ADVChina I met a lady online, via email we chatted for a week, then exchanged numbers and talked on the phone and set up a date, everything was kept lite, we met for dinner at a steak house nearby, the photos she had online were not current as she had gained 60 lbs, but I was nice and we had a conversation over dinner, after dinner I told her that I really had not felt a connection and I’d rather not waste her time. I need to stress that I was as polite and nice as possible.
She was a sweet person just not my type, and I don’t believe in being mean.
She sent me a good morning email and a good night email every day for a year!
I never replied to any of these daily emails,,, ever.
Yet for over 365 days she emailed me twice daily.
That’s scary.

I found some Asian girls have unrealistic hopes for people they are interested in. If you want to stop seeing someone in Asia, you better have a very stern and no turning back manners. Otherwise, some girls would have unrealistic hopes about your relationship. Don't ever say something like you would be friends!!!

I once dated a Brazilian girl for about 3 months. At least I think I did, she didn't speak English.....I didn't speak Portuguese but she turned up at my house, cooked me food had sex with me and occasionally screamed at me in Portuguese whilst throwing plates and shit around my house.

OK, I'll share one of mine, one from an older gentleman with a Chinese girl, and something I experienced in Japan.
Mine:
When I first arrived in China (before 2010) I had been talking to some Chinese girls online for a while. Getting to know the place, asking advice, learning a little Chinese via MSN messenger.
I'd grabbed one Chinese girl's phone number in the city I was working and it was close to National day holidays so after setting up my phone my company basically said "bye, see you in a couple weeks, don't die, lol". So I got to my apartment and started messaging this girl.
After a couple sms' back and forth she said she knew the neighbourhood I was in and asked me what building, apartment number I was in. She said she'd come round and help me get situated. I wanted a couple things, and buy some stuff.
An hour later she's knocking on my door. I've barely had time to have a shower after a long flight, haven't unpacked yet etc.
Well, after some slightly awkward conversation she's kissing me. After that we're having sex.
So she's now calling herself my girlfriend, and I've been in the country for like 8 hours, but, ok I guess I have a girlfriend now.
She's a nice girl, cute, happy, pretty nice all round. So I'm not unhappy about it.
But almost immediately things start kicking up red flags.
She's checking my phone when she thinks I can't see what she's doing. Asking me about where I am, and who I'm with on a constant basis. Sending me hundreds of messages a day. She's insisting on not using condoms, and once I catch her slipping by her thinking out loud that if she gets pregnant her parents will have to agree.I went out one day to meet a photography student (a guy) from the arts college near my apartment. So I asked her to let herself out of my apartment. I come home after dinner, and she's still in my apartment. Has cleaned the whole place top to bottom. And as I don't have a password on my computer she's now quizzing me rather aggressively about every single conversation I've ever had with a Chinese girl on MSN. Accusing me of fucking all of them, and accusing me of fucking some random girl while I've been out that day. Even when I show her the photos of the group I went to the opera house with doesn't convince her. There's like two girls in the group and she's asking me which one I slept with.
Needless to say, I kicked her to the curb. But her response was a simple: "No, I don't accept. YOU can't break up with me unless I agree". Whatever.
The entire thing wasn't over little more than a month.
She still sends me around a hundred angry/pleading messages until one day she says she ok. Now she's saying that she doesn't want a relationship, just casual sex, as she misses making love with me. I hold out for a bit but am weak and agree to a casual thing. Again she's insisting on not using condoms, and I have to simply block her and ignore her when she arrives at my door every other day to yell and beat on my door. Eventually my neighbour gets sick of it. And being an older lady just starts cussing out the girl every time she comes around, so she stops.
A couple months later my friend who lives in another part of the city asks me if I ever had a girlfriend called "blah blah" and I say yes. He then tells me a story about meeting her in my neighbourhood and she took him on a tour of her "beloved's" neighbourhood. Pointing out all the places we went, the places we ate, ending the tour with my apartment complex. Vowing that one day she will win me back, so she's sorry, but can't date him.
Although I've blocked her she would find local websites I would write on, forums, and deduce it was me. And start messaging me there. It lasted YEARS. Only stopped when she found out that me and my wife had had a baby.
My friend's story:
So I had an older friends years ago from America. Lovely guy, really nice guy to have a chat with over a couple beers. Classic southern gentleman type.
