    I like the collars on the v2 flip stops. I bought a second set of flip stops so I could have one for the short guides and one for the longer narrow stock guides without needing to recalibrate every time I switch between them (which turned out not to be the case anyway but still useful to have 2 sets). Having the collars can achieve the same thing with one set of stops.

    • @DavidStanton
      @DavidStanton  Před 3 lety

      Hi apsilonblue! I think their latest set of parallel guides are perfectly matched to set and forget. I might ask Hans if the collars can be purchased independently?

      @carlbrothers Před 3 lety +1

      @apsilonblue, i upgraded my stops to the V2 and ordered an extra set of V2 stops so I can have multiple cuts set up at once. One significant change is that now you only need a 3mm hex key for every fastener. The spring is a nice touch on the adjustment knob.

    • @apsilonblue
      @apsilonblue Před 3 lety +2

      @@carlbrothers I noted that in the video. Only having to use one tool is a big plus compared to the v1 stops. Good idea on having an extra set for different cuts, I never considered doing that.

    These parallel guides systems seem to be the new best thing. Noticed other manufactures are sold out. I haven't completely figure it's use or advantages yet. Is this a more economical and portable alternative to a doc station on a multifunction 20mm hole table?

    David, at the 6:50 mark, I am confused as to the usefulness of the stop in this case... is it just a quick way to use the Track square without worrying about parallel, since the Track Square is perpendicular? If so, is there any real advantage to having parallel guides when using with a GRS-16 / GRS-16 PE? I have both of the track squares and the Parallel guides now, and am wondering if I wasted money getting the whole parallel kit!

    • @DavidStanton
      @DavidStanton  Před 3 lety

      Hi Christopher Tearpak! Let's say the project is not all square corners, maybe at 30 degrees? Well the parallel guides will definitely help. Also, if I need to create a heap of parallel cuts for maybe a wardrobe, I am not concerned if I have a square ens until I start docking everything to length and the added advantage is the parallel guide can connect to the side of my GRS-16 to give me repetitive cuts> A great addition to anyone's kit!

    • @christophertearpak9592
      @christophertearpak9592 Před 3 lety

      @@DavidStanton I think I see what you mean... so, if I just needed x pieces of y width that are even / parallel along two sides, then I could square up on the cross-cut, and if the side that the GRS-16 is on isn't perfectly straight, it wouldn't be indexed on the edge, so it's really just a holder for the parallel guides?
      I tend to think I am good at thinking through this stuff, but I guess I am still a bit confused as to what exactly you are demonstrating at the 6:50 mark... The text on the black screen just doesn't seem to be getting through to me. LOL

    • @DavidStanton
      @DavidStanton  Před 2 lety

      Interesting point Don. It isn't always a simple case of a 90 degree cut. Let's say you have a new sheet of ply and you want to cut one side straight and then rip the board parellel to a certain width. You can then go on to use the GRS-16 to dock that board to various lengths. The other thing is you can use one parallel guide fixed to the grs-16 as a variable set length stop. Truely a great combo.

  • @mikecrook8434
    @mikecrook8434 Před 2 lety

    If you have either a GRS-16 or the GRS-16 PE, is it really necessary to use Parallel Guide System to get accurate cuts? The GRS-16 and the PE are all that's needed. Is that not correct?

    • @DavidStanton
      @DavidStanton  Před 2 lety +1

      mike crook, The parallel guides do more than just create a parallel cut. they are also able to connect onto a GRS-16 and give repeatable lengths when cutting sheet goods to length.

    Ok i hope i can get some replies. Im looking for a track saw. Money is not the deciding factor. Im heavily invested in Makita cordless tools. Ive used the Makita cordless track saw and on the fence about it due to i got to use one for a bit from another sub contractor. Never used the Festool. Things i didnt like about the Makita, maybe changed now. Base was not flat. 55inch track and 118 track were not the same and had to adjust everytime the tension on saw going back and forth sloppy on one to tight on other. I like the price point of the makita. I can just buy more accessories after the purchase. Things i didnt like about Festool if i went cordless the battery's i know nothing about them and no double charger. Does the plug in model have more power then the cordless only basically using it on 3/4 ply. I already have a shop table saw and a dedicated table saw set up for a sled. Just basicly job site use. I just dont want to regret picking one over the other never using the Festool.

    I got a better idea for parallel guide. Fix the guide on the table permanently, and slide the stopper back and forth. The stopper, rather than meeting the edge of the stock, it meet the side of the saw track. This way it's not portable anymore, but it wont stick out of the table. And then when you have more money, add milling machine DRO to it. Now you got digital parallel guide, accurate to 0.01mm.
