No wonder.... Those 'game journalist' are the ones who create this mess in current gaming industry.
Alanah Pearce is egotistical trash. Besides IGN, she also pushed to get herself a NPC Role in Cyberpunk, which affected her bias towards liking that game because she played a (crappy) character in it.
She had other garbage vids on her channel too, like her Stellar Blade takes.

What about telling them they're a *disabled mistake?* I mean, both are bad, but you combine them? Almost a hate crime.

Both.
@@PassWiseP1 agreed, she says it in her video that in a way its a situational disability to play the game. She said basically, When I'm being hounded by enemies or fighting a boss and my 2 year old is like sticking a fork in a socket or something I can't pause the game. Even though you can just quit and come back later. A pause feature also isnt that big of a deal albeit it would take away a bit of the difficulty and experience of getting overwhelmed by enemies. But it is going to take a bit to add and there's just no point for Fromsoft to do so. Its a very small thing that may require lots of time, effort, and money. Not a lot of people are complaining about how there's no pause. So no need to make pause button. The best thing she could do is care for her children first before doing anything else. Play at a time when they're asleep or smth.
How is this my problem miss? If you cannot play, then go away. We are closed.

Situational Disability is a term in the Microsoft Accessibility Design Toolkit. This toolkit is a standardised Accessibility framework used across the games industry.
It’s called being a parent, not a disability.
I think your comment pretty much sums up what everyone thinks or is trying to express.
I don't disagree that children disrupt gaming. Work and relationships disrupt gaming. Actually everything that isn't gaming disrupts gaming. But the way she's expressed it is understandably offensive to so many. For a writer you'd think she might have a better way to express this opinion. Using the expression 'situational disability' suggests she's a bit of a drama-queen. A lot of people are these days, and I think she simply demonstrating how the internet is a perfect platform to expand on this attitude, and announce it to an audience. I wonder if it's fair to say her partners have all be 'situational disabilities' to as I'm sure they occasionally expected a little attention at inconvenient moments. I'm also wondering how they refer to her; my guess 'high-maintenance'!
@@quantumjet253 Most "writers" these days really shouldn't be called that because they can't even write a coherent sentence, never mind a coherent paragraph. This goes for columnists, journalists, and yes, even novelists. Everything they write sounds the same and is so full of current month jargon and short-hand that it will be extremely dated in less than a year.
@@kitalalaris Sure. But a 'writer', like any 'professional' is essentially defined as someone paid to fulfill the job description. I think the issue lies, ironically, in the our langauge. We don't have words to fill in the gaps between 'professional' and 'competent'. I purposely misuse 'amateur' to describe so-called 'professionals' but of course I've no logical argument if anyone points out that the person I'm criticising is employed to do their job. I don't disagree with you.
@@quantumjet253 Actually now you mention it, the whole professional vs amateur thing might be a good distinction and argument in and of itself, because if I recall correctly the word amateur comes from a word that essentially means doing what you love or doing for passion. Whereas with a professional, that's usually not the case now days.

Mark on a 17min video). Her entire point, made literally within the first few minutes of the video if you watched it, was that the elden ring discourse is toxic because it revolves too often around people claiming your playthrough is not legitimate for using certain aspects of the game, for example actually taking the time to explore and level up your scadu buffs, or using spirit summons, she was saying use everything at your disposal and not let people tell you otherwise. if i'm in the game and have to go poop, have to cook, do chores, ect. i open the map, hit Y, X, A, and suddenly I'm at Roundtable Hold and I'm good till I finish said poop
Another 2000 something adult child. It's called sacrifice OR parenting 101. My God I fear for that kids safety!
this is what is destroying modern gaming. We have people like this who can not seem to do basic parenting. Hey, just don't play and be with your child!
She does not have a child. Please watch her full video and do a simple google search.

