  • It's really easy to find your passwords inside your computer's Memory (RAM) - and your anti-virus can't do anything about it!
    But is there a way to protect against that?

      If I was concerned about protecting my hard drive it would have to be encrypted, Even if they access the hard drive I doubt they can can get past the encryption, Thats just my opinion, just don't forget your passwords FFS lol.
      I might buy a spare hard drive and install windows 10 pro and use the bitlocker and see what damage I can do. Before you do it, I would watch a few videos on using bitlocker first, as I would hate to start with a system with everything then half way through there is a power out, Would the drive then be corrupted, I don't know, maybe I might turn the power off halfway through and find out....

    Great video as always! Did this start with a specific gen of vPro? I work in IT and use HBCD all of the time to make .wim files for system images. These are mostly 5th-8th gen vPro processors. I have never had an issue accessing the C drive. Does it have to do anything with AMT being set to unprotected?

    Could you take the hard drive out completely and stick it in a standard pc?
    There would be no Intel chip protecting the HD so you could snag all the passwords that way. You'd need bitlocker too to protect against that.

    • @Voorhees-Jason
      @Voorhees-Jason Před měsícem

      well this kind of thing was the worst case for a remote attack or virus that bypasses windows it is was he was showing. If someone physically had access to your laptop, Vpro will not stop anyone from accessing your data if they really wanted to. It just does it from that specific laptop. Bitlocker or other extra tools will be needed to do that.

    Intel VPro sounds great but by the time it is available on ALL computers someone will have a way to bypass it. Intel have been making processors for over 45 years and this tech should be already in every processor they make or at least a facility to retrofit it. Well done Intel but shame on you for not securing your customers sooner and then forcing higher prices to secure what should be standard security

      @Voorhees-Jason Před měsícem

      I believe you can turn off some of the features of vpro in the bios for this purpose. Secure boot was the first real protection we got at a hardware level and some of my tools will not boot up with secure boot on so i turn it off when doing repairs with my tools. I have not messed with vpro yet but, I am sure they have some stuff we can turn off for this use case.

      Memory is used to deal with things while the computer is running. Example is if you writing a word document and before it it is saved to your hard drive it is stored in memory. This is a small example. Once you power off your computer, your memory generally gets dumped or if it runs out software that is written correctly clears out parts of the memory it is using when it no longer needs it. This is where the term memory leak come from where software has a bug in it where it does not clear out its part of the memory and keep adding to it without cleaning itself which will keep using memory until it runs out.
      Think of memory as temp storage. If anything like a word document for example goes to memory and eventually saves to hard disk for perm storage.

      he just showed this tool. Hiren has bunch of tools to get into the hard drive to deal with broken OS problems. You can even use windows boot usb or cd to go into command prompt and enter some commands that can help fix BCD issues which is the boot stuff for windows for example.

    how would the intel hardware shield stand up against the feds in an investigation?
    actually intel could do something about external boot disks and do like apple by having their own t2 secure enclave chip to encrypt the drive.
    also i doubt you can get anything from ram since the ram is wiped on restart and shutdown.

      This is on newer laptops. I seen a laptop the other day came into our IT department. It had the Vpro sticker on it. It needed reimaging. Sadly the custodian of the laptop did not have the BIOS password. This prevented us from booting into our tools. This was not a Vpro thing. This was just a normal Bios thing. which for that group another higher level holds that information and could not get a hold of them. So we just took the hard drive out and hooked it into another device to pull down our image and put the hard drive back. IT workarounds hehehehe.
