  • This video is more of a case study explaining the thought process & showing how we went through diagnosing this vehicle. Temperature can play a key role in diagnostics, and this video will show you why. I thought it may be helpful to someone trying to learn strategy based diagnostics and how not to get burned by jumping to conclusions. Thanks for watching.

You make a good point "the customer explains the issue as best they can". That's important because the description depends on the experience of the owner. When my wife has a complaint about her car nothing she says makes sense to me because she hasn't a clue of mechanical systems. I have to ask many questions before her and I are on the same page. I have said this on other channels and that is I think hearing your process of how you approach a complaint is just as important as how you fixed it.

If the issue isn't straight forward and the service advisor at our shop hasn't been able to capture relevant information from the customer, I pick up the phone and talk to the customer whilst I am working on their car.... One of the benefits of working at a small shop and being able to talk with the customer first hand and bypass the front desk. Our service adviser is fantastic for someone who has no experience on working on vehicles, she is methodical and picks up what a fault might be just by managing the jobs that come and go and doesn't get offended when I ask for a customer's number so I can speak to them directly.

I've changed spark plugs and coils yhinkimg that may have been my problem, but everytime I start my 2009 dodge journey and have it running fine, it just after a few minutes of driving, starts misfiring and eventually one of the cylinders stops.
I do have a code about the 02 sensor 1/2 heater circuit High... but the weird thing is that my vehicle ran fine for the 10,000km I put on er, and then one day limp mode. I got the crank sensor changed and it appeared to run perfect again until I was halfway home, and now this issue happens like clockwork. Tried seafoam in the tank hoping there was just something in the fuelline..but no luck. I should also mention i have a accelerator pedal posistion sensor 1/2 correlation code as well.
Again zero issues until now, the check engine light has been on since I bought it and I only paid $1500 and in 3months put 10,000km on er lol (for work) so I can't complain. It's be nice to solve this issue if possible tho, so at the very least I could have it due me until I find a replacement. Buddy who sold it to me thought the engine lightnwas just a faulty sensor problem because his scanner doesn't bring up any codes for it, it wasn't until I brought it to my buddy with a more expensive professional tool that did an in depth diagnostic that I learned of these codes. The acceleration has always seemed weak on it to me as well, but a 4cylinder dodge journey isn't known to have much torque to begin with so 🤷‍♂️ just super odd that one priblem was fixed and a new one arises. My only guess sis that the crank sensor needing replaced 2wice in a relatively short time, is a symptom of something else that is now giving me the misfire issue.

Joe : I am not a tech , but if it would allow you to do the injector diagnosis without a wiring diagram , piercing wires and scope setup - that could be huge time saver . I don't know if that inductive wand can go under the intake plenum . Perhaps a discussion with their tech department . Same with their ignition analyzer . Since you have a following , maybe they could send a loaner for testing . Good Luck .l

Also had the Horn Switch replaced, another 550$ it had been the parasitic draw for years, making us replace several batteries and an alternator and would rarely ever start and had to take fused out cause that bad horn switch, the horn might go off anytime of day, like crazy, even with no key in the car at all. Can’t get rid of this crap car, we still owe $2,000 .
