The Aqua Terra was mentioned last, perhaps because she saved the best for last. There is literally an Aqua Terra model for every single human being on the planet, as the Aqua Terra collection is gigantic with more than 130 variations. The model line has at least five case sizes, countless dial colors and textures, different materials including steel, titanium, ceramic, and gold, multiple different types of complications, and endless combinations of steel bracelets, rubber straps, leather, NATO, etc. They could probably discontinue half the Aqua Terra models in their current catalog (and they probably should) and the Aqua Terra would still be the most versatile luxury watch collection on the planet.

I own quite a few watches. I would definitely call myself a watch enthusiast. But somehow I find myself wearing Casio most often... and you know guys? There's nothing wrong with that. One gotta ask himself: why do I collect watches? What's the point of this? Is it a form of investment? Am I going to impress my friends or coworkers? Would I feel out of place patting other executives on the back if I didn't wear Rolex? Literally none of this matters. Collect for yourself, wear for yourself, be honest with yourself, it's your hobby!

My “one watch” was a steel Date Just for years (if you don’t count my gshocks and apple watch).
It was a gift, but if I was buying a one watch watch, it would be the Santos Dumont. Mostly because of the bracelet has a quick change mechanism. And you can wear the steel bracelet, leather, or the rubber.
I have two Santos watches, and I wear them all the time . I often choose them over my Rolex, RM, and APs. I really think it’s an underrated watch

As far as Seiko is concerned I'd rather recommend the Presage sharp edge over the cocktail times. They've got sapphire crystals. If you only have one watch, you'll want it to stay nice for as long as you can. Of course it also applies to the Alpinist. Of course you shouldn't have OCD with the latter. The compass bezel getting out of line drove me mad which is why I sold mine.

I now own eight watches unless I’ve forgotten some. Not one cost me over US$300 and most were nearer $120.
I find myself wearing the same one for months on end. One of the watches is broken, three are radio-controlled Citizen watches (one of which I wore constantly for nearly a decade) that don’t always receive the WWVB time signal broadcast here in south Florida, one is a big clunky Citizen Satellite Wave that listens to GPS satellites but has a cluttered dial that’s hard to read sometimes.
Of the rest, I wear a 32mm titanium Certina with a thermocompensated quartz movement good to about 10 seconds a year. Comfortable, so easy to read, and light, just a tad too small (and it’s meant for women so I suppose I’m a transvestite).
Really all I need is the Certina and one of the Citizen watches as backup if the battery needs changing. I should sell or give away the rest. They’re all quartz (my automatic Omega Seamaster was stolen years ago) and effectively worthless, but I’m sure a charity shop could get $10 or so for any of them. Maybe the Satellite Wave could fetch a couple hundred on eBay but it’s weird enough to keep.

  • @londoncallingwithsimon6817

Good call on the presage cocktails. I have the green and the blue. The one big fail which holds me back from recommending as a daily driver is the scratch magnet hardlex crystal. I added the blue sharp edge which is much more suitable for daily wear. I’m strongly considering the baby blue alpinist for daily wear too. Really enjoy your channel. Good luck with the baby.

I've still got the watch goggles on and keep buying a few randoms here and there, but now I find myself selling the ones I never wear. I'm willing to bet that in a year my collection will be down to just 2 or 3. I find myself wearing my dressier watch for some occasions and I'm in love with my Seiko SSC911 Panda. First of all, warmest congratulations to you and WatchPapi on the birth of your little one! Regarding the topic of this video, as of today the watch that can suit everybody's needs as only watch IMHO is the new Longines Conquest: 3 different sizes, 2 strap choices, modern and reliable movements, 100m water resistance with screw-down crown for a reasonable price (2k€ in Europe). Compared to the Tudor, it lacks COSC certification and micro adjustment on the clasp but for half the price it's an absolute bargain, even considering that quality is as good as the Black Bay. Ok, It's true that Conquests are "inspired" by Seamaster shades but for a normal person (NOT a watch maniac as gringa community) this is not material at all.

Glad to get some confirmation bias on the Omega Aqua Terra. I just picked up the 41mm with a green dial back in March. I was shopping at a boutique in the US. I asked about the price and a possible discount, they told me they couldn’t do that on a newer model, which the green was apparently. They offered me a free nato, which I wasn’t interested in. I asked if they could do a leather strap, which they agreed to.
I was pretty happy with this, as I was planning to buy a leather strap for it anyways. They were able to get me a dark brown alligator strap with the gold over clasp. I couldn’t find this exact combo online, however per the invoice it was $850, which seems ridiculous, the one I was planning on purchasing was $550 online? Anyways, I figured that’s in the ~10% range and I was happy with it.
I doubt I’ll ever purchase a true dress watch and felt this was a step up from my BB58, which just never felt right under a suit.
Anyways, great video as always! Best of luck with the new baby!

A Seiko Presage Cocktail Time in blue was a near daily for a while pre-pandemic. It is one of the few watches and one of the two cheapest (the other being a Mr Jones Watch) that a non-watch person has complimented me on. At its size, it's not quite a dress watch, the same way a navy blazer isn't a suit. But like said blazer, it'll look sharper and more put together than most other options and won't look out of place in any context short of strict black tie or formal dress codes.

My first ever watch, very luckily, was the sbga 443 Grand seiko Shunbun I got on my trip to Japan a couple years ago. It was also my only watch for a while. I loved it. If I wanted it to be dressy, I put on an alligator strap. If I wanted sporty, back to the original bracelet.

Only thing that interests me in this collection is the Santos. Speedy and Daytona are just too "must have for a collection" and I'm basing this on having owned a Speedmaster and flipped it within 6 months. I truly dislike almost all BB's but own a blue Pelagos. It is a nicely rounded out collection but not for me.

Got a new Navitimer GMT 42. The blue dial color is special and the design stands out. There was no way to get a discount, only got a free leather strap.

SBGX263. Bought in Japan and haven't regretted it for 1 minute. First luxury watch. Visited all the stores and brands and didn't get the same feeling except I loved Santos also!

I would argue that most people don't need a watch at all, but if there was an "only watch you need" it'd probably be like a Casio or something

Wore a 2015 Tudor Black Bay "black rose ETA smiley dial" for eight years. Sold that last year. Since then, bought 5 new watches.
Sometimes, I ask myself, why did I do that? Occasionally, I miss the original 2 watch collection of the BB and my trusty DW5600.

The Cartier Santos models are a great alternative if you can't be arsed to play the AD game with Rolex etc., or may be looking for something more elegant in general.

I had a Santos for 7 years. After recovering from cancer (8 years ago) I traded my Santos (which I very much miss) for a Blancpain Lemon 50 Fathoms rose gold in celebration of no cancer. Last year I added a Breitling Ocean with an orange face, which wear daily (I like orange). I'd like to add one more watch, a Santos Small Quartz Rose Gold. Quartz because my Blancpain and Breitling are very inaccurate and I'd like a watch I don't have to reset weekly. Classic first world problem.

I think the OP is a great watch, especially in the green or celebration dials - something informal and cool about it. Does not take itself too seriously

Two weeks ago, I went into my local AD inquiring on a 41mm Aqua Terra. At the end, I asked if the price was set in stone. The rep stated he could do no tax which in my province of Canada is 13% which equalled to just over $1100. Discounts are out there. You just gotta ask. Worst they can say is no.
