and completely bypassing the population. So now we are all watching more closely

I almost sort of like it for this game, besides the "Type B/Type A" stuff. I don't know why they think more people prefer this over male or female. Picking a female in DQ3 is just WAY better than picking a male. They have exclusive, and rather good, gear pieces that males don't get. The best personality trait, with the best stat growth for most, is Vamp and that's female exclusive. Same with ones like princess and such. That said, idk if they are getting rid of the bunny girl jester class or other things I'd dislike seeing them get rid of.
