    Heartbeat is still on air here,two episodes each weekday,I love it. I am just sceptical about the motorbikes used at the time.The Francis Barnett (or franny as we called them) were certainly used in York,along with scooters in the 60's,but if memory serves,the bike used in rural Yorkshire and most other areas was the good old Velocette LE,our local bobby used to let us sit on his.

    We went to Goathland quite a few times, but only once did
    we almost get the chance of seeing the actual filming. We
    got lost trying to find the place, and it was late afternoon.
    We arrived just as the crew were setting up lighting at the
    roadside for an evening shot. One of the crew moved his
    van, so that I could photograph the shops. I love this show
    and watch it almost every evening. It was a quality show,
    with excellent scrip writing, acting, likeable characters, and
    and a sense of humour.

      Yeah I know exactly what you mean there. Several times in the mid-late 90s and early 2000s I would go with my dad all the way from Lancashire to visit Goathland or Otley where they used to film the police station and police house and it was very difficult to find out when or where they were filming, asking the landlord at the Black Horse in Askwith or the Goathland Hotel they either didn't know or didn't want to tell us. Only on 3 occasions we managed to watch them filming scenes because someone mentioned they were flming on a certain date, once for the earlier Nick Rowan series and two where from series 17 after Bellamy had been killed off.
      I have video from the filming at the police house on 1st June 1996 for series 6 ep 10 "Giving the Game Away" where Nick's mum arrives back see Eileen, then later they filmed scenes of Nick's London pal Errol walking around the house and then walking down the path where Nick would point him towards the Aidensfield Arms (which was 40 miles away lol), then later they moved to back of the house to film what was a very short scene on screen with Maggie Bolton talking to Nick in her Landrover. My dad chatted to the bloke who drove the taxi and he seemed a very friendly bloke. I really need to upload some of that video.

      As many of you have said it should have kept going, it took us back to a time when people were more friendly towards each other doing things helping each other out with kindness certainly not like these days. Bring back the 50s and 60s.

    Did you know that David Lonsdale has this video on his website. That's how I came to find this video, I was looking at his website. High praise indeed for you uploading this. We also saw them filming when we went to Goathland. It was a fete at the village hall. We saw Phil and Ventris who were still policemen then. We were hoping to see David and Greengrass, but they didn't seem to be in those scenes. In the next series, we actually saw the scenes they were filming. It was so fascinating to see them preparing and filming, then seeing it as part of the programme.

      As far as I cam remember, they cancelled this "Excellent" show to concentrate on the likes of
      "Emmerdale" and other aweful rubbish. We have
      been down to Goathland where "Heartbeat" was
      once filmed. Skripps garage, was a gift shop when
      they were not filming, and the Aidensfield Arms
      across the road is called the Goathland Hotel.
      It's a great show, and we still watch all the re-runs
      weeknights on ITV3 at 6.00pm. Shame it was axed.

    Many moons ago, I contacted the maker's about the use of a Southern Bulleid Pacific locomotive being used on the programme ( remember Claude Greengrass) when they were trying for historical accuracy. The NYMR have several accurate engines, but for the time scale, they should have been early diesels. The use of Southern and Great Western engines was completely out of sinc with the timeline.
    The answer?
    The public will never know, one steam engine looks like any other!

    Is sad this show would definitely not work now as the lifelines are dead Oscar ,Alf and not to forget I’m my opinion a underrated character completely ,Bernie .David Peggy Gina etc possibly could keep it together but don wetherby and younger and mason couldn’t and Dawson was a let down
    Here’s what say Alf left town because Oscar died from the ending of the programme when Oscar was stabbed bring back rob walker as the station sgt David takes over the garage and get the bike bloke from the first series to help him out Peggy will linger as she always did Then to hopefully boost ratings a PCI (police chief inspector) N rowan turns up
    Miller is still there he demoted due to the situation that occurred in the last episode and is the replacement for wetherby younger is still the dopey copper and then get a Yorkshireman to be the new village bobby ITV IF YOU ARE VIEWING USE THE IDEA (obviously your not) BUT SERIOUSLY WE NEED HEARTBEAT BACK🔴

    Wish there was more amateur recordings of the filming of Heartbeat from the earlier series when Nick Berry and Greengrass were in the show, people probably have got home videos of the filming but for some reason they don't upload them, probably because it's such a pain for them to convert the Hi8 or VHS-C camera tapes to digital and then upload them rather than uploading them straight from their camera phone or digital camera. People seem reluctant to upload anything more than 20 years ago for some reason, again modern technology and convenience may have something to do with it where people can't be bothered to digitise their old VHS or camcorder tapes to their PC. To think there could be lots of videos like this from the earlier series waiting to be seen. There is one or two videos on youtube from the earlier series, one where they are filming Greengrass at the village shops after Kate has died. Another video I've seen shows the filming of the Xmas 96 episode at the village church and some scenes outside the Aidensfield Arms. Surely the people who lived in that village bothered to film some of the filming on their video cameras at some point.

      @MrBooojangles Před 2 lety

      I am one of those people you are talking about. I filmed when we saw them filming at Goathland, but the problem I had was that in 2006 the head of my 8mm camera failed on me, so I then bought my first digital camera and I didn't even have my first computer till then either. Of course, what I should have done was buy a 8mm camera, or indeed an 8mm tape player, as they were still around then. But no I left it about ten years, then just happened to see one for sale in a charity shop, then panic set in and I thought I should buy this or I'm never going to get to see my tapes again, without spending hundreds of quid to have them all converted by a local company. Oddly about 6 months later someone was selling another privately and I bought that one too, just as an insurance policy incase the other failed on me. One day I will get to convert them and upload the Heartbeat clip and all the railway stuff I filmed years ago, but I don't think it will be for a long time yet.

      @@MrBooojangles Yeah that would be nice to see that footage if you get the chance to upload, cheers. What was it that you filmed? which series/episode was it from?. I still need to upload my footage I filmed at the police house in June 1996, it's from the episode of series 6 where Nick's London pal Errol is on the run owing money and goes to Nick for help. The woman who played Nick;s mum was there when she arrives in a taxi and Anne Stalybrass who played Kate's Aunt Eileen and also Kazie Pelka who played Maggie Bolton. I think any of the locals seem bothered about them film, none of em came out to watch. I bet those loving opposite that probably never bothered to record anything on their camcorders, get autographs or snaps with the cast, I bet none of em watched Heartbeat.

      @@MrBooojangles Thanks for that, sounds interesting what you saw being filmed. So it's probably between series 5 and series 11 as I think that's when Maggie Bolton was still the nurse. Do you know if Mike Bradley was there?. It could be from series 8 as there's an ep just after Nick left where they hold a disco/dance and Bradley is doing the DJing. The nearly a year gap between the episode being filmed and when it was broadcast would indicate it was one of the last episodes of that series to be filmed as normally I think they take about 4 months to air. When we watched them filming at the police house on the 1st June 96 the ep was shown in September.

    • @MrBooojangles
      @MrBooojangles Před 8 měsíci

      @@Embracing01 we didn't see Mike in the scene we saw and can't remember if he was in it at the time. Something else I remembered was that outside of the fete, by the gate in to it, was a beautiful classic bus, which some people got out of and when we saw the episode, they put The Beatles Magical Mystery Tour music on top of that bit of them getting out the bus and walking in to the fete area. That would be another clue to finding the episode. Unfortunately I filmed it on 8mm tape at the time and then edited it on to VHS tape, so can't really check on it to watch it again. 😬
