I eventually got over it when I lived in another place with a Toyota dealership that was the polar opposite, knowledgeable & respectful sales people and no B.S. with expensive add-ons. The manufacturers would be wise to monitor this. Look around, there are good Toyota dealerships out there, I wish they all were.

@@danielrn133 I had a "pre-Nissan" way back when (bought new): a 1973 Datsun 1200 Coupe. Was the best/most reliable car I've ever. It had maybe 700-750K (?) miles on it (odometer broke at 400K) by the time I had to part with it after 32 years (!) because I couldn't get parts for it anymore.
Then I had a 1985 Nissan 200SX LE...it was also very reliable (but got taken out in an accident with a 18-wheeler).
Had 2 Hondas -- a 2006 CRV and 2016 Pilot -- the CRV had several major (and expensive) issues the Pilot had none.
Had a 2014 Subaru Crosstrek XV...only 3 years though but no issues, just the lest comfortable seats ever, and it's heater didn't work well in single-digit or -0 temps we sometimes had in Colorado. But its AWD was amazing.
Now I have a "POS/Crap Stellantis Jeep" as some people say, but so far, it's been great.
So you never really know anymore what brand to go with. Car-buying seems to be a crap-shoot and you might have better odds picking a GOOD one at a casino in Las Vegas.

The banks don't really care about the collateral, when they write a loan they create money out of thin air. what they want is for you to continue paying on it so they can collect the interest on it. The last thing they want to do is repo the truck, that costs them more time and money and then they have to sell it. If something happens and you have trouble making your payments they will work with you on it. believe it or not they really don't want the vehicle.

Mid size long box trucks are Goldilocks. I own a '17 Canyon CCLB and it is awesome. That said, the long box option was only another $300 and the truck was 36.5K, which was a lot at the time. 53K isn't gonna happen for a Tacoma, and an entire generation (Gen Z) has effectively quit buying new cars. My 26 year old daughter is a perfect example, she drives an '07 Ford Escape which we keep running. I won't let her lease a newer car as that is a financial treadmill I don't want her getting on.
Take a look at Autozone's stock (AZO). Not giving a stock tip here, but just look at their long term chart. It has relentlessly marched higher because people see the value in keeping older cars on the road. A new transmission on an older car is expensive but it no longer looks like a reason to take it off the road when ya look at the insane prices of new cars. Plus a lot of the older vehicles are simpler and easier to keep running.
