Dodging wind, rain and big female bronzies - even a windy day can produce a fun day on the water.

  • With a 25-30knt onshore wind showing on the map, Stevo and I still wanted to get a line wet so we launched the little Osprey in the safety of the Harbour. The plan was to head up into the shallows of the Harbour to a 5mtr hole that would be protected form the strong winds forecasted, we just didn't predict that the big angry female bronzies would also join us.
It was just going to be a good ole bait'n berley bash which started off as planed. After dropping our berley we started to pick up a few fish and soon it was all on. after awhile I caught a huge splash 5-600mtrs away out of the corner of my eye, then focusing my attention where I had seen it I saw a shark jump a couple of times (signature to a big bronzie). A few more fish was boated then the next 2 we hooked we had our line peeling a great speed of knots, looked like the shark I had seen turned up in our berley trail.
This time of year the Harbour fills up with big angry females that have made it there home while they have their babies. There was defiantly more than one swimming around our boat that's for sure. We had them following our fish as we frantically wound them in sometimes even skipping across the top of the water like a stone being skipped across the water. After awhile we started losing good fish to them. We up anchored under heated breath having to move from our spot that was producing the goods for us and moved further up the Harbour in hope to escape their wrath.
Dropping the pick and berley once again, we started flicking our bait's out into this time a little 3mtr channel. There was a heap of fish here as well but lots of small stuff with the odd goodie in between. We managed a few more fish for the bin before the tax man turned up once again. Not wanting to kill anymore fish and a few decent snaps and trev's in the bin already from the hectic couple hours of fishing we already had we called it a day.
It was a quick one on the water for us but there was so much fish in the Harbour it didn't really matter. We had fish hitting our bait's none stop throughout the hole time we were fishing - we had pleased our fishing fix for the morning.
    Tight lines

I really need to sort them out for you guys, the hoodies are quite expensive so was just going to run T's first but when I get my A into G there is no problem changing it up to a hoodie.
When I got them done they were $90 about 9/10mnths ago (hopefully he stills does them) the hoodies are pretty good quality though.
Will try put it out there (unsure how to) to see who's keen.

      Hi NT
The best is unweighted - floating baits when you can get away with it and then just add enough weight as needed. The more weight you have the more chance you have of getting snagged up. I normally just run about a meter/meter and a half of 25/30lb fluorocarbon trace which is tied to the main line via a back to back uni-knot. Sometimes using a swivel can also cause snags.
