Sassuolo are progressively becoming one of the most entertaining sides to watch in Italian football. Roberto De Zerbi is building a team that is attractive and effective.
So why do his critics say it’s all style and no substance?
Who does he have in his team that allows Sassuolo to play this way?
Will Sassuolo become everyone’s favourite alternative Italian side, after Atalanta?
Alex Stewart explains.

Who would’ve predicted that Serie A would be giving us attractive teams that don’t mind playing risky offensive football that doesn’t worry too much about defending.
champions league semi finals : sassuolo, leeds, aston villa, and I would put everton or something but of course, BAYERN.
More exciting then the Premier League for sure.........
@@Pessidog10 1 title winner in the last 9 years
Zdenek Zeman did so in the 90s
Andrew Hodyss My prediction for those games: Sassuolo 7-9 Leeds and Aston Villa 4-11 Bayern.
I love that you talk about Italy. For who doesn't know, both these teams (Sassuolo and Atalanta) come from very small towns and their presidents and societies are very engaged and smart. No sheiks nor Chinese enterpreneurs, no oil money and no big expenses, just the right coach and long term projects.
Bathroom tiles glue money I guess ahahah
Its impressive how Sassuolo was expected to finish lower half of table in all of the seasons since De Zerbi has taken over and yet they have managed to exceed expectations every seasons.. Now that I look at De Zerbi's whole managerial career, he has exceeded expectations with every team he has managed (even with palermo and benevento). He started at foggia and impressed everyone with style and his man management and smart signings, then moved to palermo where they say he was awful but looking at that side, i realise that they were always destined to go down and he still managed to get a few impressive results, then at benevento it was same except everyone appreciated the style of play and his impressive draw against naples, so, sassuolo picked him and since then he has impressed every season with his tactics, style and every aspect of football management. He has grown into a more matured and complete manager in these few years. Improved tactically, philosophically and every other aspect. I have grown to like him and I am really looking forward to see him at a bigger club.
Ironic when a league that said to be 'boring' has the best attacking team in Europe.
@Johan Sson he is great. But this year is not being used very much, for COVID problems.
It says boring until last year when juventus won by 1 point then it was fun. Also why does everyone still think Italian serie a is defensive I mean they are the second most attacking team in Europe with more than 3 goals per game. People still think this cuz of all the good defenders from there
The 1 point difference was only because Juve relatively didn't play the last couple of rounds because of the remainder of the ucl games
Best attacking team ??
Johan Cruyff: Quality football without results is pointless.
If they do make it to europe for next season, I hope they can make a good run like Atalanta!
Sassuolo are actually the original Atalanta, they were good before Atalanta were
@Johan Sson I think we just watched what Atalanta could do without any previous experience in Champions, now that they have a bit more let's see what is gonna happen. Don't let the loss against Liverpool fool you.
@@abdelbeneloumda8502 Yes, they aren't too bad in the Serie A either.
Sassuolo entered Europe before Atalanta but never had enough depth to help the squad in 2016
Why do you have the same profile picture as me?
The people who don’t watch Serie A are missing a lot of good football
Teams like Sassuolo, Verona and Bologna are playing very attacking football.
Thank you bro from this week I'll watch
Verona don’t play great football lol
They score and park the bus haha 😂😂
Verona is all but attacking team. They have really good and organized defence and play mainly counter-attacking footbal.
Verona is more defensive
@@timothypeters6694 They like to dominate the game Ivan Juric was under student for Gasperini in Genoa. So what you are saying is bulshit
Locatelli's rise to being one of the best midfielders in the league is so satisfying to watch. I've always thought that Milan selling him was a massive mistake.
He wasn't good enough back then & was asking for more money than he deserved
@@godofdefeat i don't believe he wanted more money. Though i remember Milan buying someone who would have reduced his playing time plus they didn't think he was good enough. They kept trying to build a team to win the league and din't have patience for young player to develop. look at Calabria who was almost sold but benched Conti (the guy meant to replace him), another is Cutrone who was shipped out even after a good start to his career . Milan mad mistakes trying to win now instead of building a team to compete like the have this year.
@RITURAJ JHA No.He won't join them fa sure. Sassuolo is playing exceptionally well and they know how to tease opponents.Juve's not the real challenge, playing at sassuolo is.Let them go to europa, ucl anywhere. We the neutral football fans wanna enjoy watching these teams and milan's is getting back and you guys have brilliant mids with kessie, bennacer, tonali, hakan and why bothering man? Maldini as a techinal director and the board had done brilliant job at transfers.Who would've thought kjaer and zlatan will play exceptioonally well? They'll show us the joy defo.I want sassuolo to get recognition. They deserve it.