Almost like not all games are for everyone. What a display of entitled stupidity
Situational Disability is a term in the Microsoft Accessibility Design Toolkit. This toolkit is a standardised Accessibility framework used across the games industry.
And almost like people are allowed to have opinions, but of course you shallow failures in life can’t accept that..
Shows how incompetent these journalists are. I feel bad for the kid who’s going to grow up being known as a situational disability.
She does not have a child. A simple google search gives you that answer.
"disability: a physical, mental, cognitive, or developmental condition that impairs, interferes with, or limits a person's ability to engage in certain tasks or actions or participate in typical daily activities and interactions."
having kids does limit a person's ability to engage in certain tasks
why not google situational ability
situational disability is a better term for this case and it means: Situational disabilities are temporary and based on a specific set of circumstances. Examples include broken limbs, environments that inhibit the senses (e.g., a loud music venue), and surgery recovery.
so yeah, kids would fit into this since they take so much of your time. next time dont try to act smart when you're clearly stupid af
The worst Elden Ring take of all time: A woman with an opinion.
Such an L take. You took everything she said out of context and youre just using her to farm views. And the comments here are just as bad as this video lol.
I *used* to like Australian accents.
Same woman that spent 7hrs flying to pluto in Starfield. 7hours doing nothing, 7 hours not looking after your kid.
And this woman is a prime example why some people just shouldn’t have kids.
Cant she just rest at a grace 😂
She does not have a child. She is not saying that she needs an accommodation. Watch her full video.
Imagine you're a kid and you hear your parents calling you a "situational disability". She should be ashamed of herself.
She doesn't even have a child. Like a mf can't even say it would be nice to have a pause button in a mostly offline game? I'm all for the difficulty stuff, but adding a pause button doesn't make shit any easier, it just means you don't have to combatively hold your piss or have some bullshit.
When she's old and senile her kid is gonna play the same card on her
She did not call a child a situational disability. She said that *you* would have a situational disability if you have a kid and are playing a demanding game like Elden Ring.
Also, she does not have a child. It seems like you think she does because Flash made it seem like she does. She never says anything implying that either in her full video, which you should watch before acting like you’re on a moral high ground.
@@ShArKhEaD375Simp harder kuckboy
She is further proof that we have too many "creators" who need to make up shit to comment on.
Lol:
What are being said, - She explained it pretty well, gave reason for pause key.
What you think are being said, - she used a wrong word for it, but valued argument.
What they think are being said, - She thinks kids are disabled. evil evil evil!
There alot more to this lol. sigh sigh sigh.
Then why is she a games journalist? If it's hard to play games with a 2 year old. Like, what the hell is she talking about.
Situational Disability is a term in the Microsoft Accessibility Design Toolkit. This toolkit is a standardised Accessibility framework used across the games industry.
Anyone ever see the movie "children of men"? We are heading down that path
I have a wife, an 8 month baby, and a 6 yr old. I only played at night. i just recently 100 % elden ring and the dlc.
No, she's right. Those games are notoriously hard. They're not for everyone.
Allanah is a ex IGN employee. That should tell you all you need to know about her.
@captaincaptain2128 yeah it tells me you expect me to assume everyone who worked for IGN are the same. Even if this is true, you should do better than that.
@@jonathanbaker4361 I mean, they kinda are.
That dude should stop complaining and pay more attention to his 2 yr old.
Are you calling Alanah a dude? Legitimately trying to understand what you’re saying. If it’s you trying to be insulting, then… alright.
But she doesn’t have a child. A google search will tell you that. Maybe watch the full video to understand what she’s saying.
@@ShArKhEaD375 thank you for correcting my transgression. I will sleep better tonight knowing that there heros like you protecting the internet. God bless you.
If your child is running around looking for a socket to stab with a fork, you shouldn't be playing a video game.
This is ironic coming from the side that makes fun of people being triggered by particular words. She's saying that instead of easy mode, we need more accessibility options to account for certain things that can make you do worse or lose through no fault of your own. This includes any interruptions that may occur while you're playing. These interruptions would be considered "situational disability" as they're either hindering or preventing your ability to play. So a pause button would be an accessibility options that accounts for said disability. You literally agree with her in this video, but you're upset at her word choice.
She's asking for a pause button?
That's literally all she's asking for.
How is this a horrible take?
Misogynistic
If you don't have time to play the game for whatever reason, play something else. Not every game should be for everyone. We are allowed to have niche games.
@@SammEater She's just asking for a pause button, not a whole new gameplay aspect.
@@aydinmakesthings Play something else. Also, the game does have a pause button.
She also said having kids was a disability, that is what I believe people are taking issue with.
Holy Fuck Flash. you took everything she said out of context. I cannot take anything you say now as anything other than fan fic.
They want to put WOKE pause buttons in my single player games!!
I was discriminated against when I couldn’t get a Ferrari due to my “financial disability”😢
some of these comments reek of redditors
A pause button makes a ton of sense. Not having it is BS
LMAO if having a kid means I have a situational disability, do I get disability checks?
Basically she trying to escape the responsibility of being a parent. Fatherless behavior right there

An actual professional victim.
Wow.
She is not a victim, she is not saying that she is - despite the way that Flash frames the 25 seconds of her full video that he plays. She does not have a child. Do a simple google search and watch her full video.
