    Addiction doesn't only occur in PvP though, so you can't excuse transactions from that particular issue just because there is no PvP. If you are not aware, Maple Story and TFD are both published by Nexon, and the Korean FTC has already fined Nexon for lying on their drop rates.

    • @Xariann
      @Xariann Před 20 dny +2

      @ktpp123 It's similar, it's not the same. Things are cheaper in general.
      Also, why would people "shit on Warframe". on a video that is not about Warframe?

    • @Xariann
      @Xariann Před 20 dny +2

      @ktpp123 Actually yes, if you are going to defend microtransactions, cheaper makes it okay. Trading the plat makes it okay.
      I don't like them in either game, but your point was not, "I don't like micros" it was that another game had them. So micro per micro, the cheaper one is better than the more expensive one.
      I also don't remember ever feeling exasperated grinding in Warframe like I do here.

      @ktpp123 Yes, because MTX is necessary for WF to continue operating. It's a free game, after all. Reasonable prices are reasonable. If you want MTX to disappear from WF, it's like you're wishing to put the devs out of their jobs and close the game entirely.

    I give a shit if there are PVE pay to win bonuses. It incentives developers to make games grindier, so you'll pay more to skip the grind.

      its not ok. pay to win after all, regardless PvP pve

    • @YoloVib3s
      @YoloVib3s Před 21 dnem +9

      So let me get this straight pay to win is basically your paying for the benefit and a bonus to be able to defeat other players via PVP. So if a game is solely PVE there is no pay to win; it’s paid for convenience. Some people don’t have hours and hours of time to just play and they’re willing to pay to be able to enjoy the gaming experience when they do get to play hence the pay for convenience. If the game had a PVP mode, that’s totally different. It is paid to win because you’re paying for a bonus that’s gonna allow you to beat other players.

    • @Blackronin357
      @Blackronin357 Před 21 dnem +1

      There's a line between pay for convienence which I don't always mind, but I also hate due to how much they charge. I'd like to grind a few minutes and then go on about my business in the game to the next level or story point w/ out having to pay $20 to skip grinding for hrs.

      @@Blackronin357 pay to win is the line

    • @EarthboundX
      @EarthboundX Před 21 dnem +4

      @@YoloVib3s Well why should games be really grindy in the first place then? If the "pay for convenience" is there, it means they purposely made the game grindier right, so you'd pay for that convenience? You don't have a problem with that? Artificially making something take longer and possibly less fun so you'll pay more to avoid it?
      The idea of paying to skip playing a video game you are supposed to enjoy is another thing I find really confusing. it's almost like it's a dev saying "our game sucks, pay us to skip most of it to get to the end".

    2:55 By any chance, have you seen the video SkillUp did about 6 years ago examining what he calls the "Wilson Loot Box?" His research went back to around 2006-2007 with the UEFA Champions League game introducing the Ultimate Team mode (which was basically loot boxes with player cards in them). I'm not pointing this out as a gotcha or contradiction at all, however, apologies if it comes off that way. I just found this interesting to see the connection between a Korean MMO like Maple Story having loot boxes in 2005 and a soccer game available in America introducing the same concept a year or two later. As well as the bridge between corporations eager to take advantage of people, and doing it in a region that might be seen as easy prey or easily maleable from the perspective of the CEOs in charge of those corporations. Kinda what it always seems to come down to.
    I'm not opposed to microtransations in and of themselves, even pay-to-win or pay-for-convenience types...as long as the game they're in has as many ethical balances as possible, and the devs are paying as much, if not more, attention to the free paths as the paid paths.
    Anyway, fascinating video!

      to add into your comment, actually Nexon publishes fifa in Korea, for decades I think. The mechanic has been perfected, besides to what Stella briefly mentions in the video, I recommend you dive into the History of how Riot went all in into the F2P format, there are titles in Asia that are huge and keep going with this model (for example DnFOnline) but not well known at all here in the West. I hate that everyone words it like this "take advantage of people." What does this mean? We live in the golden age of technology and information. If you want to learn quantum physics, you can google it and learn it on your own, at your own pace... Yet for some reason we have people that don't have the intelligence to realize they are being blatantly scammed by these models.
      .
      Call me an ass hole, and I'm not saying we should do this... But theoretically, if we removed disposable income from anyone under 130 IQ, there would be no more microtransactions in games. And the vast majority of scams would not exist. Because if the consumers won't buy it, it's not profitable, and therefore it will not exist. The sad truth is that it's not the corporations that are the problem, it's the consumers that allow these corporations to be profitable.
      .
      Capitalism is designed to have two opposing forces create balance. On one hand, corporations want more money. On the other, consumers want quality products at better deals. Ideally it should meet in the middle if both parties demand respect from each other. But unfortunately society is full of idiot sheep that do not demand respect. So corporations will continue to "take advantage of people" as you put it. And blaming the corporations is counter productive, because shutting down one corporation will simply open up the door for another to do the exact same thing. Until we change the real problem (idiotic consumers) nothing will change.