He was in his mid to late 50s. He got divorced, decided that as his kids were all grown that he'd retire early and travel around.
So he lands in Shenzhen. Works there for a couple months, and meets a very beautiful woman in her early 40s.
They hit it off, she speaks some English, and they go on a few dates.
After a few dates the relationship grows intimate.
Everything is going well.
They haven't discussed the future as they've been seeing each other for a couple months. Then one day she saunters into his apartment and starts discussing some random things. All of a sudden she lets it drop casually that her father has bought them an apartment.
"Why?" asks my friend in utter confusion. "For us to live in of course, after we are married" she replies.
So he's freaked out, tells her he's recently divorced, doesn't want to get married anytime soon, maybe ever.
AND SHE GOES BALLISTIC.
Punching the walls, yelling, screaming, takes his expensive laptop and hurls it out of his 25th floor window, beating him up etc. Absolute mental.
He has to restrain her, and forcibly remove her from his apartment. All the while she's screaming in Chinese and English that he took her virginity (remember she's in her early 40s) and MUST take responsibility for him.
He boots her out, she leaves after an unspecified time screaming at his door. He tries to recover from what just happened.
He doesn't hear from her for a week, life begins to settle back down. Then she turns up at his work one day, talking about making arrangements for their wedding. He reminds her that they aren't getting married, and she shows him some photos. They are of bruises on her wrists, from where he had to forcibly contain her rage and remove her from the apartment.
She gently reminds him that her father has money, works in the government, and leaves without a further word.
He immediately goes to his boss, explains the situation, and agrees to pay a decent amount to get out of his work contract and receive a letter of release.
He has another offer of a job up north in Harbin I think and avoids his apartment (which he also had to pay to get out of the lease) and stays with a friend before going up north.
Everything is going fine for a couple of months, then BAM. Out of the blue, this girl is at his work, admonishing her husband (haha) for not telling her that he went on a business trip, and that he needs to come back to Shenzhen.
Again he pays to get out of his contract and moves to Chongqing.
He meets another older Chinese woman (Chongqing women are very "high spirited") and they slowly start a relationship. My friend has learnt his lesson (although after Harbin I have no idea why he didn't just leave China) and the woman is well aware that he's not ready to get married etc. She's cool with it, and actually shes a pretty cool woman all around.
A while passes, and one day he meets his CQ girlfriend outside his work, and low and behold who should confront them on the street, why it's psycho Shenzhen girl.
Yelling at him that he's betrayed her, that if she leaves this slut, then she wont punish him.
She made a BIG mistake. Don't fuck with Chongqing people, ever. Don't call them names, don't mess with them. Old mate's new girlfriend then proceeds to absolutely destroy this chick. Taking her out, stomping her with her high heels and absolutely pummeling her into unconsciousness in the street.
The cops aren't going to take this mentally deficient mutant's side, and essentially inform her she's lucky she didn't get killed.
Happy ending, old mate from America eventually marries the CQ woman and they are still together to this day in the states.
Last story to balance out the Chinese girls.
I was living in Japan, teaching English after graduation. Had another Aussie flatmate that I was pretty close with.
We used to go surfing on the odd occasion, go out on the weekends to check out the local talent, hung out all the time.
He had this young Japanese girlfriend that was a bit weird, but mostly harmless.
He got bored of her in a couple months, and broke up with her. She didn't rage, or anything. Just quietly started stalking him.
A couple months go by, she sometimes knocks on our door, and asks if he's there. Being a mate I'm not likely to tell her that he's in his room rooting another girl, so I simply say no whenever she comes by.
One night I'm sitting at home, bored, watching some guff on tv when I decide to go to the balcony to have a smoke. Not a light decision, as it's fucking freezing outside in winter.
I light up, try to get comfy, when I notice something strange. There appears to be something hanging on the railing of the balcony. It's a pair of small, nearly blue hands.
So I rush over, and it's this chick. She's climbed the three balconies below her and is now clinging to our balcony 5 stories up.
"Is Dave here?" she quietly asks.
I pull her up and let her in. Dave is here, and he has to see this shit.
He flips out (rightfully so) and they have a very one sided shouting match about how crazy she is, and about how much she loves him, and she needed to prove to him how no other girl would do the things she's willing to do to prove her love.
That was fucking weird. We both left back home after a while, and still have a chuckle about it nearly 15 years after the fact whenever we catch up.

