Tips For The Perfect Shower Bench Seat And Curb The marble for the bench seat should be fabricated and made to the right size, if it needs to be trimmed a grinder with a dry cutting blade can be used. The marble for the curb on the other hand will be of a manageable size and can be easily cut to length on a wet saw. The marble should be set on the bench so that it is slightly tilted towards the inside of the shower, so that any water that falls on the seat will flow of and towards the drain, the same goes for the marble on the shower curb, but the tilt of the curb should only be slight so that it will not interfere with the bottom of a glass door that will be installed. Use the correct type of mortar for the type of system and stone that is being used. Mortar should be applied to both the substrate and the stone to insure full support of the stone pieces.

and i love the fact that the curb and seat are done before walls, imo thats the correct way. i see it done after walls , same for shower floor tiles and you hear some say it doesnt matter what goes in first, but imo you start from the floor up, its just a cleaner look

Might be easier to put marks on the walls to position the curb.

Is there a specific notch to use with the leveling clips I prefer using half inch with any tile that I level with the clips one of my co-workers uses quarter inch and never gets no bond or coverage

Are you still using the schluter drain flange knowing they could have issues? I know a tiler that had to repair a schluter drain recently. Pebbles held water and/or was some deflection at the drain area.

Never had a problem with a schluter drain, that being said, I usually use FloFX Drains.

Hey Sal I. love your videos!! I went to a seminar yesterday from Profilitec in Batavia, NY and the guy who ran the event said he worked at Schluter for 10 years and he is a big fan of your too! Have you used any of their products? they look like they're very good. I have learned a ton from you and your videos! I install around a dozen showers a year but after installing carpet, vinyl, and pretty much any other type of flooring for the last 30 years, I think I am going to gear my energy towards shower installs full time. I make the most money and I am not crawling around a huge floor all damn day! I enjoy the traditional muddled system with the locking collar drain and liner but the guy yesterday said they are junk and steers me towards the large drain flange like Schluters. Your thoughts?? Thanks you in advance too!!

Haven't installed a vinyl liner with a two stage drain in many years. Pretty much every job I do is a bonded, or sealed, system with foam board, a mud bed and bonding flange.

Do you prefer a solid piece for the shower curb as oppose to having grout lines there?

    Another great video, thanks Sal.

I'm not sure if you have a paid class that's required to get answers to small questions. Noticing that's ALOT on CZcams. I'm a New subscriber ND New to learning to diy. So PLEASE ACCEPT MY APOLOGIES IF I NEED TO ENROLL 1ST. BUT IM JST WONDERING. 1ST ur channels has taught me SOOO much and THANK YOU for sharing you Invaluable Wisdom and experience. I was JST wondering if Your wanting to make a full steam shower room. Do you need to use the same materials on ceiling as you do the shower floors. To water proof(Materials like the Corner tape? One channel said it's expensive so JST use where necessary 🤔 also said drywall works JST as well as cement board. Know that's a huge debate. But I'm searching for that answer on it's own. Again if it's a dumb question again sorry but I'm getting the nerves to even try to do the work myself and want to be Completely Sure I'm not going to ruin the work it will take.

No need to wonder get a hold of a TCNA handbook, read method SR614, or follow manufacturer recommendations for one of their systems rated for steam showers. Laticrete Hydro Ban Board is rated for 0.5Perms, Schluter Systems works, Not all liquid applied membranes are rated for steam showers. There is a lot of bad info, and a lot of installers on YT that are showing there methods, not industry standards.

I've washed in showers where the curb was tilted the wrong way. It's the sad reality we live in where there is a lot of fake tile installers running around.
