@@parham6676 actually this an original Europe lift. This how they looked and worked when they were made in 1793. Which was a reinvention of the Ancient Greek lift in the 3rd century BC that they used to lower gladiators down into the arena. The name of this style of lift is called Paternoster lift, which was made for one single person to use without luggage or pets.
Edit Grammar.
â@@parham6676 some other comment mentioned this but, those elevators aren't everywhere, its just there for people to experience I think
Here is some context:
What you can see here is a so called paternoster elevator. They are only meant to transport people, so no luggage, dogs, or other things.
This is a very old elevator concept, and the construction of new paternoster elevators is prohibited in Germany since the 1970s.
The ones that are still left are mostly there for historical reasons because they look pretty cool.
If you look carefully, there is a sign that says âLastenaufzugâ with an arrow pointed to the left. This means that right next to this elevator, there is a normal, modern elevator capable of transporting luggage and whatever else youâd like to transport.
Thank you ! I am french and I have never saw any elevator of this kind in Germany so now I understand that it is not very common.

@@williamm4366 doesnt mean you should make everything as dangerous as possible
People have died from this... there were two people who died from these last year apparently but other than that the only numbers I could find is that between 1977 and 1986 there were 23 accidents, 3 of which were deaths. Back then there were 500 of theses in Germany still but today there's only like 200 left in Germany because here it hasn't been allowed to build new ones since '74 and government tried to get rid of the other ones twice but every time people protest it (says Wikipedia... the last attempt was apparently 2015 and I have never heard about these ever).
They're not viable for taller buildings and they're also not accessible (and while accessibility is not thaaaat big in Germany we at least have laws to make sure that elevators are obligatory in public buildings usually) which is why they're dying out here. But apparently they are more efficient than regular elevators (only when it comes to transporting people tho) because they can transport more people than a normal elevator of the same size due to the rotation of cabins.

Cool. đ There is one of these elevators in a historical building in Germany where I worked until my retirement last year.
Of course we used to introduce it to all our colleagues visiting from like France or the US.
We often went with them in the cabin and on the way up we told the first-time users very nonchalantly that BTW the cabin will turn upside down at the top. The reactions when the point of no return came close were hilarious.
They of course all found out that the cabins actually simply go sideways and then go down the other shaft.
âGerman elevatorâ they closed most of the paternoster down, since people arenât fit to use them anymore. They mostly existed in old official buildings anyway.

â@@knightmare2135nah it doesn't go upside down other wise the signs on the other one would be flipped and the space between the two shafts is not enough to flip them. They just swap shafts upside only