Both the tour ending in her beloved's neighbourhood with the vow (picturing a fist raised high) and the girl hanging from the balcony sounded like things straight out of a romantic comedy anime. I'm not sure I believe your stories, but have a thumbs up for the entertainment value. :-)
@@Gillsing Twas almost 10 years and 15 years ago. I'm sure time has embellished it to a certain degree. It's a good laugh these days, but back then I was kind of terrified she's sneak into my apartment some night and slit my throat.
I must mention too, that the mate she was doing the tour with had a couple photos of us up on the local expat site hanging out together. So I'm assuming she targeted him and took him out as some kind of plan to let me know she's still pinning away. As I had her blocked on everything.

It's not just relationships where people are weird in China. When I first moved to Nanjing in 2015 I was exploring local bars near my house with my wife. We got chatting to this Chinese dude who had lived in Australia (so spoke english which was rare for a Chinese person in Nanjing) and he seemed alright. We drank, talked business, sports, life etc. Nothing unusual so we exchanged details and said we'd grab a beer all together again.
The next day I was experiencing what I now know to be a "fake alcohol hangover" which for those who haven't experienced it is like the worst hangover you've ever had whilst being hit in the head with a pipe and losing about 40% of your vision.
I woke up about 4pm and I had about 16 wechat messages, they start off "hey how are you" "hey what are you doing today" and gradually descended into "why you not replying" "god I knew you were a douche bag" "can't believe you're ignoring me".
So I was like wtf... and just ignored the messages and descended back into my pit of fake alcohol hangover. When I reemerged the next day, I had more abusive messages "I better never fucking see you again" and missed calls, and now calls from an unknown number (not sure how he got my number).
He stopped messaging for a week, then he sent one final message "I know where you live and i'm going to rape your wife"
So I blocked him but it was pretty freaky, it was our first month in Nanjing, we were pretty worried about the landscape of people from there on!

Not an issue in the Republic of China where I lived. But is a very big issue in India and parts of Africa.
If you want to know the trick to save yourself, first methanol and isopropyl will hit much harder per drink, if you can notice it being off, then immediately find the cleanest, real ethanol alcohol you can in the area and drink it instead. Your liver will process it instead of the bad alcohol and it may save your life.
Hospitals will do the same thing with an IV.

When I lived in Tokyo in the 80's, I once had to move to get away from a girl. We met at my job, (I was a trumpet player in a jazz band) and we went out for drinks a few times and then started dating. She would show up at my house with food every morning and then it became breakfast lunch and dinner. Found out she quit her job so she could be with me 24/7. She was pathological about not letting me out of her sight. She went to visit her parents one weekend and I moved and started a new gig at a new place and begged the folks at the old place NOT to let her know where I was. She found me anyway and would be at my gig every nite and try to follow me home. My band mates were awesome in trading clothes with me and getting her to follow them. Took me almost ONE YEAR to get her to stop.... I still get the willies just thinking about her. My friends were scared she was going to turn psycho and kill me in my sleep....

