Laptops get destroyed by viruses - unless you have one of these:

  • I tried to destroy two laptops with custom malware - did any of them survive?
We often talk about software security such as anti-virus, but what happens when malware attacks the laptop BEFORE Windows can load the anti-virus?
Will the malware be able to bypass the defenses?
That is what I wanted to test!

My question more than twenty years ago, "why can't the hardware have built in virus protection?'', and "why doesn't the internet provider have virus protection built in their system?".

Using a good antivirus program, such as Bitdefender, should help in protecting your older laptop models from viruses. Bitdefender is known for its effective virus detection and removal capabilities, and it can provide a significant layer of security even if your laptop doesn't have the latest hardware like Intel® vPro. It's always a good idea to combine this with general safe computing practices, like keeping your software updated and being cautious with downloads and email attachments. While no solution is foolproof, a reputable antivirus like Bitdefender can greatly improve your laptop's security.

So, what settings should I be sure are turned on in the BIOS for this to work. Also, looks like a Win11 feature. I wonder when the other AV companies are gonna license this tech to include in their products.

There are times when I have downloaded a file that may or may not be a torrent. When I have gone in to find the files, I find that certain aspects of the files are being quarantined without me doing a thing. Windows Defender has done OK by me.

    Some issues with vpro.
    * I assume you can't access the drive with a bootable usb (linux..?), then I can't rescue data on a failed system. THAT is not acceptable.
    * alao, probably forget cloning to a larger drive?
    * Can you even run linux on this box? Bummer if so, it is a brick to me.
    * I don't worry about hackers with linux anyway. Possbile? Yes, but no issues have ever come up.
    * vpro sounds like a big business IT solution, and not something I would ever want. I would steer away from any vpro machine.
    * and, what about AMD? AMD is the current darling and what I ordered for my next laptop.
    * is vpro acceptance how the lower performing Intel will try to outsell AMD in some way by locking AMD out?
