    I might be subjective as I am a Nomos’ owner myself and I really love it (blue gold 35 mil), but Nomos is the most underrated brand, as it does on the territory $2-5K of tinkering with off-the shelf ETAs/Celitas, what other brands used to do in $5K+ segment - all-around in-house (~95%) with the own swing system, top-tier accuracy (mine is -2/+0), finishing quality.
    In this particular case, even if someone doesn’t like how the 33 mil sounds in the context, why don’t we assemble the line of 35, 38.5 and 41 mil watches from Nomos.
    I can’t express enough respect and appreciation to Nomos.

      Even better, a gently used year old model is going to drop 25-40% of it's MSRP. They are absolutely worth the full retail asking price, but I'm looking to take advantage of the quick depreciation to get a blue Zurich world timer eventually.

    • @dim31rus
      @dim31rus Před 16 dny

      @@BM-si2ei yeah, that’s a kind of a game that Nomos admittedly is not good at. Not an investment tool. There is no explicit reasoning to me behind it, honestly, but I was never interested of doing it, so I just might not know what are those factors affecting investing reputation. On a flip side someone who doesn’t mind second-hand can simply take an advantage of this side of brand’s perception.

    I was on the 38mm hype train for years then out of nowhere I bought a Panerai 233 with the 1950 44mm case and it completely re-wired my brain on watch size. Now I go into boutiques and so many more watches are 'doable'. Even my 42mm Panerai looks small.
    I know you were not considering micro brands but I think one of the best examples of not only any size but also a variety of materials all on the same model of watch is the Helson Shark Diver; 38, 40, 42, 45 steel, brass, bronze, titanium and for a while they had a carbon case.

    After I found 38mm (on my Seiko baby alpinist), I can no longer wear my larger watches that I was happy with for years. They seem huge now.
    I have subsequently bought two SRPK models (teal and cream) both reinforcing that 38mm is perfect on my 6 1/2 inch wrist.
    Wish I discovered this earlier, would have saved some bucks.

    I have two Nomos Tangentes of different sizes (and colors). The long lugs and lack of bezel on the Tangente, Orion, and Ludwig make the watches look considerably larger than sports watches and even most dress watches. The effect is amplified with the white opaline dials. The 35 mm watches wear like a modern dress watch while the 38 mm watches wear like a sports watch.

    Size preference depends on the type of watch for me. For time only or time and date watches, I actually prefer watches in the 36-38mm range. Even though 36mm isn't a contemporary size, and probably never will be again, I have no regrets about buying my Datejust in 36mm. It wears well on my 6.12" wrist.

    Loved it when Omega offered the goldeneye era seamaster 300m professional in a midsize version. The only complaint I had was that it deleted the 3 o’clock index marker next to the date window because it had less real estate on the dial to work with. It was the only tip off that it was the smaller version

    It's also interesting how even if both a 35mm and a 40mm diameter watch fit the same wrist, due to differences in proportions and design and whatnot, the 40mm will always look more bold and the 35 probably more classy. While diameter is far from everything when it comes to fit on the wrist, it's really important to how a watch fits your taste and what you're going for in style

    How much of a faux pas is it to wear a watch that’s obviously too large for one’s wrist? I’ve got a IWC hand wound moonphase that’s bigger than a 44mm Panerai; coming in at 45mm. Obviously not many can pull it off. It’s an homage to pocket watches and thus the over large size. But I just love its design with the moonphase and power reserve indicator
