A problem that results from having multiple writers, producers, and directors having their own time with the character in whatever current project they're working on. The best Strange we have gotten is here and in Infinity War. It's disappointing that this Strange can't appear in his own films.
I think it's a matter of perspective? other characters see strange as he projects himself, he sees himself in the other way.

Despite some oddities, Doc seemed like a wonderful host. 10/10 would visit again.
To be fair, the reason Doctor Strange summoned Thor to The New York Sanctum was because he had Loki and needed to know why he and Thor were on Earth, lest Loki was planning another Avengers-level threat to Earth, so some of the oddities, like the constant teleportation and bluntness of his questions were probably a result of trying to get Loki off Earth as quickly as possible.

I love how the movie indirectly addresses that the first thing Dr. Strange tried to do was just call Thor on his phone but instead, he abducts his brother and leaves a cryptic message. Because Thor does not have a phone. It adds a layer of realism that Strange did try to approach Thor like a normal person and was effectively forced into mysterious wizard mode.
“All right, bah-bye” is a perfect wizard ending line.
Do good
The only thing Strange could actually do against Loki is battlefield removal.. lmfao.
In Comics that doesnt work against Loki. He comes right back pissed off and not weak like in MCU..
MCU COMPLETELY botched the Infinity Gauntlet storyline too..
Those infinity stones were not held by pissants like they were in the movie..
In the Comics Guys like The Inbetweener had these Infinity Stones.. Thanos had to outsmart Cosmic God Entities to get those Stones.. He even deactivated most ofcthe I.G's power when he fought all of Marvels heroes..
He was toying with them..
He THEN faced ALL of the Cosmic Gods and Even The Celestials simultaneously before finally winning the fight.. then going on to lose the gauntlet due to his own arrogance.. his daughter Nebula stole it from him.
Steve Wilson they didn’t botch any storylines, they adapted them to film and to attract a wider audience. And based on their numbers, they succeeded on a massive level. Whether you like it or not. You still have the comics, enjoy them. The movies clearly weren’t for you.

Loki is a second rate next to Strange
They underpowered Loki so bad that it probably would be Dr. Strange. Aside from a few illusions here and there, some shapeshifting, a little mental manipulation, and the telekinesis bit when he learned that Frigga died, he's basically shown to be pretty normal. Not even any frost giant powers, which sucks. I'm hoping we'll get to see more of his powers in his series.
Definitely
@@impala-67 Strange is a full fledged sorcerer. Loki relies on deception as your examples clearly point out. Wouldn't make much sense him using frost giant powers since he doesn't even have memory of being born there. Probably has to be trained to unlock them.
@@TruthTellerTV Telekinesis, mental manipulation, and conjuration, which Loki has also been shown to be able to do, aren't strictly deceptive. He was able to put Odin under a mental spell that was so powerful that it took even him a while to shake out of it and made Valkyrie relive her worst memory. He's a Frost Giant, so he'll have their powers whether he remembers or not, though I agree he would probably need to be trained on how to use them. It just makes zero sense how many powers he was shown to have and how he rarely used them, not even counting the ones from the comics that they neglected. Loki should AT LEAST be as powerful as Strange, if not more, considering he's over 1000 years old, been learning magic his entire life, superhuman, and a god.

Agreed. He's just another powerful entity, taking a polite but firm interest. Helps make the world feel cohesive.
From what I can tell, all the overblown theatrics that make a superhero movie what it usually is aren't present here. You still get to see cool powers and a god talking with a wizard, but nothing's forced. It's a relaxed and humorous atmosphere without it trying to be so.

yeah, this type of connectivity makes it feel like a comic book which is great
I think it works very much the same way this type of cameo would work in a comic book. Strange is just another character Thor has to meet in order to get the plot moving but the entire scene isn't a forced "Hey look it's Doctor Strange!" it's more or less just two characters interacting with each other. It doesn't feel like Strange is taking the focus away from Thor and the way the humor is set up there's this amusing back and fourth between the two where both characters get to have a little fun moment.

All of these things could've been massively useful in every apperance of his after this (bar maybe the last one) but he never does them again.

