    Using the scope to verify the blower as the underlying fault of it all is the bigger message here. The Autel scope is a great starter scope.

      hollow points are actually another misrepresented item. They are safer to use in self defense because when they hit the target the will instantly spread, which will keep the bullet from penetrating through the target and into innocent bystanders. The old BS about them being cop killers is movie propaganda. False in every way.

      @@JoesAutoElectric I agree, but NJ politicians don't seem too. I think you can have them in a locked and fastened case, to transport directly to and from the range, but they are illegal to have in the gun outside of your residence without a permit. It's been like 10 years since I had to drive through NJ. Of course they don't recognize the Ohio Concealed Carry License.
      I know I just carried FMJ's and had to unload and store it in my gun safe in my trunk on the way through. Federal law allows me to transport it on my way through under FOPA as long as I comply with state transportation laws. I just went with my 5 shot 38 revolver and FMJ's to be sure.

      The software for the pico scope is far better than the Autel software. If you use a scope a lot it’s the one to buy!

  • @kevincampbell8298
    @kevincampbell8298 Před 4 lety +1

    I started out in the auto world in high school. But after working at a dealer decided it wasn’t for me. So I took electronics in college. Been an electronics tech for 30 yrs. after several years of teching and some teaching I switched to IT. All decent jobs. But have been using scopes for decades!
    I looked at the Autel because is a much cheaper option than a pico. The software is meh. But the scope part itself worked okay. Think I might consider it over a hantek.
    I still use my old fluke 99B and my analog techtronix scope...
    Still work on cars and bikes. The electrical stuff became so easy after 3 years of electronics training in college. It really needs a lot of emphases in the automotive programs. There is no substitute for lots of electronic circuit training. Maybe not to the extent I had.
    Great vids as always! Cheers from Ontario Canada!

This is a great example of understanding the circuit design and integrity so you knew that it was ground side circuit so you could do some fast simple testing to verify, rather than pushing parts at it to see if it fixes it. I use the power probe lighter adapter same way you do, fast easy known power and grounds. Nice job brother.

    It seems like with the way technology is going with scopes and making vehicles drive themselves they could engineer a better style of resistor (control module) that won't be as likely to burn up your hard earned investment while you riding in it. I work for a radiator and HVAC shop plus we do more and 90%of the time the resistor harness and blower get replaced. And with a scope you can verify and have proof that the blower is bad and do it quickly.

    Nice job explaining the process. It would be easy to assume the resistor was bad based on experience but that's why your a professional, you test to verify. Having two issues is always a challenge but you make a good point. Having a scanner and scope is totally necessary for these days of working on cars.

But the 4 channel Hantek I just bought id good enough for me to do what I need it to do on cars. That said you need to know how a scope works or it will confuse you.

    That's a very thorough diagnosis, many shops would've just stopped with the resistor/pigtail replacement and called it done. With cars becoming as technical as they are nowadays, is it still even possible to run an auto repair shop without having an advanced-level scope? I don't know how they could get by with just a $100 scan tool

    • @JoesAutoElectric
      @JoesAutoElectric  Před 4 lety +4

      Thank you. In truth you cannot get by with only one scan tool...especially not 100 dollar one. You need tens of thousands of dollars in scan tools. A scope , in my opinion, is a must have tool. We have three...I want one more...and want to sell one of the ones I have currently. So we'll see...Never have enough diag tolls or knowledge.

    Why didn't the fuse blow if those wires were hot enough to actually burn the insulation of the copper? Why would the motor cause that connector and terminal to heat up like that?

    • @JoesAutoElectric
      @JoesAutoElectric  Před 4 lety +2

      The amperage draw is not high enough to cause the fuse to blow. What does happen is the resistor itself does get hot, normally. The plastic connectors over time get slightly loose and create excessive heat and this beings a cycle of damage that results in what you saw here.
