  • Here I replace the trim sender and trim limit switches on my 2006 Crownline with a Mercruiser Alpha One Gen 2 stern drive. I use a sierra brand replacement. For this method the lower unit does not need to be pulled off.

Thanks for the comment! Good luck with your trim gauge. I definitely missed mine when it stopped working!

We did your method today. The only issue we ran into was getting that bolt back in! 😢

Yeah, that bolt is a stinker for sure! I hope you eventually got it. It’s really an exercise in patience!

I avoid seara brand and never use the water pump impeller, it's junk.
    Thank you for the video.

Thanks for sharing. In this case Sierra wasn’t impressive…

Man, got everything except that damn bolt back in! The starboard bolt on the top steering bearing is in the way of the socket lining up. Will keep perservering, gave up after 45min last night due to lack of light, trying again today with better light and clearer mind. Up trim now working with the new limit sender, though trim gauge I now suspect faulty as operation hasn't changed 😢 (guage only moves about 1 tenth travel from down then flicks to full up)

And just like that, 5 minutes later the thread started. I found the wires have to be coming out the sides, pull the trim limit wire (sender unmounted) up and over the port steering bolt, get good light in there, get the bolt into the bracket and hole (that tape idea is brilliant) then slide a flat long screwdriver in above the bell housing and push on the socket as you gently turn. Perfect now!

Hey- I’m glad to hear you got that bolt in! It’s no treat, but as you proved, it’s doable. Hopefully you get the gauge figured out. I’d just check the internals of the trim sender unit. My Sierra brand one was broken when I got it, so it wasn’t sending a good portion to the gauge. I ended up using the old mercruiser internals. Thanks for watching, my friend! I always feel a connection with folks that take on this project!

@@NashwaukSteveI pulled the old sender apart and it was OK, tested it at the gauge directly and same result. New eBay cheapie gauge arrived and fitted and now working perfectly. Was $180 for a genuine gauge, $30 for eBay cheapie. Doesn't quite look the same but will do for now! So much more confident now I know where the motor is sitting. Next job is a transom mounted tilt switch...
