My AWD system does not work. The RWD does not kick in whatsoever. so when you are trying to go up a hill in snow or whatever. It says service AWD.
You have that right!
I bought a 2015 dodge journey avp 2.4l in 2016, it had 16 miles on it when I bought it. It now has 205,897 miles on it. It still runs well and drives smoothly 👍🏼
I own one and trust me the problems never ends.
107K miles on my 2016 Journey Crossroad V6. No major issues. I’ve replaced the thermostat. If you get one, just maintain it. Take care of your car and it will take care of you.
I know these are older videos, but still absolutely 100% relevant today. I have been 3 weeks now trying to decide on this or that to trade into next. (still about 3 weeks out from being ready to trade). Your videos has been PRICELESS in my checking things off the list to avoid, and what stays on the list. Absolutely invaluable! THANKS to all of your team for putting these videos out!
I just sold my first journey, a 2009, that still ran great and gave us no issues at 300k. It became our kids car when I purchased my second one, a 2014, which I’m still driving at almost 200k with no major issues to date. I’m sad to see them go and will be on the lookout for a similar vehicle (possibly a Grand Cherokee L or Wagoneer)
I have a 2018 Dodge journey SE 4 cyl with 142k miles and she still running like a champ and feels very new still
I have a Dodge journey sxt 2013 . It's done 83000 km and still going strong.Even the battery and brake pads are still the original. I cannot understand the fuss people making about Dodge journey. For me it's a brilliant car.
I have the same exact model and year. Just put 70,000 on her and never had one issue. Has been a wonderful automobile. Knock wood.
Facts
We had like a 2009 model and it was sooo small in the 3rd row.
im going to buy a used 2010 journey sxt, 127,777 miles for $6,800. I think the price and miles is a reasonable deal for a semi newer car, but i had heard there are issues with these cars, but i want to double check...
Is it worth it?
@@inzane3229 nope its not
I love my 2011 dodge journey. Had maybe a dozen problems over the years but still runs great and looks great.
You should never have a dozen problems on a vehicle other than a lemon.
Mine too
My 2011 Dodge Journey runs today as good as it did new . Keep the oil changed regularly and change the air filters...thats it .it's due for brakes soon but it's 11 years old since it was a demo car and even has the original battery.

I have a 2010 and I have 3 out of 5 problems with mine. Its in the shop now.
I own one. Trust me: it's not just 5 problems.
Literally everything he described I experienced 🤣🤣 especially the eratic wipers. Add mention the transmission solenoids on the 6 speed. 😭. I let the poor thing go.
@@hollisiv9947 yea I have a bad selenoid in my 13 . It's paid for so I'ma keep untill it does
@@cyrussstinson332 I'm sorry to hear 😭.
@@cyrussstinson332 I had a 2013 as well. Barely gotten to 101k
Literally, I got a 2014 make basic SE 6 cylinder and its had countless issues! Never getting one again
I have a 2017 I love my car no problems in all these years. Plan to own it for many more years.
I had to change the throttle body & thermostat & radiator & transmission 🙄 after days I purchased it 🤯 and I take care of the car good..........but this guy said facts on Journey he does knows 👍🏻👍🏻
I have a 2012 SXT 4 cylinder, 2.4 L, front wheel drive with 156k on it. I've driven from Texas to Guatamala and back twice and it's been our daily shared short journey car inbetween hammering over the Sierra Madres . As a family we really hammer this car with dog in the back, camping gear on the roof and sometimes bikes on a rack at rear. I've had to change the thermostat and the waterpump. The rear lights went out so I had to fix the wiring with electrical tape and just a week ago a rear side window stopped opening so I'll have to fix that. It started using oil about 30k ago and so between oil changes I have to top it up with a pint or two.. I change the oil every 5k +/- and have done the transmission services on time. I think I change the anti freeze every 2 years. My wife chose the car for the leather seats and sunroof thing, I'd never owned a Dodge before always Ford, Nissan or Toyota. This has been the toughest and most reliable car I have ever owned. I guess I got lucky! I don't want to talk about the Sonic we bought...
Thanks, about the same with 2015, 4 Cyl ,,, thouhg only 93, 000 miles now… see my Comments
My 17 journey gt is fantastic! Only issue I have had is replacing the key fob battery. 61k miles. I've towed boats and jet skis with it with no issues. Awd works great too
+Chris Page Thanks for the feedback!
FOB battery lasts about 2 years, I actually keep a spare in the glove comlarment.
U shouldnt have to replace anything at 60k. Lol. I find it funny ehen ppl ssy that. I loterslly oen cars with over 350k sith all the original parts but a car u have to change shitbon at 60k is soooo great.