He was not better than Bakayoko and Kessie, or even Biglia at that time and wanted to start. I felt sad that he left Milan but he requested the transfer for more playing time. Milan was not a good fit for his growth at that time. Honestly in my opinion he is still not as good as Bennacer or Kessie so he is not going to start for Milan even he stays. I am happy that he is playing good football in Sassuolo though.
Milan should have included buy back option when selling him.
Been saying this for so long that Sassuolo are a small version of Atalanta. The football they play is mesmerizing
have you
Lol both are still relatively small
Sassuolo just have bad defenders for now
I think that “a small version of Atalanta” is Hellas Verona, Sassuolo have similar concepts but the approach is a bit different...
No you haven’t big guy
Sassuolo is definitely not a smaller version of Atalanta in terms of tactics. You could say that about their rise and willingness to commit to the attacking football though.. Sassuolo is better tactically in my opinion even though they lack quality defence. I think a change in personnel at the back would improve their defensive stats massively and there is no better team in Serie at offensive play.. when they go for it and try to score they score 2 or 3 within a matter of 5 to 10 minutes. I really want Roberto De Zerbi to coach a top team now.. I wanna see how his style of play and tactics work at a higher level, competing for Champions league and stuff..
Watching this in 2022, with RDZ now at Brighton, it's clear that they have adopted the same tactics formerly employed at Sassuolo. You can see the same short, crisp passing, the attacking wing play, the goal scoring, and the building confidence in the way Brighton is playing. For sure, RDZ produces a very exciting and aesthetically pleasing style of play: lots of flair and goalscoring.
Don't know whats better, the animation or the voice ❤️
So pleasing and calming to watch TiFo videos
The fallout boy was a nice touch!
Fallout boy?
I'm glad u keep doing videos of Serie A teams. We are far away from Premier League and LaLiga, maybe even Bundesliga, but Italian football is starting to rise again. At least, I hope it will.
Thank you for having mentioned De Zerbi: ha made a brilliant half-season in Benevento in 2017/18. He is a truly good coach, he helped many players like Duricic, Caputo, Boga, and Locatelli to develop their potential and he built up to them mentally. Keep Serie A vids coming, please.
An affectionate Italian fan
You are better than Bundesliga
@Marco Pasini Sorry my friend but in the last 5 years Bundesliga teams has been more consistent in European competitions
Big fan of your serie A vids! Keep them coming.
Mental how true he was
can you make another video about de zerbi in brighton ..?
he is doing amazing job
Welcome to Brighton!
I wanted to ask for a video explaining tactics of Flamengo under Jorge Jesus as they won everything in South America. Even though they are not European team they had a historic season under a manager who was seen as unfavorable for the Brazilian league.
@DEMONIC MACHINE Yeah without any doubt Libertadores final was luck but still it is impressive to see that team win pretty much all of trophies available there!
Flamengo is on another level
Actually managing them in fm this year.
Got into the champions league after first year so it's going well 😁😁
Might need to start watching Serie A highlights
Let’s go!! I love Sassuolo, probably the best looking team in Serie A. I was just waiting for this video
Tifo always know which manager deserves more attention. Welcome to PL!
Same style he applied to brighton. And he shocked the world with it.
I really enjoy to watch Sassuolo this season
Finally !! Can always count on tifo to do analyze the interesting teams
The Brighton board must have watched this video 😅
Always looking forward to seeing the next Tifo video or podcast. Good job lads!
This is gold!!! Must watch. I never seen someone summarize corporate culture very well all in one video. Every thing you said is 100%
Really liking the graphic improvements you guys made.
You guys should start a Coaching academy
that's so smart inviting the press then playing through it risky but still
It depends on how they play the ball upfield, they don’t play high balls because their team is generally of average height (Caputo 5’11” and Obiang 6’1”) so they can’t genuinely compete in the air. So they think about play quick, and with the work ethic of Locatelli and Obiang with of Boga and Berardi this helps them engage in play better given that they are inverted wingers. So there is that , but Toljan and Kyriakopoulos have dynamism and power respectively in their passing so there is that as well.
@@oceanmike8516 so in other words how to beat City
@@ocobsmax3695 more or less
I can say no real Milanista agreed with the decision to sell Locatelli. He was one of my favs after that screamer against Juventus.
Thanks for covering my beloved Sasol ❤️
I was really waiting for Tifo Football's explanation about Sassuolo..Finally video has been uploaded.
Next should be Hellas Verona, amazing work by Tifo, keep up!!
Always waited for this.
I love how teams, especially this season, are progressing not because of star names, but because of tactics. it gives a new dimension to study football and makes fans even more on toes for a possible upset.
the fallout perk and stat effect was beautiful please use it more!!!