I had a clingy coworker once. My boss introduced me to a girl, we'll call her Shannon, and told me I had to mentor her. Fine. I put her in front of the computer, showed her all of the systems, and explained how to close deals. Things were going alright until someone filed a grievance with HR about someone else, and so we all had to move around the office. Since Shannon was sitting with Norbert, whom I had mentored about a year earlier, everyone figured things would work out just fine. Shannon didn't take this all that well and threw an actual temper tantrum in front of the entire team. However, we were already short staffed, so they figured they'd have me and Norbert switch. However, from then on, Shannon refused to talk to anyone except me. She refused to even talk to customers, despite the fact that she was supposed to be a salesman. Shannon was eventually moved to a different part of the company, but refused to do any work there, so they fired her. She could be seen sitting in her car in the parking lot every few days around the time my team went home for the day. This went on for about a month and then she just stopped showing up altogether. To this day, Norbert refers to anyone I mentor as Shannon.

Dated a god-believer girl briefly back in high school; she seemed obsessed with me, which was rare for me. But when we ended up at her Pentecostal(?) church, they were speaking all kings of gibberish (tongues?), dancing and screaming in the aisles, all while the preacher was trying to preach, and afterward, I told her thanks but no thanks, I can't abide such odd religious practices. i had a stalker that i was unaware of for about 2 years that accumulated multiple pictures of me walking or hanging with friends all over her wall. i found out by running into an ex friend of hers at a local fast food place. she recognized me from the wall of photos. they were no longer friends because one day this girl recomended the stalker give up on me because it wasnt going to happen. on the 3rd year, this girl finally got the nerve to tell me about her crush. she got a hold of my home number and would call 5 to 8 times a day begging me to go out with her. she continued calling randomely after i got married and had kids. my mom would tell her over and over again but the stalker would ask for my new number or address. she eventually stopped but it took around 6 years. it seems so harmless when this shit happens to a dude but fuck it was so frustrating. i empathize with anybody that goes through dealing with these types of psychotic ordeals. this girl was hispanic.
I can't imagine who bad this must have been for you. That being said, and please don't misunderstand, I feel sorry for the girl. It seems like she would need some help.

@@lenitaa7938 yeah its scary. this happened about 24 years ago when the internet was in its infancy. nowadays its super easy to get peoples number and address. harassment is probably way easier to accomplish just by using google alone.

My worst girl story in short form. I was hired to be a fake boyfriend by a Chinese girl who wanted her parents to leave her alone about getting married while she finished college. She actually gave me a test to see how "clever" I was and she agreed to pay me in the form of a Hong Bao that her parents would give me as part of the Chinese New Year celebration. She picked me up for CNY and took me to her parents place where I discovered her father was a police officer. He proceeded to get me drunk with baizu and I played along, all the time she made up stories about how we met that I couldn't understand... So I nodded my head. Then her parents said they were tired and urged us to watch movies together in our room. Turns out it was a sleep over... a multi-day sleepover...
Being drunk and her being attractive did not help the situation, and of course we ended up having sex that night. When I woke up in the morning she told me how surprised she was that I would become her real boyfriend when she only hired me to be a fake one... Then it was a long drawn out process of convincing her that starting a long term relationship that was based on lying to her parents was not beneficial to her, and ultimately she came around to this idea... after I gave her back the Hong Bao. -_-