It’s a dodge respond to your comment at 100k miles :)
What about having to take the wheel off to replace the battery?
We had a 2013 with the V6 and no issues with just over 100K miles.
We traded for a 2017 Journey GT with the V6 and it is now over 100K without any issues.
Just normal maintenance.
I even tow my 18' roundabout boat with it.
We normally get 27 mpg on the highway, towing the boat is 17 mpg and running in 5th gear on the highway, towing at 70 mph.
No issues.
I bought my 2012 dodge journey new and have 194,000 on it. Same engine, tranny, no electrical problems. I have replaced some stuff and always maintained it with a master mechanic. I know these don't have good reputations and it is not a high end car by any means, but it has been a good road car and reliable. First Dodge I ever had. Every manufacture has their rough cars, especially if it isn't their high end models. Most people don't get problems fixed right away and they don't have someone they can trust.
True about people not properly maintaining their vehicle or not having a trust worthy mechanic.
Buenos días, gracias por la orientación, fue de mucha ayuda, en mi Journey dejo de funcionar el limpia parabrisas y lo hice como lo indica y me funcionó, gracias Dlsb, desde tuxtla Gtz chiapas, México.
My niece almost bought a 2009 Dodge Journey thank god for you mechanics on CZcams. The current owner said AC don't work. Watched this video told her dont buy it.

The 2010 Dodge Journey is my first car and I have a love hate relationship with it 😭😂
Same!
When it runs right, it's an amazing vehicle.
@@stringslinger5504 - Just got a 2019 SXT and I'm hoping I got a good one. 🤞🏾

Great video..Thank you
Great video, as always!!!
+sagi fern Thanks for the feedback!
Mine just may of hit the end of the road. Got 313,000 miles out of it. Timing chain went tonight and did catastrophic damage to bunch of components. It whipped around and tore through a lot. Probably going to let it go. However I would buy it again for sure!! It was reliable AF until now!!
Year/model?
I have no idea about cars but you made it so easy to learn
The face he made after saying there’s nothing wrong with buying one lol
Hey, random question ! For a 2009 what size gauge is the positive cable? I need to replace the terminal. I am gonna get a compression terminal. Thank you !
Thank you. Your video helped. Much Appreciated.
This is a great channel!
RIGHT ON ‼️ THANKS 4 THE VIDEO YO ‼️‼️‼️
Good information, thanks for the video
Thanks for this video. I have a journey 2014. 👍
Thank you, wiper issue you helped.
Thanks! My issue is the thermostat. Do you have a video on how to replace it? I'm about to scroll through your library.
In regard to the heat issue it could also be the oil cooler or sensors
Dont forget, the best one, CRANKSHAFT POSITION SENSOR. Thatll keep ya stalled on a 4 lane highway! :)
Thanks for the video. I have a 2017 and it seems like when I change the coolant I night want to back flush the heater core before I have a problem.. I had a 2001 Fords expedition which had the same problem in 2015, I waited too long to do a back flush, it helped but it just got clogged again.
2012 here. Like everything about it except our heater core is going :( There has been a few other things but nothing major except one thing years ago that was luckily still under warranty.
With my 09 Dodge Journey, I've found the location of the battery lends to battery failure in cold weather. My battery gets cold during nights and non driving times and drags the battery down as it's located down behind the drivers front tire, removal of the battery requires removing the drivers front tire, fender skirt and then turning the wheel all the way to the right to access the battery. Also splashing through puddles can split your battery down the side as mine did a couple of years ago and led to battery acid going everywhere!
I've never had to take the wheel off my 2012, 4 cylinder to change the battery. I've driven off road on rocky trails a lot and forded streams without problem. Maybe you are missing the plastic underbody protection that fixes to the front bumper? I's a big piece of moulded plastic that I've broken twice but it protects the battery as well as under the engine and transmission. Good luck!
I have a 12, looks great, runs great,
The key fobs do eat batteries like crazy.
Bought my wife a 2013 Journey Crew with ALL the bells & whistles. She only has 58000 Miles on it now. All I've had to do was replace the battery & tires, everything else still works like it was brand new.
Can I use car seats covers with my 2009 journey sxt it has side air bags
Video should be called Top 500 Problems Dodge Journey.
Been shopping for a new car. Doing lots of research, literally cannot find any new car that isn't crap. For some strange reason, nobody seems to know how to build a car anymore.
I’m in the same boat!! I was looking at Equinoxes but after doing my research sounds like they have horrible engines 🥴
They know exactly how to build the car, the only difference is that in the past, they built them for you but now on they build them in their best interests.
