@Emin Karic He wasn't really a villain in Thor 1. He was a kid who was jealous of his brother for being favored by their father. By Avengers 1 he was a villain (due to Thanos and some mind stone action), but by The Dark World he was back to being the brother who doesn't know how to express himself because of Odin's...interesting parenting techniques.

Good actors often have a lot of fun with evil roles, and do well at it.

I mean, it's not even good. This is a bad scene in a bad film. And the actors, Tom included, appear to be mostly phoning it in. Thousands of actors could have done a better job. Tom himself could have done a better job.

    • @danguee1

If anything, Hiddlestone was probably prevented from a more nuanced, complex delivery by the ham-fisted script in the hands of a ham-fisted director.

I love this scene and I so wish this kinda stuff was used more often. Black Widows real power lies in her ability to use her appearance to her advantage. You see a sexy woman tied up in an abandoned building so you don’t see a skilled interrogator stroking a man’s ego into revealing the truth, you see a woman pleading with a villain for her friend so you don’t see subtle manipulations feeling out different tactics, you see a woman in a skin tight leather suit so you don’t see the gun in your face. Natasha knows people will see her in a certain light and if they are foolish enough to do so she will make them regret that for the rest of their lives and I lover her for it.

This is just good storytelling. In Natasha’s first scene in the movie, she’s being tortured for information. Her captors clearly have the upper hand, and they gloat over her. Then S.H.I.E.L.D. calls. She is impatient with the phone call, and says, “I’m right in the middle of an interrogation; this moron is giving me everything.”. Then she escapes easily.
That scene perfectly mirrored her scene here. She got alone with Loki, put on the appearance of being vulnerable, made Loki feel in control, and took everything she wanted from him.
The genius of the Avengers was in their diversity of different kinds of strength. Only Black Widow could have done this.

This beautifully establishes Loki's nature, and indirectly also that of Bruce Banner: Natasha manipulates Loki's pride and his desperate need to be seen as smarter, better, sharper than anyone else. Yet earlier in the movie, she fails when manipulating Bruce Banner. He saw right through her when she played the innocent, sweet woman in order to bring him in. This shows both how much Loki's pride and desires control him and how impressive Bruce Banner is.
