I'm sure he _did_ see it fairly early on, and did indeed keep searching for another way. Strange had already been scanning the future in the background from before the scene even started, and continued with it peacefully while the others had their squabble. His head didn't start jittering until minutes later, meaning that by the end he was probably pushing and overextending himself in his search for another option that would spare Tony.
14,000,605 possible branch points from the moment of their arrival on Titan seems to be a pretty exhaustive search of all relevant possibilities; the set of all possible futures from that point in space and time wouldn't have been absolutely infinite; the mere fact that the branch point began with that specific group at that specific place at that specific time would have narrowed down the sea of all infinite possibilities quite a bit (including Nebula showing up out of Nowhere at the last minute.) Peter's later actions with Thanos are an an excellent example of how the possibilities from that point are constrained by the facts of the people involved; it also explains why Strange didn't do anything to shut Quill up and stop him from awakening Thanos.
Strange becoming frayed and disjointed by the end of his search likely meant that he was pushing the limits of the Time Gem and his own endurance, exploring increasingly convoluted and unlikely possibilities in an attempt to find another timeline path where they won without Tony's sacrifice.
(What if the universe shifted and Peter Quill suddenly became Rocket at the beginning of the fight, for no explicable reason? What if all of the Infinity Gems suddenly became inert shards of quartz when Thanos tried to use them? What if Adam Warlock arrived with the Silver Surfer at the last second, and timed things just right to grab the Infinity Gauntlet at a precise moment in the fight when Thanos lifted his hand? Sure, I'll check out those infinitesimally small possibilities... I might find _something.)_

Nope, it was just to sell the lie. I'm a firm believer that Dr. Strange saw a bunch of wins/losses in various degrees, but the *best* case scenario and most likely win was the one where Tony sacrifices himself to save everyone else. The pause is Dr. Strange weighing the odds and deciding to lie to tony to help guarantee the win, mirrored in the next movie where he's holding back the reservoir and holds up a single finger to Tony. From this moment Dr. Strange decided he needed to make it clear to tony that if he wants to beat Thanos and reverse the damage, it will require the final act of sacrificing himself.

In any case, Ant-Man’s own body definitely can’t do it. We’ve had actual confirmation from the writers of IW/EG that, given Thanos can take punches from the Hulk, his whole body is proportionally as durable, and so Ant-Man would be squashed against ‘the immovable walls of Thanos’ mighty rectum’. Alright. People don't seem to understand what Alex here is saying. He means that the grouping is perfect because they are coming from the Movies that are more lighthearted; the personalities written for the characters complimented well with each other. This group is smaller because they're the more easily digestable group when it comes to writing in comedic timings.
That is why Thor was with the Guardians at first and then they had him leave. They first milked the comedy between Thor and Starlord then they had to split the comedy between the rest of the Avengers cast. The comedy mainly came from Thor and the Guardians.
Having just Groot or even just Rocket in here meant that they'd have a surplus of jokes. They had to balance it out except this group is just full on for the audience's benefit when it came to dialogue. Notice how on this movie on the other side in Earth, there weren't many dialogue scenes because everyone there had absolutely low Comedic value. Why do you think they had Hulk/Banner be the butt of the joke on the Earth scenes? Because everyone there was so serious like Rogers, Romanov, etc.
One could argue that the only one out of place in thr Titan grouping was Mantis, but she was perfect because she somehow balanced out the group's comedy with her general blandness as a character. She's funny, but beside Lord, Stark, Peter and Drax; she actually brings their hype down.

Strange saw Tony's death in Endgame and the moment he wakes up, Tony is the person right in front of him. Strange's response when he says in only one possibility do they win hits differently now that we know what happened in Endgame. He's not just terrified that they need to be careful to achieve that one possibility. His long pause after Tony asks "How many do we win?" means he's knows Tony has to sacrifice himself and Strange feels sorry that he has to let it happen to ensure everyone else lives.