    You made me have some flashbacks about my maplestory life i had almost 20 years ago for the first time. I freaking loved maplestory, for way more reason than the game being good, which i thought it was, it was so addicting because the simplicity but it was done right. The one thing that made me love maplestory was the social aspect of it, i had so much fun just doing nothing more than sitting outside a place called MarketPlace with a big sign above the entrance. Here you wrote in chat, messed around with monster bags (a bag that could spawn monsters in none monster zones), met friends.
    Same with the party quest which was so meta that i believe people hardly did normal quest or grinding when party quest was available.
    About the microtransactions, i think they did it okay at start, some can debate it being pay2win with the double exp coupons they had, or scummy only renting the clothes you bought for real money (you had them for 30-90 days, then they disappeared). For me it wasn't a problem, they had to get money some way to keep servers up. but i fell in another addiction which was new for me, buying mesos (the gold in the game) . felt like a rockstar with having the one of the best items ingame, even if it was fake and bought. I was a kid and wouldn't have wanted or taken a bought victory now as an adult.

Long, RNG based grinds that can gail to reward your efforts for indeterminate periods of time can be bypassed with cash. These sorts of mechanics gaining traction in games that you can spend the restrictions away isn't a coincidence. Who gives a ish? Seriously? The entire point of playing games like this is for the grind! That's what makes it so fun! You are earning your strength through gameplay, not real world money!
    Loot based games is my favorite genre of gaming, and if I know I can pay real world money to get what I want faster, then it defeats the purpose, incentive, and motivation to play, because I CAN JUST BUY IT.
    Imagine playing the board game Monopoly, and I pay real world money to another player to get more hotels on the board, it defeats the spirit of the game in itself, just like TFD.
    In the TFD, I can buy rare materials to skip the grind. For what? To make the game easier without actually playing the game to earn that same level of power. TFD isn't an exciting game for me due to all of these systems, the devs made these systems to get people to think about paying to skip through it.
    I play every looter shooter there is and enjoyed most of them, except for the new S.S. KtJL game because I never bothered with it. If they add a character that I actually like, then maybe I'll play TFD again if anything, otherwise, the very thing that makes this game fun, is diluted in a sea of mtx.

    Focus on the drop rates and costs are nothing. They are using an algorithm to manipulate the drop rates real-time. I have proven it by running 50 runs for 5 different weapons at 2 different times. 1 was 50 runs with 0 to 2 parts already found and 50 with all parts except 1 found. Also did same test on a different account.
    Found
    1: when you are farming for a part with 0 to 2 already found, drop rate was near posted. That goes for 3rd part drop along with parts 1 and 2.
    2: the same part when it is the last part needed and the drop rate goes to less the 1%. Last part drop chance varied depending on weapon but was never the lowest and most were around 30%.
    One data set is, out of 50 runs for the Fallen Hope and its last part, I received the 3% item from amorphouos 47 times and random stuff 3 others. Final part did not drop till 73rd attempt but did not include in % after 50. Same part dropped in less then 2 runs when it wasnt the last needed for all tested items.
    Did this on Python, Divine Punishment, Fallen Hope, Blue Beetle and one other.
    For Python, I am at over 120 amorphous openings and still haven't got the 3% blueprint drop.
    Also noticed but still testing that drops have a higher chance to drop within the first 0 to 3 hours of gaming meaning after 3 hours drops decrease and some go to near zero. Most of the above tests varied in play time from 1 to 10 hours which is why I am now checking where the drop off is.
    This game is scamming people. Low drop rates boosts time in game and also pushes you to the store. If you spend 30 hours on one part, either weapon or character, you will have that in mind when you want the next and will tend to buy over grind.

    I think it's just a problem with FREE TO PLAY games in general but it's a necessary evil as they have to make money somehow not ever player will grind so it becomes a godsend/convenience to pay to progress rather than pay to win.
    With The 1st Descendant luke any F2P yeah you can't just play and progress I've picked Lepiv and I'll could just play the whole game with him but i do want to try Blair, Sharen and probably Ajax and Valby. But there each like £20 As compared to the £70-80 Ultimate versions there's no point in buying these yes the Skins are COOL AF Bunny and Lepic look amazing each for different reasons 😏 but they're simply cosmetic with some extra perks but not worth the full price of a game.
    My problems are the colours being single use as its disgusting, no eay to earn Caliber without paying real world money and the fact the company has been sued before are my issues more so than parts of the game itself I'm liking it so far though.

    I give a shit, when a game is constantly looking at my Wallet, there is a problem. Cause a game like TFD says you can't have this unless you buy it. Since there is no other way to get it. Just cause the chosen few don't care, there is a ton that actually do. A game like Warframe has a trade system so you don't need to use real money for anything in the game. Unless you really want to. But TFD has a pay wall for Skin, a Skin should never need a paywall. It changes nothing in a game, game play wise. There are games that you can buy and the game gives you skins for free. Stellar Blade is known for this and is made by a Korean Devs too. There are simple ways to make Microtransactions understandable. But not many Devs care to do that. Some of it is actually a greedy practice. It has been said for years it about Greed.

  • @gali605

    I ran out of space. As I was saying, when the gaming community, rightly or wrongly, views the developer as being greedy they review bomb the game. This greatly lowers the player base as well as the potential profit from the game. You have to stress community relations and improving the game. If you do this, the player base will become huge and it will be easy to monetize the game. Nexon should learn from DE.

To me, TFD is worth a $69.99 US price tag, as that's what it would've cost if it was sold like a stand-alone! So I paid that much for a currency bundle! Anything after that would be considered a paid dlc, which is not required to run the game! That's typical in the western and Japanese market. But it's perspective! It's like the difference between a lease vs and a purchase! No money down will get you a car, but will cost you more in the long run!

      The good news is, those types of people do not play games that don't have microtransactions in them. Because then they actually have engage with the game, rather than just throwing money at it to achieve victory.
