I have literally learned more from this video in five minutes than I have watching fifty hours of other suspension diagnostic videos ("uuhhh, what's this clunk-y noise??" - which you can't actually hear over the road noise - followed by twenty uncut minutes of shakily checking the easiest parts to get to with one hand).
Have this guy make more videos please!!

If a mechanic does not go on a thorough test drive and inspect your suspension on a lift then give you his findings , walk away and find another, I had a shop recently move my car literally 10 feet and tell me my engine mounts were bad, It actually was a bad strut mount that was only 8 months old, BEWARE !

what i learned after trying to find what's causing the noise in my 10 years old car: just replace all the suspension parts, it would be much easier. lower arm, absorber, absorber mount, sway bar links and bushings. and if you drive years with busted struts, change the cv axle too because they will definitely went bad.

It’s a Chrysler no surprise the ball joints are bad. I had a Jeep Patriot that needed ball joints every 25,000 miles driving on paved roads. Alot of times front suspension noise can also be front sway bar links. They can make a lot of noise and are pretty easy and cheap to change. They are even really cheap to have changed at the dealership.

TL;DR: Tire lug nuts were loose and making popping noise occasionally when driving.
I just want to thank you for this video from the bottom of my heart. My car kept making a popping noise and i couldn't figure out where it was coming from. It only made the noise when I would go over tiny bumps in the road. I had watched about an hour worth of videos before I found yours. I checked my tire and the lug nuts were loose. Once I tightened them, the noise went away. Thank you so much. You saved me a bunch of money.

After 4 years, my rattle is SOLVED! with 2018 Subaru Forester SJ5 2.0i model rattle at low rpm up hills I have finally found the solution.
It was the MAF sensor for me.
What finally narrowed down the cause was carefully adjusting the throttle input going up hill slowly. At certain points, the CVT engine would simulate a down-shift to compensate for the lower speed, and "shoud" increase RPM, but did not in my case. This caused the engine to run at too low RPM for the required output needed, causing piston knock during this scenario only.
I had also considered the Cat Converter, so I had replaced it just recently (despite only having 69k KM on it). Turned out to not be the issue.
Posting to the YT videos I had bookmarked for this issue to spread out the solution. Maybe others will also see it.
The other common suggestions are heat shield, and timing chain loose, or joint failing. All of these occur at different situations. Only the situation I experienced with low RPM and low speed going up hill produced the sound. Never at idle revving, never on flat roads and never at higher speeds.
Hope it helps others resolve the annoying rattles. The MAF sensor is a fairly inexpensive part luckily, you can get off-brand versions if you prefer. They look identical to the moulding of the OEM Subaru MAF sensor, so I suspect the normal maker markup on an identical item. Good luck to everyone!

My 03 Town and Country began clunking from the front end whenever I turned a curve and would slightly bounce. I couldn't tell exactly where it was coming from UNTIL I saw something fly out from under it and I just barely got it Into a parking lot only to see the right front wheel bowed inwards. The strut mount had been broken for a while. I managed to get it rigged back up Into the hole and carefully limped the van home for repairs.

I have a 2006 buick Lucerne and I have a clunking noise in my right front suspension area when I turn the wheel driving at low speeds (example driving in a parking lot/leaving a parking spot, turning at a stop sign) or if I'm sitting still and turn the wheels. A friend thinks its a CV axle but I dont think it is, I replaced my driver side CV axle a year ago and that made a clicking noise, not a clunking sound. I replaced the outer tie rod, didn't fix it (which was bad anyways). Could it be a strut, lower control arm..?? Really could use some help.

Boy oh boy did you guys choose the most PERFECT car to showcase front end clunking! I've rebuilt the front ends on these types of cars a few times, and they will be good for a couple of years before another new rebuild is needed. On my 2011, the last front end clunk was the sway bar links... cheap ones were replaced with good name brand parts, and no more clunk (for a while). Thanks! ;-)
