- Here is my Mom's recipe for pot bake. This is her personal recipe so I'm happy to share it with you!
Ingredients:
2 cups of all purpose flour
1 teaspoon of salt
1 teaspoon of white sugar
1 teaspoon of instant yeast
4 tablespoons of butter, lard, ghee, oil, vegetable shortening (margarine)
1/2 cup - 3/4 cup of lukewarm water (to make a soft dough)

This is amazing. About 2 months ago I improvised to make a quick bread and I started making some home made bread in a similar way, minus the Crisco. I have been enjoying this for about 2 months before finding your video. I didn't know there was a country making this dish, and that it is called pot bake. I did not learn it from anyone, I just made it on my own and loved it, so I kept making it.
I have to jump on here and say that this recipe is outstanding and near fool-proof! I’ve made it a few times and it came out perfect every time. I mixed this by hand and used Cookeen and I used a mixture of butter and coconut oil in the pan when cooking. Real comfort food. Thank you.
Hey everyone! Pot bake has always been a favourite of mine. Mom always made this for breakfast during my primary and secondary school years.
This is her personal recipe that she has played around with and made it her own.

Thank you so much for the pot bake recipe. I got two small bakes from the recipe but I could have made I thick bake instead as my pot is larger than the one you used. I followed the instructions with the exception of using Cookeen in the pot. I used a little bit of Canola oil. The finished product was crispy on the outside but cooked and soft on the inside. Perfect. I will certainly use this recipe again. Great video.

My grandmother used to make this with coconut. She used the milk to knead the flour and added some of the grated coconut in the dough. Eat it hot with some Kerrygold butter and cheddar cheese.

good one taste of trini...i made pot bake last weekend with my mother in law.... we used coconut milk and a little bit of the husk.... turned out great... give it a try next attempt...and yeah we did both yeast and baking powder....great video...keep up the good work. haters gonna hate.

When I make bake I add ground flax, mixed nuts & sometimes I add grated coconut.
I use warm milk instead of water & make
6 - 8 rolls like (Thomas's Muffins).
That's my sandwiches for work.

My Mom made it in the oven in a pot and thicker. Thanks for sharing. 👍😘
My dad did too. He mixed the dough by hand threw it in a cast iron frying pan and shaped it to the pan put a lid on it and baked it in the oven. All my family my grammar and uncles and aunts did it this way. My grammar would have called it a large fry bake done on the stove. But this recipe looks very good will be making it.

Great recipe. I quite like the alternative method of roasting the bakes directly on an open coal fire. Of course you have to monitor the roasting process closely, to ensure that it cooks evenly and also to prevent charring.

I was looking at your roast bake my mom was from Paramain she and her family makes the best roast bake its supposed to be thicker than that, you can even bake it in the oven. coconut bake is delicious also.

@Taste of Trini - can we use cocunit milk instead of water? My mom travelled to Trinidad all the time - I remeber when she made bake....wth the buljol! Loved it! Similar to our ackee & saltfish with fried dumplig
I know this as ROAST BAKE. When my granny used to make it in Trini we'd eat it straight off the heat, sliced open with some cheese. Oh the memories!

Thank u very much for the recipe. I've made it & it was perfect. Though I'm not a native to the Caribbean, but we do have a similar bread in my part of the world. U can add your own favorite flavours or seeds to the dough as well.
