    Bought it in 2021, still not ready for prime time. Works great when its working but every few weeks (2-4 weeks) Alexa stop responding then needed to remove the Onelink app, reset to factory and reinstall all over.

    One of the best automations is when it detects smoke you can set it to turn on all your other homekit lights. So if it goes off at night all your lights turn on, kinda cool so you can see right away

    As mentioned by others, review does not discuss the actual smoke and CO detection.
    Humorously, reviewed states the test button is the most important feature. Umm, no the smoke and CO detector are actually the most important features.

  • @jameslucas877
    @jameslucas877 Před rokem

    We own one and the 10 year battery went out. It was particularly hard to even get the unit down. The trick is to rotate it as far as you can, then push it down a little still which gets it past the locking device so you can just pull it from the harness. Who designs something for 200 dollars that just goes out after ten years. It is not made to be taken apart if you look at the disassembly instructions online

    • @TheBinaryApe
      @TheBinaryApe Před rokem +1

      That is because it has carbon monoxide detector in it and those are chemical base. Once they expire you have to replace the device by design.

    Does this work on a battery?

  • @Zomfoo
    @Zomfoo Před 3 lety +2

    Three things prevent me from buying this:
    1) It’s too thick. The more flush it is the less visible it is.
    2) It’s square. This means you have to fiddle with it to line it up relative to the room, like straightening a picture on a wall, only with the mounting bracket complicating the effort.
    3) The notch for the logo gives it a direction. For consistency’s sake I have to insure all notches are in the same direction.
    C’mon OneLink and Nest, make your units circular!

      AppleInsider nice! Could you upload a few examples of copyright free songs/audio coming out of the speaker? I use an Airport Express with PC speakers to play lullabies in my daughter’s room. I also use an intercom app on the App Store to send messages to different rooms. It’d be neat if you could test that too - the human voice over the speaker.

    Do Americans connect their smoke alarms to the house's electricity?

    • @AppleInsider
      @AppleInsider  Před 6 lety +2

      Many are hardwired and can have a battery backup. That way they always have power, but if the power goes out they still function. More reliable, longer lasting than just batteries.

    • @jonathonkarrels1985

    Cool but $250 cool? Idk

    • @AppleInsider
      @AppleInsider  Před 6 lety +1

      I think that is pretty cheap honestly... look at any AirPlay speaker. They are usually at least $199. Then look at any “smart” smoke detector. Nest protect is $120, so is the other First Alert model. So you can take that, add CO sensor, homekit support, Alexa assistant, and a Wi-Fi speaker. For a solid speaker alone, $250 isn’t bad. Add everything else and it seems pretty reasonable.

      True enough I suppose, but with the fact that you typically have more than one smoke detector in your house, the cost for these would add up quickly. I like the tech a lot, I have Echo Dots throughout the house and would love these to replace those as well as my smoke detectors. But I have six detectors...$1500.00, so at this point...nope. I do appreciate you making this video however. Thanks.