@@js-wy8fg Right. They build them to only last so long before it needs something fixed. In other words, they're built in the name of "Job Security".

I bought this vehicle new 2 years ago and i urge anyone reading this, please don’t. When I say I’ve had electric problems from the start it’s been a nightmare.
We bought 1 in 2014 new, lemon law it 8 months in, we needed a 3rd row vehicle so bought another in 2018 no problems so far 53k miles on it , can’t beat the price compared to other 3rd row.
Smh…wow! And you’re first owner! That’s crazy..I have a 2014 for the past 4yrs…& it’s been sooo many problems 😩
I bought mine 3 months ago and car died while I was driving on the highway. Replaced the battery but still draining.
after 130000 miles is when mine started to go terrible
What were the signs of a bad throttle body
Thanks Soooo much!
2009 here.
Changed rear axel 5 years ago 2500$
3 breaking pads
2 full sets of rotors
Exhaust valve electric part
Heater still not working...
Entire interior squeaking
Drives smooth and muffler delete^^ sounds so good lol.
And car sometimes just not start for some reason...
250,000km
Great info can you include the next 5 problems with the picture of the sensor symbols..
Thanks for the video. I bought a 2012 Fiat Freemont which is essentially the same as the Dodge Journey but with the smaller 2.4 litre Gema engine. I started up a Facebook page and found the following main issues that kept appearing on the page. 1. The wiring loom on the rear hatch. The wires eventually fatigue and snap, causing issues with various rear hatch functions such as camera, rego plate lamp, hatch lock button, wiper, reverse light, brake lights. 2. The bluetooth module. Randomly fails and is very expensive to replace out of warranty. 3. The heater vents not functioning properly. 4. The throttle body. Its made of crappy plastic so the internal cog eventually strips and fails.
Good informative videos
+arturo does it all Thanks for the feedback!
2009 Journey. Currently at just over 200,000KM, bought from original owner at 85,000KM when about 7 years old. Ran extremely well until the cooling system has crapped the bed. Radiator at 175,000KM (was expecting this, had an 08 Avenger with same 3.5 engine that did the same thing). Coolant bottle cracked at 200,000 km, causing the coolant to leak out. At 205,000km just had the heater tubes disintegrate causing all the coolant to come out while on the highway while my wife was driving who panicked, constant smell now of coolant burning even after repair. Blend door actuator now going, and it flaps like crazy when the engine is warm, shut off and turned back on. Had to pull the fuses for the horn as the TIPM is malfunctioning and making the horn randomly go off, especially after 11pm at about 190,000 KM. Door locks randomly won't work. Got some major rust forming on passenger rear fender. Battery was replaced at about 150,000KM and will never, EVER buy a car where it's in the fender well ever again. Random rear O2 sensor errors over the winter seem to have gone away now that it has warmed up, but this thing has lots of gremlins now. If it's anything like my Avenger that I bought basically as new (30,000KM), after about 250,000 KM I can expect the AC to fail, the EGR to start having problems and injectors to start dying. It's end of life now and if I put any more money outside of scheduled maintenance into it I will be trading it in. It was great till it became so unreliable - the worst thing a car can be is unreliable.
I have a 2018 I bought new only has 29k miles no issues so far other than my battery in my Fob. Just general maintenance still got my factory tires on it.
It's a GT by the way
I have a 2010 around 190km. The heat is the biggest issue I’ve found with it, it can take forever to get warm and the passenger side gets cold air only. The key fob can be annoying too.
I have a 2018 and love it had it for a year rides great got mine from a bank
Thanks
I got a 2016 journey sxt with the 2.4. Ot has 66,000 when I got it and now has 75,000. So far 0 problems. But i wouldn’t be surprised if the later models like mine have less problems than the earliest models like 2009-2012
I bought a used 2017 SE, cheap version,, in late summer in 2017 from a Dodge dealership. with 3,100 miles, yes 3100 miles, they had over 10 of these cars and probably used it for service rentals. I paid a total of $15,321 out the door, they wanted to charge me $15,900, I walked out the door got in my car and was driving down the street when the manger call me back and agreed upon my original price. I laughed when the salesman told me the were big sellers, yeah right you got 10 sitting on the lot. I have over 38,000 miles with no problems so far, I plan to replace the battery during the summer as it is a hassel to replace and I don't want to have problems when least expected. I use synthetic motor oil, changed the spark plugs at 30,000, and air filters every 20 000. To me, some of Dodge's recommended service intervals are spaced out way too long.
Well......some of the Journeys manufactured in 2012 and from 2013 onwards have some Fiat components that are not as reliable as the Dodge components. You have to check your oil because very high oil consumption is the norm. Infact there is a class action lawsuit in process right now against Dodge for this very problem. You can Google that.
