      There was no jugement in his voice when he spoke of Loki's spell. Perhaps some admiration, especially with the words "Frigga would have been proud." That's what makes this one of my favorite scenes in Marvel, right up there with Steve fighting The Winter Soldier on the highway.

      i think he was more impressed by the fact that loki put a spell on him and made him think he's some crazy old man sent to retirement home rather than kill was proof that for all of the issues they had. loki loved odin. odin knew that and was also impressed by what frigga had taught him. the odin we see is the father. not king of the nine realms. a father who is filled with shame and regret but also carrying on the last bit of hope towards his sons.

      The comics paint a similar family picture.
      Thor's birth mother in the comics is Gaea, a very ancient Goddess of Life.
      He has at least two half sisters that I know of, one being the Hawaiian goddess Pele from Gaea (Gaea intermingled into just about every pantheon, being one of the oldest Earth mothers) and Angela, the character from Spawn, via Odin I believe (and Neil Gaiman 😋).
      He also has a half brother, Balder, born from Frigga.

For as strong and mischievous as we've seen Loki to be for practically all his appearances up until this point, he's left speechless at this point. It's like he's who he was in Thor One, with some extra added clarity too.
      For Thor too, he's back to how he was then, he's bargaining the whole time, trying desperately to make sense of his Father's imminent death. Trying to find a way around it.
      I wish this movie had more of that somber reflection. It's nice. Peaceful too.

      @Eric J no more like the unexplained parts that were left out. Siv is no where to be found, suddenly no Jane, Darcy, or Eric that were in the last two Thor movies, Hela is somehow Thor's sister and not Loki's daughter. It's not explained how Odin ended up in Norway or how he even made it to the retirement home. Just a Loki spell is all we are given. Thor knew about the Valkyrie but never wondered what happened to them considering Hela killed them? And yes although the comedic parts were good at times most of them felt awkward and ruined some of the good build up scenes.

    • @gogogoooooooooo
      @gogogoooooooooo Před 5 lety +45

      kekster bojester Natalie Portman wanted out, Darcy + Eric were written out because they were poorly made characters (also because of the change of writers and director), and why would we need further explanation as to how Odin ended up on Earth? Loki puts a spell on him at the end of Thor 2 and banishes him to rule Asgard himself. I don’t see why there needs to be a 2 second scene of Thor going “What happened to the valkyries?” or of Odin finding a way to Norway. These aren’t plot holes at all. The only thing I agree with is “Where’s Siv?” and why is Hel the sister but then again, Marvel’s Norse mythology is completely different than the actual one so it doesn’t ruin it for me. You’re nitpicking a bit.

    3:22 when Odin says "I love you my sons" Thor doesn't even really react to it, like he didn't hear it because he's basically always known and felt that from Odin but Loki's reaction; the surprised expression to it really show the difference between their inner battles. Just after hearing that Hela Goddess of Death is coming for them, Loki is more in disbelief and shock of what he heard about being loved than another disaster is coming while Thor is more focused on the disaster. Really pulls at the heart /.\

      I wish they mixed the dialogue from this scene with the previously cut version of the same scene where it was happening still in New York - in that version of this scene Odin went crazy and is a hobo who remembers being Odin, but is just kinda lost. Thor and Loki reach out to him like here, but instead of being calm and collected he is exctatic to see them and shows almost arrogant pride in them, he tells them how they're both his blood and especially to Loki how his inner turmoil, rage and passion are all from Odin. He relates to him. He tells him that Loki's character IS inherited from Odin, that they are connected, that Loki is HIS son, no one else's. In that moment, although crazy and beyond reason, he shows the most love and pride for Loki he's ever done.

    This scene is a gem! It touches the right heart strings. Shows what a father feels like when he is on a different path to his children. I don’t mean like close to death, but a clear realisation that you are not going to be with your kids for too long now.
    Imagine you are in one car and your kids in another car next to your car. You are coming up to your exit and you see the sign of that exit. All those problems that you struggled with in your life for yourself and for your kids suddenly become irrelevant. You have to let your kids fight their fights on their own. It’s incredibly humbling feeling. This scene portrays that brilliantly.