It's part of his arc in this movie (and then obviously later IW and Endgame and beyond). He sees himself as a god, this shakespearea being of dignity and power, not some mere mortal. This whole movie is about humbling him. He keeps thinking he's hit bottom, and then something worse happens. Even post-credits, he thinks he finally through it and then he loses even more. This goes all the way through until at the beginning of Endgame.
How can he be a god when he keeps getting humiliated like this? How can he be a mere mortal when he's capable of such feats? Juxtaposing "deluded but very powerful alien" and "fallen deity in a flawed world" is the balancing act they play; they can't go over too far in one direction or the other.

Back when MCU had good actors together to make a great movie.
Notice how unlike with Thor, Strange let's Peter Parker actually come in. He's probably more cautious with Thor than with Peter because Thor is powerful and he knows very little about him and he brought Loki with him, while he's more trusting with Peter because he fought with him in Infinity War and Peter is less likely to be a threat.
I gotta be honest. Dr Strange didnt seem himself in that trailer. Way too reckless.
@@Oooyessbro It might not even be the Dr.Strange we know. His reckless behavior deviates from how he was in the previous films.

@@vanshchoudhary7921 good point.
I just love how this scene perfectly establishes just how freaking powerful Strange really is.
Not any bombastic explosions or over-the-top special effects, he just casually moves reality without even lifting a finger, and why? To move around his own house. If this had been his introductory scene in the MCU I would quite frankly have been terrified of him even if he was a hero.
Given how he's even more absurd in the comics, rightly so.
This scene shows just how powerful Thor is and how smart Doctor Strange is.
also what a thug loki prone to violence also he is loud vs the calm Strange.
0:58 is always making me laugh! HAHA
That ‘sorrrrrrrrrry’ as he waits for the ‘umbrella’ is perfect.
I love how sassy doctor strange got after like 2 seconds of knowing the mystic arts
He always was. He just got means to be sassy with more powerful beings.
Pretty sure he's technically like a million years old (exaggeration) because of his fight with dormmamu

It's crazy how I watch these characters and I just don't think any other actor could perform these characters. As with any powerful individual, it's not about their power levels... You just need to suprise him. Plus maybe that teleport spell could have been reversed (for a round 2) but Odin was the other side so bigger fish/distractions

Nope.

@@siran424 Are you seriously saying an ordinary human (which is what strange is with or without his magic) could beat an asgardian in a physical fight?
This is the genius of marvel, I went to go see this movie and when I saw this scene I had no idea who Dr strange was and that basically made me go watch his movie because I knew he was involved in the ‘main storyline’. If they didn’t connect everything I would’ve never gone out of my way to see that movie. Same thing with guardians of the galaxy and captain marvel
This is the doctor strange we wanted in multi verse

Wether intentional or otherwise, that lil bit cracked me up
3:19 The funniest part to me is that Strange legit forgot about Loki. If Thor didn't remind him, who knows how long Loki would have been falling before Strange finally remembered lmao.

Doctor Strange bullying 2 Gods for less than 4 minutes
Dormammu : First time?
Thor (gets given the grand tour)
Loki "I have been falling, for thirty minutes!"

Strange: Irritates Thor with his teleports
Thor while summoning his hammer: Its payback time!

Dr Strange plucking a hair of Thor to cast a spell doorway is the same as Agatha Harkness's method of plucking Wanda's hair to open the doorway of memories in WandaVision. I wish these 2 magic users interact soon!!🖤
Nice catch, need to remember that for Multiverse of Madness.
Interesting observation

i love how the master of the mystic arts just doesn’t exist in the first avengers movie
there are two possibilities for why:
1. the ancient one (i think it was her at the time) knew the avengers were going to win and didn’t interfere, or
2. the more likely one: the movie would only have been 5 mins long
I think it should be because avengers were meant to be formed here. Also with space stone , time stone and mind stones with such close proximity chances of some dimensional entity using this as a chance to gain power was high. MCU is connected to wider marvel multiverse so the hell lords and nightmare demons would have used it opportunity to invade earth.