Your the best!!!
What about 2018&2019 Dodge Journey crossroad how is it is there any issues with it?
My 2017 dodge has 120,000 miles on it as of today. No major issues so far. However, sometimes the keyfob doesn't work properly...
I've owned two Dodge Journeys, love them, never had any issues.
I’m buying a 2013 what years were yours?
Thank you for reassuring me on this
Lucky. Mine had been a terrible car.
Should of also said if fob battery dead or missing hold fob to start button and journey will start and drive. If journey is dead and you want to put in neutral to roll, inside of box between seats is a little opening to put screwdriver to allow stifter to move. The wiring harness inside of rubber boot on rear hatch hinge, wire tend to break due to twisting screwing up all door locks and security.
I have a 2017 Dodge Journey crossroads.. other then a small problem with the radio touch screen, Ive had NO issues. At 57000 miles
Good video
Bought a 2013 Journey SXT from a dealership 2 years ago for $9000. Had 170,000kms on it & I've had to put $5000 worth of work into it. New transmission & passenger side half shaft @ 200,000kms, new blend doors @ 215,000kms, & all the routine maintenance (oil changes, air filters, etc). Heater isn't working correctly now so I'm going to flush the core & change the coolant. If that doesn't work & I need a new heater core ($2000 job), I'm scrapping the car. We had fantastic luck with Dodges in the past (1992, 96, & 2010 Grand Caravans), but I'll never buy another Journey
My Journey has had none of those things hopped but other problems like oil getting into the coolant from a bad oil cooler, rear end started popping now. From what I read it’s called a viscous coupler
I love my Dodge Journey. And these are all minor issues cause the pentastar is king
So far so good for my 2018 Journey.

@@1AAuto you guys rock.
Hi do you recommend me to buy one?
@@rizzz007 I would recommend buying one if you care about: third row seating, rear ac, and 20k brand new. Because ekf the price the car is cheaply made and develop problems as they age. They're not that bad if you take care of it and do preventative mantinence, but some things are stupidly designed and hard to replace. Ex. Take off left wheel to get to battery, right wheel for alternator, rear struts you must take off all panels nearly, etc.
Dont forget about the alternator decoupler going out making a racket. Also the radiator hose coupler that leaks coolant and will need replacing early on. Recall on cruise control malfunctioning and driver side window control panel has issues too etc., etc.,etc.,
Can confirm on the throttle body
+Kyle C Thanks for the feedback!
From what most of the reports noted is that most of the problems were in the 09 to 10 Journeys. Most of the later years didn't have near as many reported problems.
In the process of purchasing a 2017 Journey SXT
LOL I replaced throttle body recently for like $500 usd- not too bad. Also I find that my heater works great but my AC isn’t that strong. My key fob works fantastic- my battery is strong- 100100 miles on it-I love my dodge. I prefer to drive a heavier car- this drives like a 4 cylinder...For the price I love it- windshield wipers are kinda weird on mine the fluid is clogged. My 2003 jeep fares better with the “little things” but I appreciate the modernity/space/design/mpg/simplicity of the vehicle! I’m happy and saved a lot of money ...after reading comments it definitely isn’t the most durable vehicle but the truth is some of us aren’t willing to go with a civic and need a cheaper/bigger car. If your check engine light comes on get it sorted right away with this car or you’ll be stuck in the middle of the street! :D
I guess I’ve been lucky, I have a 2014 that has been doing really well… At the moment it needs struts which I do find a bit strange since it’s only 49,000 km (which I think is around 30,000 miles). Otherwise, I’ve been thinking of switching to another vehicle that would be more practical for camping, but I can’t bear to tear myself away from this one, it has never let me down.
+Linda Sue Thanks for the feedback!
2011 journey, bought new. I have 215,000 +. It’s been a great car
I have a question have a 2017 dodge journey the stabilizer track system light comes on and there's a grinding in front end what could that be
I have a 2014 now and it all went downhill after 100k, my rak went out, my coils went bad, and my engine is knocking. The only good thing is it’s great on gas! But I’ll be getting rid of it soon!
What about a tapping noise after an oil change?
Just got my wife’s 2012 journey out of the shop with a new motor, and a week later the engine light comes on so we take it back to the shop now I need a new catalytic converter. I think the motor was probably easier to change than the battery. Other than that really like the car.
