    Grew up over the other side, caught a load of awesome fish in the shallows off Herne Bay and either side of Rats. Great memories

      @@Reel-Kiwi-Fishing Have you ever tried the Manukau Harbour? I grew up around Mangere Bridge around the 70's-90's and did the bridge, foreshores etc..Am based in Sydney now since 95 and always watch the tube for content like yours which always makes me home sick. Cheers for sharing too.

      @@cococharliematenga4829 use to do a little in the boat more up at Cornwallis - but spent my child hood out on the West coast a lot. Slept out at Whatipu / Kare kare so many times as a kid and remember when I was about 10 sleeping on the 9pin rock out at Whatipu so we could fish those magic hours.

      and the reel is the Penn 12 Torque - nice little combo and the rod isn't to bad for the price :-)

      I use to fish it with my dad back in the late 70's from the left side bank - lots of mussels but strong current. Use to walk down there from Balmain Rd (Kauri point domain) - it is a hard place to fish due to the current - even spent a few nights down there - use to catch them off the left side of the beach low tide at dark but haven't been there for years now.

      @@Reel-Kiwi-Fishing Thank you. Because another keen fisherman advised to go there 2.5 hours before low tide and fish there for another 2.5 hours and come back before getting cut off.

      Very nice reels the Penn gold Torques - this is a little 12 Torque star drag, use to have the 15 but went smaller - love the small reels....Running it on a 6'6 Penn rod (can't remember the model) as haven't used it for awhile - fishing with Okuma at the moment...

      Hi JG - I've been fishing all my life (40yrs plus) started as a kid with the old man - I guess you can say it's just experience. The more you do the better you become at it like most sports / hobbies - 95% of the time we will catch fish, but most times because I have the love for fishing we are out all day so gives us a good chance of catching and finding new spots. If we only go for a few hours we know where to go at that time of the tide and day. 90% of my spots aren't random - they are spots that produce and have learn't over time when they will.
      I have incoming and out going spots - I have sat on an incoming spot on the last hour of the outgoing with not one bite, then once the boat turns around showing the tide has turned to come in the odd bite starts then 10-15mins in it's all go. Not all spots are like this but once you figure them out it's pretty hard to come home with nothing.
      Like most fisho's we have that odd day that's hard and may only come home with 3-4 fish but vary rarely - I like fishing those colder months, I find Late Dec - early Feb can be hard to fish sometimes with lots of small fish about and a lot more boat noise. Spring and Autumn I love as the better fish are around.
      I never use my sounder to find fish only to find structure - my early years in the small 12ft tin I didn't even have one it was just lining up trees and houses, getting to learn about where structure may sit and currents etc. I have always been a smelly bait fisherman and still think bait fishing is the way to go if you want to catch fish easy - I love a bit of jigging, live-baiting and softbaiting etc when the time is right and will produce.
      Just keep at it, try new things

    Funny how he says roughly 40 cm um I think your suppose to measure it anyway before you icky them

    • @Reel-Kiwi-Fishing
      @Reel-Kiwi-Fishing  Před 5 lety +4

      If you think you have to measure a fish to reach 30cm throw it back - only time I measure a fish is when they are over 10lb - on my boat we have a rule anything under 35 goes back anything over 10lb goes back unless the guys want to smoke one or if they catch their PB. After 40yrs plus of fishing you get to pretty much know what is over 35cm, if I was to measure the fish I would be hoping it would make 30cm but I choose not to take such small fish.
