    Like someone else already stated, you saved me from ruining my lower unit during my water pump install. That hidden bolt at the rear underneath got me. In the other 3 videos that bolt was never mentioned.

    You don't know who did the reman. Might have been a guy watching a CZcams tutorial or marine mechanic with 30 years experience. You put it on the water and worry if it was done right. If not put together correctly, then you are now back to having a boat anchor. An extra $300 you get enough of a warranty that you will test on the water this Summer. Worth it to me.

    You saved me on that hidden bolt on the underside. Watched a great video on how to do impeller maintenance, but they skipped that bolt. Hammered the heck out of my lower unit and was questioning my life choices until i found your video.

    i just got into boating this year too. first boat i got was a larson cuddy camper style boat. didnt care for it. selling it now. never had it on the water. then i decided to spend money on a 96 crownline 202br with an LS1 motor in it. boats sick. but as you said, boat has a meaning. coupler splines stripped so a shop will do this over the winter while changing my gear ratio out. just sad i wont be on the water anymore this year. ive the same lower unit as yours. id reman it, its under warranty and nothing much else to worry about in terms of if your diy was done right giving you anxiety trying it out lol.

      Oh I remember being a little tense the first time I threw it into gear after putting it together. Guy can't give up, if you can't work on it yourself it quickly becomes to expensive. Thanks for watching.

    To do it properly you would have to buy 100s in special tools. Pinion height and backlash specs minimum. Then bearing drivers, the spanner nut tools etc. and if it goes south your out the parts cost.

      Yep, quite a project if you did it all 100%. You can see how I ended up at the bolt it on hope it works method. So far so good. A guy went down a serious research rabbit hole learning about it. So many tools you would need. Thank for watching, much appreciated.

    We have used the SEI aftermarket for quit a few years now and have had very good luck with them. We had one problem that I can remember and there was no questions asked. The complete lower with water pump costs less than a new bare housing that you must have the correct tools to disassemble and shim it. Yes I know some people got lucky and it has been working fine without reshimming so they say. The only draw back is until it gets broken in it will have some noise because they don't lap in the gears like OEM does and there is a specific break in procedure that I would suggest following. When they first came out they swore they where made in the USA but I don't know about now.

      I researched options and the salvaged lower unit was the cheapest option. Risky as the condition was unknown but new aftermarket replacements were hard to justify because of what the whole boat is worth. I learned first hand that boating is pricey haha. That's for watching and taking the time to write a great comment.

    I gotta go with the Re-Man! There are too many manufacturing questions with Chinesium stuff. Cheaper materials, unskilled labor, etc. Hopefully the re-man will be built by local craftsmen! Good luck!

      I certainly do prefer to spend money with a local business than manufactured garbage.

    4th option, buy a non running parts boat that has no paper work for cheap. But I'm crazy like that lol

    I think I would go with the remanufactured one. Unless you knew more about the aftermarket. Hard to compare to OEM components. I like your videos. You're very relatable to a average blue collar guy like myself. Your editing keeps getting better and better. Top notch stuff.

    Reman is best man. Make sure it includes the fin and plug.

    • @sprucestomper
      @sprucestomper  Před rokem

      I never even noticed that the fin was missing when I bought the boat.

    I’d say the $1400 used option. It’s been proven to work on a boat (vs on a test stand). Not much that can go wrong with those components, and as smooth and easily as your turns, you could easily feel anything wrong with the used unit.

      Im still on the hunt to make sure I get the best option, we shall see.

    man this sucks but as they say if you're not breaking stuff you ain't having fun, also I'd go with the new parts from Quebec because its less risk