There was one experience that I still remember that was messed up. I saw someone across the apartment building who waved at me, and I waved back. When that happened he saw where I lived and knocked on the door. Stupid and naive, I answered, and he was being extra nice to me asked me to lunch or something. Thinking it was harmless, I accepted. From that point on, he stalked me, would not leave me alone, and I could not get away. When I could get away, I locked my door, and he would constantly bang on the door screaming and shouting. He also did a set up that someone broke into my place, when it was him that did it. If I tried to date, he thwarted it and embarrassed me. I literally had to meet a good guy that had a lot of friends and he, himself with his friends came up to the man, told him to leave me alone, if he didn't they would beat him up. After that he left me alone. That is what it took, I had to convince a decent guy to help me out. Later I heard the creep decided to stalk someone even younger than myself. It is creepy, but those type of people are out there, and just by being kind, they take it is a sign they can own you in their own minds. I've had some bad experiences, but that was the worst, and it got scary. Just remember, just because you ain't crazy, doesn't mean someone else isn't. Never let people manipulate you, the more naive you are, the more of a magnet you are to crazies.
I had an ex that legit stalked me.. But from what you guys said previously it's completely normal what she did in China. She always needed to know what I was doing, blew up everyone I knew on Facebook if I didn't catch her messages within 15 minutes, and even got my mom's number somehow. She was violent too. Physically and verbally, and it would come out of nowhere.
It's been 5 years and I still get freaked out thinking about it.

I had an ex boyfriend who insist he eats the last bite of my food i.e. Burger, sandwiches, BBQ and even soup. At first I thought it was just odd then after a while, it got irritating. The last thing he did was the one that made me decide to leave him. One time, we went to a resort and rented a room. I used the free toothbrush provided by the hotel after lunch. I have had 5 experiences along the lines of as C-milk's story. These women have a whole narrative built. All you have to do is be nice or smile at them. Suddenly they built an entire story line to that every day thing you did. They are not attracted to you. You should not feel flattered and would probably be embarrassed at minimum and terrified at worst if they described their narrative.They are attracted to the imagined version of you they have created. It's really disturbing. All nationalities have women like this. The best thing you can do for them is get them a therapist. They don't even realize they have deluded themselves and are not attracted to you but what they imagine you to be. You could be a cardboard cut out for as much as you are involved in their narrative.
That's a very wise comment. Mental illness and neurotic behavior that doesn't quite cross the threshold into diagnosable mental illness are universal. These dysfunctions can take different forms and manifest with slightly different symptoms according to the cultural context. But the human problem of having an unrealistic narrative or a fantasy projection of an alternative reality for one to use as an escape from the realities of actual experienced life does seem to be universal, and stories of encounters with persons suffering from this will be quite the same across cultures.
Men can be this way too. My oldest daughters 1st husband was jealous of her book she was reading. That marriage didn't last I'm glad to say. Yes he did other awful things, not just jealousy.

@@sherkaaaciii7462 There wasn't really anything truly remarkable about the video. A traffic holdup was probably about the only thing that happened and it wasn't that interesting. The flow of the conversation kept getting interrupted, only to comment on seemingly inconsequential things. It's like they are trying to extend the video time to barely cross the 10 minute mark.

I once dated a girl from Moldova/Romania (She would always say Romania but her family would say Moldova for some reason) years ago, who moved to the UK, and she was very clingy and would always assume I was cheating on her if I didn't message her like every few hours, and would always smell me and say she could smell another girl's perfume. We were both working part time, and I was 20, she was 18, and she'd always ask me to foot the bill on dates, her train tickets to see me in the next city over, buy her gifts etc. and was adamant even though she earned her own wage, and said that its the norm in her culture that the man takes care of everything; compared to the norm in western culture where guys and girls tend to split stuff more often, especially after being together for like a year. I wouldn't have minded as much if she didn't act so entitled and like she was the best thing that happen to me, but in the end she said her mother needed money for the house they were renting and all living in, (she asked for about $200 like 3 times I think), which she lied about and used to buy clothes it turned out, then she emotionally manipulated young-dumb me into giving her about a thousand dollars, (yeaaah I was pretty naive), and when I talked to her family about the money I'd 'lent' them, they were like 'you didn't lend us anything or help us even though you're a wealthy English person!' and they all ganged up on me and said they'd tell the police I was being agressive to their daughter and said I was an idiot for giving their daughter money in the first place (which they were right about I guess). Although I don't like to hold any prejudice, I did get the vibe that she and her family had the idea that most people living in the UK were well off (I certainly wasnt), and that it was justifiable for them to take what they could from me as they assumed themselves as being less fortunate and poor in comparison, or maybe as they were from a poorer, post Soviet country, they had the 'take what you can' mentality that many older Chinese people have? Anyway, that was my crazy foreign gf story! Thanks for listening, and feel free to tell me what a pushover I was! ;p
While totally lame and wrong, hopefully she was hot but also think of it this way. even being poor in the UK you were able take make more money at 20 than they could probably imagine. Still she matches my own anecdotal evidence of eastern European princesses. Still i have a weird respect for these ladies that can get buy on looks or whatever and freeload their lives. They typically start as au-pair, but their real target is to stay there. They are lured by wealthy life and want to catch some western guy. Just now the situation is more quiet as the african immigration to west Europe made those countries slightly less attractive and the Czech republic became quite a succesfull factory of the German industry and salaries grow here right now.