It’s definitely not just 5 problems!! There’s a lot of issues with it!! I have the 2014 SE and it’s gave me nothing but issues I’ve had to replace the battery 6x, the whole PCM/ECM as well already!!😅
I have an 09 SXT and have not had these problems per se, but others. Mind you I'm not the first owner, but some things I noticed are that several of the electric controls have stopped working, and it's not the button assembly. Also the engine mounts and control-arm bushings are pretty bad.
I have an 09 SXT and have not had these problems per se, but others. Mind you I'm not the first owner, but some things I noticed are that several of the electric controls have stopped working, and it's not the button assembly. Also the engine mounts and control-arm bushings are pretty bad. There are any me things in this car that are way more time-consuming and harder to fix than in other cars. This six-cylinder engine is pushed up against the chassis and makes it hard to access certain things.
I have an 09. Change oil light and low washer fluid won't go off even tho both have been changed
Like anything it depends on where and when it was made as well as where the parts came from and or that were used. I find the vehicles that come out of Canada are better all the way around.
Have two journeys 300,000 Kms and 220,000 kms best vehicles I’ve ever had it’s all about how you drive and maintenance .
Is that's the 3.6 on wranglers 2012 -2020???
Do you guys not do repair videos anymore? I remember this channel use to be a channel about “how to change etc on a etc etc” all I’ve seen lately is this top 5 stuff
I like the realistic coment of everycar will have a problem.
i bought 2015 2,4 litre had to flash the computer once ,1 throttle body no other issues great car 173,ooo lots of room storage drives great for 4 cylinder 23ooo well spent
P0128 code is for the thermostat. Just happened to me today on the wife's 2013 Journey. Replaced it and reset. But yep thermostat in the top 5.
My power steering hose got a hole in it does it make it not want to turn if I still have power steering in it
Had same issue 3 weeks ago, I have 2018 20,000 miles. Took to shop was replaced under warranty known issue is what I was told. Mines actually leaked
2014 R/T with 135k and non of these problems was expecting to see other issues. For me it's 1 - front brakes, not sure what is up with them but they never worked well from new. Something where the caliper pieces are not sliding well even when new and lubed IDK but this thing eats rotors, pads wear funny and everything in between. 2 - wheel hubs, replaced every one, and need to do the front again. 3 - rear dif seal passenger side. It gets cooked by the exhaust it will go out. 4 nav system, needed some update after just a few k miles and dodge was like nope we don't do that. 5 - tranny pan leak, I think they just use some sealant from factory, it will fail eventually. All said and done though I like this car and hopefully i can keep it going for many more thousand miles without too much hassle. The engine is great, the awd system is pretty decent, with a decent set of tires the journey feels very balanced and capable in the snow. It's much lighter than other vehicles in it's class and smaller making it much more nimble and quicker for starts and stops. We also have a 19 chevy traverse and it feels like a boat compared to the journey, good bit more space inside though. I'd buy another journey
I had a 2013. 130,000 miles. Never had a problem except the thermostat was bad. The temperature never got above 1/4. Didn’t have heat. Swapped it and was good to go.
Just bought a 2009 used. Having electrical problems. Thought it was key fob. Changed the battery work for a little bit. Can us the lock or windows on driver's door. Lights flash on and off. Windshield wipers flash on and off. Gages go up and down. Security light on and off. Dings every time it does it. Ive done all the rest tricks I've found googling the issue. They'd work for awhile. The other day it stopped and then started back up. Again.
Also having the issue with the heat. Passenger side cold driver side warm. Other then that I love it.
i have a 2013 and havent had one problem yet at 68,000 mi. i like the car but at 6*3" tall driver is slightly uncomfortable, also the rear of car floats back and forth at times so it feels strange at times
U got any problems yet ? Wana buy 2013 sxt model
Just you wait, at 110,000 miles I needed my engine replaced, if yours isnt a lemon, good for you cause thats rare
My 2016 Journey Crossroad with 68,000m is a great vehicle. No issues, nice ride, plenty of power. There's technically only one generation but there's a bunch of different trims so you really can't shotgun blast this vehicle.4cyl, 6cyl, etc.
I'm spose to get a 2016 crossroad with 42 kilo used at 18.000$...payments of 180$ two weeks no grantee thou...is that worth it?
What about with the 3.6 pentastar?
How and where do I reconnect the air bag wires. I know they're under the driver's seat but I don't see where to reconnect it. Please let me know asap. Thanks
I own a 2009 dodge Journey n it's been a good vehicle so far. The heater core is going out and so is the blower motor it don't work on high. I own 3 dodge Vehicles right now. A 07 Dodge Caravan a 09 Dodge Journey and a 2011 dodge Grand Caravan. I'm issues with the Grand Caravan right now. But overall the Dodge vehicles have been good for me and my family