It's 2023 we are here
Can you do one of these for cadiz, they've had a few interesting results this season
Great stuff
Welcome to Brighton 💙
Welcome to Shakhtar! 🧡🖤⚒
can you do new de zerbi video? his tactic in brighton is crazy
I was thinking... 'why Tifo doesn't do a Sassuolo profile?'... Thanks for this!
Just like Atalanta, they look great but both teams need to boost their defense too. Others know already how o play against Atalanta and the results this season show it.
good stuff
Serie A as a whole is becoming one of the most exciting leagues to watch
many good teams and players to enjoy watching
Finally tactics explained for sassuolo!!!!
Great video!!! Guys, we need you to cover the Paradox of INTER MILAN this year: or "great players don't make a great team!!!" They can't defend anymore, they can't build-up or play progressive passing (they have a problem creating), and they miss a lot of what is created. They've become reactive, meaning they can't impose or control the game... luckily they have great players with a great mentality so they get back to score in later third of the match>>> reactive. THERE IS A MISTERY WITH CONTE'S INTER. We are dying to get this thing dissected properly !!! Even Conte doesn't seem to get himself out of the situation !!!
Even if other leagues have more talent, there is some really great football being played in Italy. More Serie A videos please! -A Roma fan
Gonna be fascinating to see him transmit his ideas at Shakhtar now.
Can you make a video about AS Roma’s tactics!?
It would be great if you did.
FORZA ROMA!!!
Maybe after we beat Parma this weekend ;)
@@marx145 done deal.
Good job with the Fallout reference. :-D
loved it
Rated them for a while, as they constantly clattered me in fm
im playing as sassuolo on fm20 and finished 4th first season and lost the league on 1 point yesterday, great squad
Can you explain Stuttgart tactics? They always running forward.
i love you tifo
In my opinion Berardi´s Role in Sassuolos Tactics is very unique. He is not playing in the traditional winger Role, instead playing a kind of Raumdeuter like Thomas Mueller. He is constantly able to find spaces other players don´t see and is a key factor in the fluid attacking shape of the team.
most wingers are inside forwards in these days
Obiang ❤❤❤
Boga Berardi and Locatelli will become bonafide stars after this season. I just hope Zerbi gets enough time to implement his philosophy.
Is that a Fallout reference at 0:50?
From 4-2-3-1 and wing backs not going much forward to fewer crosses attempted, it reminds me of ole's man utd . Anyways, never watched sassuolo though, so I might be wrong
Similar structure different style
That fallout graphic was hard
If you are here, because you wanna know what he is doing right at Brighton
in Italy many important journalists are saying that De Zerbi will be the next coach of Napoli. The true successor of Maurizio Sarri, for a new neapolitan tiki taka saga.
Wow he is doing the exact same with brighton
Do a video on why Allegri is still in hiding
Give the man a break

This team is always giving great headache for big teams in Serie A, and has won more than once against big teams.
But I really despise mid-low tier teams in any league who only show up when playing big teams, and against their rivals they play like §hit.
It's because big teams allow more space for them to exploit while mid-lower teams like them park the bus and play on the counter and breaking down teams like that is easier with great differencial player which belong to big teams.
@@euganieldamiao8084 what you said makes sense from a tactical standpoint, also I think it's their mentality that they want to show up against big teams so they play it as if it's the final of the world cup and play with their heart and soul only against big teams, and when they play teams in their level they play like $hit because of the lack of incentive of defeating a big club, which to me is really despicable.
Johan Cruyff said it best: Quality football without results is pointless.
The results he’s referring to is the end goal: Trophies.
Drawing of James horncastle is too much 🥵
A Sasol l'è sèimper festa! Cum al dgiva al Baiàun... dèg tri gol c'sunàm al campanàun!
De Zerbi turned 2017/18 season Benevento in a high-scoring team and he is doing the same (but even better) with Sassuolo. He can adapt his technique with little fundings. He deserves much more recognition.

Brighton fans how you feeling about this one ?
Berardi deserves a big club.
@Anthony Salerno His loss. If he stays at Sassuolo for his entire career he will retire having never won a trophy. Personally, I would love him at AC Milan. There is something to be said for loyalty but there is also something to be said for ambition.
@@Drvol1 a little late now but Berardi actively loves Sassuolo. I think eventually he might move but I think he’s content because he knows he’s the club’s crown Jewel. He personifies what they are about, they develop young talented players who play attacking football. The fact that Berardi now wants to stay is massive for the neroverdi and we love how loyal he’s become.
Maybe soon he will move on but even if he does he will always be remembered as one of the best Sassuolo players ever, along with Francesco Magnanelli
How is Locatelli not at a big club yet?
