He was a great character, well written, well played, also proper african looking and even talked about where he came from. It made perfect sense even though black africans where rare in rome, it was plausible and not too much on the nose.

The first Gladiator was brilliant because it was lightning in a bottle: Franzoni on story/script, Zimmer w/ Gerrard, Crowe/Phoenix, and Scott was still making good films. The only advantage the new film has is Denzel, with Pascal’s presence completely negating that into sub-minus territory.

Aurelius ruled around 160-180 AD.
In this movie, if that is to be Nero, he ruled about 100 years before that.

Being a bit of a history geek, Denzel's character in Ancient Rome is totally possible. However, it was the crossbow that did me in... As if the opening battle sequence in the 1st Gladiator movie wasn't historically inaccurate enough, now we have crossbows. Why not have MP-5's and kevlar as well?! Some flash-bang grenades, nightvision goggles... GPS maps... and a nuclear submarine! Why not?! This is, after all, Ridley Scott...

Twister was a good movie for the time period between really sketchy tornado forecasting and pretty reliable and timely forecasting which focused on getting the data necessary to better forecast storms. Modern radar is so much better than it was during the time period that there really aren’t any “stakes” to generate tension around. Also, many of the cast were fairly popular and well known movie and television actors who added increased interest. A sequel without the original cast, who have either aged out or passed on, and featuring a bunch of nobodies has no draw even if it’s good. Kind of like making a Fall Guy movie nearly half a century later.

Dude from like 1990-2010 was just Denzel and Tom Hanks movies fighting for awards. Greatest childhood ever growing up getting one of their movies every year or so.
Denzel isnt the problem. I'll bet he's the only good parts of the movie and only in it a fraction of the time he should be
TBH Denzel will probably be the best part of the movie. Great actor. God forbid HW make an original movie.
People are sick of Pedro Pascal. If I see any actor in too many shows….especially big IP’s then you get oversaturated. If they are clearly out to pump their professional status….which Pedro clearly is since he fought like hell to not wear the the Mando helmet. I don’t blame him, cause he toiled in Hollywood for years….and I would take the money and run like he has! But people just get tired of seeing you in everything!!! And too much quantity over quality in movies these days!!!!!!!
Yup, I'm the same way when it comes to seeing actors in to many movies/shows. It gets annoying because there's probably better actors out there that don't get a chance.

Hollywood is out of ideas that is why they keep remaking all these movies instead of new ideas.
Denzel Washington is a universally loved and respected actor, and this movie is probably beneath him. He is not the issue. My two biggest problems are the awful cringe music and Pedro Pascal. He was fine in Game of Thrones, but he's not the amazing actor that Hollywood is pretending he is. He's Chilean, which is probably why they wanted him to replace John Krasinski as Reed Richards. Can't have a white, straight, male hero in 2024.

i am not a supporter of the music used in the trailer but in its defense. the first movie used rock music from kid rock. its debut was on the superbowl. i remember it.
