This is a clear and concise diagnostic video. I have a 2010 Audi A3 that had an incredibly irritating rattle that was getting louder. I tried to diagnose the problem several times. I could only re-create the noise if I pushed the car side to side very hard with the wheels straight. I visually inspected everything multiple times and grabbed the tie rod for the sway bar and tried to shake it but couldn’t find the problem. Because of this video I took the wheel off another time and checked all the nuts on the shock absorber to discover that the rattle was the upper tie rod nut being loose (even though it didn’t look or feel like it was). Thank you!

Great video !!, for me it was the sway bar bushings and the sway bar links. The rubber covers on the links had tore. And the rubber bushing had wore down on the right side causing movement creating that clunking sound....no more noise, it cost around 350.00 to replace links and one set of two bushings for sway bar. Start there before you start replacing shocks and suspension parts...word to the wise. I hope this comment helps because mechanics want to sell struts and major suspension parts. Find someone who is honest and have a talk with them.

My car suddenly started making this type of noise tonight and I didn’t feel safe driving it. My spouse made me feel so diminished because he was mad about not getting to the restaurant and stated it makes it because of the bumps and it was fine. Drove it back and I just went to the house while he went with our son in his car. He berated me for not caring enough to make an appointment (I need to get rotation and balance AND new set of tires), even though I had three daily alarms and called twice but the offices were closed. Smh. Thank goodness for videos like this to help diagnose and understand the shop when they quote a repair.

If you have an early 2000s Infiniti G35 (and maybe Nissan 350z/370z) this is a very common issue. It happened to me. When I replaced the control arms I replaced the bushings with polyurethane bushings and it looked like they were going to hold up much better or even solve the issue. Unfortunately I totaled the car so now I’ll never know

*Being that everything is new on my suspension with under 500 miles on the parts I'm positive it's the sway bar bushings, or failed sway links ( new they can fail )*

Could you put up a similar video demonstrating the noise coming from worn out stabilizer bar bushes?...would be really helpful as I'm a mechanic myself..

In my experience it is always a squeak when going over speed bumps.

Hi, my A4 B8 had a minor popping noise from driver undercarriage when taking off in a straight path from stationary to gear 2, 3 and 4. I have replaced all the front control arms bushings for your info. Do you suspect the problem to be caused by shock absorbers or something else?

Unfortunately for me, sway bar links and struts didn't fix it yet. Thank you for video. Will look at the bushings on roll bar and ball joints!

Have and a knocking noise in my Vito dualiner sport since I got it in 2008, 160,000 miles later, it is getting more frequent, only on straight bumpy roads, feels like it is just under both footwells, have had it to two different Mercedes garages, and many private garages over the years, and they all tell me its fine, it passes the DOE ,(MOT in UK), every 12 months, never had an issue with it, other than regular servicing every 20,000 miles, the drive shaft was replaced at about 80,000 miles, and I changed all disks last year, simply because of age. On ya, and both window regulators have been replaced.
