    What a truly helpful review. I was just thinking to myself that it’s rare to see a review of just one HK product that ends up not recommending it. Your review methodology was critical as well. Pushing your situation to a near real scenario show a critical flaw. Thanks, Shane.

    Wow, I can almost get the interlinking issues with older devices, but to fail to push a notification is a major defect, and main reason why any of us would spend the extra money to purchase one of these. Thanks for the extra smoke testing. I'll hold off until they have time to resolve this bug.

    Any updates on the push notification issue?
    For others who are looking for a Smart Smoke detector that works for HomeKit
    I have tried two of them and with a couple of tests, they work well for me.
    1- The first one is the Mijia Honeywell Smoke Detector which works with the Aqara hub.
    2- The second one is the google nest protect (with homebridge).

    • @ShaneCreates
      @ShaneCreates  Před 3 lety +4

      No updates, but I haven't tried it in over a year. Thanks for sharing! Unfortunately, the Mijia smoke detector probably doesn't pass code here in the US since there is no wired option and the google nest obviously isn't native to homekit. I sure hope we see some more options in the near future for more smoke detectors with homekit support.

    I’ve had this for a few years and had a second false alarm. I have no idea what triggered it. The first false alarm was in the middle of the night when everyone was sleeping. The one from today was during the day, my wife was home and I didn’t get a push notification either time. My wife called me and put the phone down while trying to get the dogs out of the house and I made an illegal U-turn to get back home … all for nothing. I’m glad I didn’t call 911 (but in retrospect, I should have. I’ll look into ways of having Alexa alert me if she hears the alarms and replace this piece of crap.

    4/29/23 Most important and helpful information was at the end of the video. I can confirm the push notifications do not work for the OneLink app. Additionaly, it seems you need a Homelink hub, family sharing turned on for IOS devices, etc. to add a family memeber so they will also receive notificaitons. This is a moot point since the push notifications with the OneLink app do not work. Emails to Onelink support are assigned a caase number, then you will receive an email about a week later instructing yo uto go to their on-line help page. Many others have reported the same. Don't waste your money and time on theis product

    I recently bought a house that came with a bunch of HK smart tech including these smoke detectors. Setup was quick and easy. I thought everything was fine. But today, I got my first false alarm (not to mention a super late push/homekit notification). No smoke, no one cooking, just seemingly random. I was able to silence it after a few tries in the app while running around the house to confirm there was no fire. It went off again a few hours later but this time the app didn't even record the alarm. I believe I saw on some forum that the sensor may collect dust and, depending on humidity, could trigger a false fire alarm. So i guess i'll be getting some compressed air to try and clean things off...

I do a Wordpress blog that's all about HomeKit, and as well as news, product reviews & listings, as well as 'How to' articles, I also feature my own and 3rd party videos from CZcams - with the creators' permission of course. I wanted to ask if you were ok with me posting your HomeKit videos? Basically, I just embed them in an article, so any views the videos get, go straight to your numbers. I also make sure that your name or channel name is credited in the article, so they know who produced it. Viewers can also simply click on the CZcams logo as well if they want to view it directly in CZcams. If you have any affiliate links for the products you review, then I'll happily include those in the post too, so you get direct benefits. Let me know if you'd like to go for it, but if you're not keen, then that's fine - I always prefer to ask, currently there are around 10 different 'CZcamsrs' who allow me to share their videos and it's helped with views and subscribers a lot.
