How to Check REAR Suspension noise

  • Those pesky squeaks form the REAR suspension of your car can be frustrating to say the least.
    We investigate the source of squeaks on the Dodge Charger and find a pretty easy fix.
    Ensure that you inspect all steering and suspension linkages for wear --specifically any cracked or missing portions and loose connections. If you run in to dry bushings that do not seem cracked --you can typically spray them with some Silla -Lube Spray and thay may do the trick in reducing or eliminating the squeak\s.
    In the case of this Dodge Charger --the shocks & springs were recently replaced with an Eibach spring kit & we inspected a rear shock mount that had separated causing the shaft of the shock and or the rubber separating portion to squeak terribly.

    Very helpful video, thank you. I have a very very similar noise, but it seems that my top strut doesn't have those rubber shock mounts (BMW F20). Just one question: when to start rocking the rear of the car and hear the noise, that immediately tells us that's suspension related (and not brake related), am I correct?

    99 sebring conv, my squeak is at rear somewhere, but AFTER new Monroes, and only after the rear left one, none after rear right one was installed as it was driven around a few mins after the 1st one which was the rear pass side, only after 2nd one on drivers side(used new strut rod bushings on both) and can NOT find with stethoscope at any bushings yet! While driving it will stop as soon as I give it any gas, but let off gas pedal and its ON, like Bangagone, squeak while coasting, braking, bouncing in d way, as long as you want to bounce it, and entire time while driving! (unless u let off gas pedal). Crazy!!

    this vid was very insightful. unfortunately, as you didn't add in the footage AFTER the repair was completed, it leaves me wondering if in fact that was the issue or otherwise. • @jaym48
    @jaym48 Před 3 lety +1

    My 2009 Lincoln MKZ makes a REAR clunking noise even over a small bump at low speed. It sounds like a hollow beer keg was in the trunk; I checked. I bounced on the rear of the car and the shocks seems great and no clunking. Shoved the rear side to side and no clunking. I then opened the trunk, stood inside and jumped up and down like an ape; no clanking noise. Traveling straight at high speeds, normal speeds or making an abrupt stop or "darting out of the gate" there is still no noise; however, when traveling, say, on a long strip of road in a continuous turning direction you can hear slight clanking. The biggest/loudest noise is when the REAR END pulls up over a small bump/driveway -> its like a two large hollow metal bars are bumping and or sliding by on another. The sound is more pronounced when moving forward compared to backing up over the "bump". ANYWAY, I am fairly low IQ guy with respect to car mechanics so, in the rear, I have shock absorbers, struts, sway bar linkage, and bushings??? Is this correct? Anything else that could be contributing to this issue?

    • @Desertcarcare
      @Desertcarcare  Před 3 lety +1

      You laid out some great details here ...may be hard to pinpoint here without actually looking at it ~ but do recommend checking all the links ~ additionally remember that those struts typically have a shelf life of approx 80k ~ they slowly lose their ability to maintain stability and can start making noise ~ don’t stress or guess ~ take it to local shop you trust and have them do an evaluation ~ may be an inexpensive replacement of links ~ hope this helps and sorry this may not really give a solid exact solution ~ good luck !

      @@DesertcarcareI will bring my car down for inspection at lunch time. Again, I take it up to high speeds, make abrupt turns, long continuous turns, and brake / accelerate quickly and its rear handling appears to have no issues. I use to be in good condition until the gyms were mandated rules/ shut downs by the Communist so my belly can't fit too well under the car; however, I was able to note no leaking around the shocks/ball joints, the bushings appeared to be firm (no rubber degradation, and I could not move/wiggle the stabilizer bar to make the noise but, then again, I could not fit properly under the car so I had a poor grip. I just wanted to make sure I did my research so I could educate myself before confronting "the experts". Thanks again for you PROMPT reply. Much appreciated. Have a good weekend,
