I just rewatched all of Steven universe again and their is one think that keeps annoying me I don't understand how Connie can even hold up against pearl and other gems/gem mutations (not the holograms the actual Pearl) Connie is a young adolescent human girl, Pearl is an alien with better strength, agility, reflexes, combat ability and combat experience. Even if Connie is skilled because she is trained by Pearl, why didn't the gems train early humans to help them fight in the gem war. Is Pearl holding back on Connie or are the gems skills over hyped.

Based on informations and the image on the mirrol(however you spell it): It was an accident
Maybe Rose convinced the others or only Pink Pearl to let her get near Pink Diamond only to poof her with her SWORD, in hopes to take her hostage to end the gem war. She did as planned and everyone (including Eyeball) saw her poofing Pink, she picked up Pink's gem to bubble it but White (or Yellow, but I'll go with White bc of the color in the mirrol) Diamond arrived at this exact moment and attacked Rose immediatly. It was happening so fast that Rose used Pink Diamonds gem as a shield out of reflex and the enormous force of White (/Yellow) Diamond's attack ended up shattering Pink Diamond. "Only a diamond can cut a diamond", White or Yellow's attack shattered Pink, but Rose was technically the one who caused the shattering. So the witnesses and Eyeball blamed Rose bc she attacked Pink Diamond in the first place.
Edit: I know it's not a answer to the "why"-question, but I had this theory for months and wanted to share it :/

Only diamonds can *scratch* other diamonds. Many things can break them but this fact doesn't prove your theory wrong.

But why would she step outside the Palanquin? Also, why would she even need to shatter herself? She could simply get rid of her physical form and not worry about leadership, while still existing comfortably in her gem state.

I have the feeling that Yellow Dimond assinated Pink Dimond so she could have her super weapon though it would destroy Earth its self in the process. And after the assination to prevent more loss of life, Rose took the blame to prevent a greater scale war that would end with a huge and uncomprehencable number of casualties.

My theory is Pink Diamond was, at first, doing what Diamonds do, conquer worlds and use them as a jump point for their own race (the gems). But then she started to like the Earth as it was, with everything on it, maybe even seeing Rose's view point and wanting to preserve it instead of terraforming it. White Diamond heard about this and confronted her about her changing viewpoint most likely ending in what Peridot said to the corn in "Gem Harvest", "I made you in my image. You will do as I say."
Pink Refused, White shattered her.

What if pink diamond was never shattered? What if she was only poofed and bubbled. Then her pearl was to keep her safe as an order from her. She told the other pearls and they were shocked! Then with the he help of the other pearls, they covered it up and Pink pearl was never heard from again. Possibly still with her diamond hidden on earth.
Why I think this could be
Pink diamond *WAS* not cut out to be a diamond, and she knew it! She thought she could just hide and her sisters would just take care of everything.

Think about it, it was white diamond, because she is clearly of higher rank then pink diamond since she's the ruler of homeworld, so when pink diamond saw white come, pink came out of her palaquin and after that, white shattered pink, and pink's subordinates saw it all and then white erased all of pink's subordinate's memories of the event and then replaced it with white shattering pink to rose quartz shattering pink instead, to get away with this crime.

Just to add to what you were saying! Blue Diamond is also another diamond that shows much sympathy towards organic life, and you can solely tell this by her interaction with Greg. She briefly states that she is surprised that a human could think on a level similar to hers and tell him he "doesn't deserve to die" when she explains there is a geoweapon on Earth, and she takes him to put him where he would be safe: The Human Zoo. Blue has MUCH love and adoration for Pink Diamond and the two MUST share some sort of similar thinking, considering they both carry a trait of compassion for organic life.
BUT! The newer episodes both confirm and contradict this. We see Pink briefly interacting with Yellow in a dream state. We can gather from Yellow's phone conversation that she makes it a point to state "She doesn't care if there's organic life on the planet, it's a conquest, etc." and tells the Nephrite on the phone to carry out the plans anyway meaning she DOES not share a similar thinking to Pink. But that's IF Pink even has a compassionate side. We can gather from Pink's dialogue that she is self-entitled and spoiled, so there IS a possibility that the Human Zoo really is just a trophy case and she takes care of them because nobody wants to show off dead captors.
Either way, Pink and Yellow don't see eye to eye on a lot of things and it seems way more than coincidental that we can see Blue's immense longing and love for Pink from first glance but.. Yellow's disdain and Pink''s awful memory as their first glance. If either of the gems are responsible for Pink's Death it would be a regretful Yellow or an unfeeling White.
but Blue Diamond is not usually any different than any of the other Diamonds! she was also killing life off other planets to take them over! so she wouldn't usually care so much about a human ! ! ! ! !

Remember in “The Trial” when the blue defense gem was talking about how it made sense that only another diamond would be able to get pink diamond out of her tent? And then yellow diamond when BIZZARLEY OUTRAGED while blue diamond flinched with tears in her eyes at the thought, BUT did you notice that yellow diamonds cheek color very slightly changed it barley even changed shade but she blushed. Do you know what that means? YELLOW DIAMOND MURDERED PINK DIAMOND. She also influenced blue diamond not to feel sad about her being shattered and she also looked away showing that she regreted killing her due to the traumatic affect it gave to blue diamond. She was all about shattering and rage while pink was the opposite yellow was against humans and pink was not they were natural opposites yellow diamond killed her bc it would get her higher rank blue would be corrupted and she would be in charge. Maybe Pink jumped between rose and yellow, getting shattered. So yellow blames rose for pink's death.
Can you blame Yellow? Yellow seems more militaristic compared to Blue. To her, the trial is really a formality. Maybe she was told by someone higher up that's reliable that Rose shattered Pink. So for all intents and purposes, the trial was just a waste of time and she wanted the one responsible held accountable. In addition, she was probably angry with grief over Pink.
I feel like Blue was told, but since she's more in tune with her emotions (thus her power) she uses her anger in a way to find out the truth. Or maybe she knew Pink more intimately and saw something wrong in whoever's accounts of her death. Thus she sought the trial and Rose Quartz's (or Steven in this case) account to find answers.

I actually have a theory regarding WHY Pink created Rose Quartzes. I think they were specifically designed to be caretakers of the human zoo. If Rose is anything to go by, the Rose Quartz gem is very human in certain aspects; curious, drawn to the idea of change, and even sharing a similar skin pigment. They would be ideal matriarchal figures to care for the zoomans, with the ability to heal them and protect them. That may be why the Rose Quartzes are bubbled within the zoo, as that was where they were stationed in the first place.
What if... pink diamond wanted to be shattered and that's how she was killed easily but everyone else thought it was through malace, hence the depictions
There are too many theories and too little facts we have as of now; YEllow/White betrayed her, or Blue went on a rampage and did it accidentally, or Pink actually was evil and White had to put her down or, what will likely happen, Pink decided to frame her own murder/suicide. I feel like I am only one who wants Pink to be actually evil and violent while White is pretty cool and chill.

With your new speculation about Pink Diamond's nature, part of me now wonders if humans may have even indirectly started the rebellion and Gem War. What is a thing many humans do when they're dissatisfied? Revolt, riot and rebel. So humans "not taking too kindly to being captive" may have driven Pink Diamond and her servants to learn how to care for and appease the humans since the methods for keeping Gems under control wouldn't work on them.
Some gems (including possibly Rose Quartz) may have observed this and been exposed to the foreign concept of defiance and protesting for better rights and treatment, which would tear Gem society's system of absolute authority apart.