I've dated a few Chinese girls, which include the best and worst people I've dated. Something that I've deduced is that, no matter how nice or insane the girl is, Chinese girls don't ever do anything for the fun of it. Everything is a calculated plan on the path of getting married. Fun dates, sex, road trips, jokes, giggles. It's never genuine. They do these things because they have deduced that you want them to, so they trade this in exchange for the one thing in their mind: an exclusive and visible relationship.
This has destroyed every relationship I've ever with a chinese girl. Not because I have a problem with relationships, but because I don't jump into rushed commitments, especially when I don't know yet what is fake and what isn't.

And it was like that in the former "West Germany" outside of the cites. It was hard for a US soldier to date a German girlfriend casually, but if you did date at all, her parents were expecting you to marry her and take her back to the United States with you. Of course now, the in-laws have a legit reason to go overseas to the US.
This mischagos was happening to me in the late 1970's. It always seemed like their parochial attitudes were stuck in the 1950's, which was twenty years back, then. The women in their twenties were a little more "liberated" than that; they knew casual sex did not equal impending marriage, but their parents did not!

I loved revisiting that spectacular route with you. It's true the cyclists are a bit mad, but cycling is huge in Taiwan and all serious cyclists aspire to climbing up and over Wuling 武陵 at least once. And it's equally stunning approached from the east through Taroko Gorge or the west from Puli (as you did here).
Well, it's certainly not "equally stunning". It's double in difficulty, and 10x more stunning ascending from the east side.

As an American woman I have a crazy story about an American man who got super possessive just because I had lunch with him. One time. And then he wanted to act like he was my boyfriend. I knew this one lady at the restaurant I go to who was so clingy and it did not take long for her to get that way with me. When I entered the restaurant each Sunday she would approach me an give me a big hug and kiss and when I sat down she would come to my table and rub my neck and back in front of the other customers. In a way I was glad when she had to leave and go back to her country because she was just too clingy.

I had the same, in Shanghai, I would go out after work for drinks, and my ex would call me every 30 minutes, in tears, asking me to come home! I've had a somewhat similar experience. My employer imports goods from China. A couple of years our suppliers came to Moscow for a recreational trip. They had a young girl, a manager of sorts, who also acted as a translator. So I showed them around for a couple of days and then sent them off to St Petersburg for the next leg of their itinerary. The girl had my number. She started writing to me and calling me everyday, even though she was married and so was I. At first I tried not to be rude and talked to her but then I realized that it was getting out of hand, when she started sending me her pictures, asking me for mine, telling me that she talks about me with her friends, writing early in the morning, wishing me good morning and late at night wishing me good night. I had to talk to her, explaining that : a. I was happily married and did not this in my life and b. She herself was married. Fortunately, she took the hint and went the way of the dodo.
Should have had some fun and then left it. Or maybe tried to introduce her to your wife...
