- YEAH Controversial statement, I know!
But it's been bugging me that I have to reexplain my reasoning behind this too many times, so I figured I'd make a video about it.
There were too many scenes that pushed the idea of Pink not being gone, and then to suddenly shove her off puts Steven in a bad position.
We're stuck in a loop of Steven having to put up with Pink Diamond's past. Bad guy comes to kill Steven because of his mother, and Steven ends up forcing friendship on them to reform them. It's just too repetitive and predictable, which is why after the White Diamond fiasco Steven Universe fans have started to lose interest.
(Steven Universe Future is doing this again btw, more "Pink Diamond Was Bad" plotlines that we see coming from a mile away.)
I still love SU though, and I'm gonna see it through until the end!
But I swear if I see another "Didn't you hear Pink Steven say She's Gone" comment I'm gonna lay down and hibernate for the next four months

My theory was/is that when Steven was hit by the Rejuvenator, it did reset his gem back to Pink Diamond. However, we don't see the effects until SU Future. Pink's Destructive Powers from her earliest form are now literally shining through Steven and the longer it goes, the more corrupted Steven gets. Not every gems have layers, pearl have layers of her cause real pearls have phisical layers.
As diamonds being the hardest thing we know, they should be unshatterable (or hardly).
Every gems have her particularity, based on phisical facts, or myths.
In the lore they act like mini super computer so the data of rose form may still be here as of some of here souvenirs, but I thinks it's more like the way file you erase from a storage are still accessible some how.
She's gone, but there still some of her memories inside, cause her gems is still the same gems her power didn't change, her gem goes for all her form before reforming because it's the way gems works. Loading everything chronologicaly, but as her forms and memories are still stored, her mind is gone.
It may or may not be restored by hack, but we're not here.
I think when steven was hit by the Rejuvenator, it did reset his gem back to Pink Diamond. The reason she didn't come, was because Stevens human half made it impossible. That's why his gem was glowing pink. Pink Diamond was trying to form, but couldn't.

I agree with you that Rose is WAY to demonized by the fanbase. Her character development is fascinating and the implications of Steven's feelings about her being reflective of her own feelings about herself are wild.
It doesn't help because the show kept reveling terrible things about her
If the show had revealed everything about PD and then showed how she changed and made up for her mistakes to make the show wrap back around to why the crystal gems loved her it would have been wonderful
That’s why It always bugged me how they revealed her character development backwards. Lots of people will think that In the end Rose was just a shitty person, and yet they Don’t call out Garnet,amethyst and pearl for the way they raised steven, Or how the diamonds were so easily forgiven despite the fact it’s because of their abuse that pink faked her own shattering, The irony is that in the end, Rose was the most human out of them all, She made mistakes and learned from them, just like all of us.
She's demonized cause we see her character development in reverse. Its just easier to hate her cause we see her villian like tendencies last which makes it more fresh.

My theory:
Steven has always _almost_ suffered PTSD and Depression due to his "adventures", but because of Rose always _loving_ him, those mental disorders were never really a problem. But when Spinel rejuvenated Steven, Rose stopped _loving_ Steven because she was probably inexistant at that point, and now the mental disorders Pink held back are now rushing in Steven's mind.
On a sidenote, people with depression intentionally reject the love of their loved ones, but due to Pink being subconsciously attached to Steven's mind, he couldn't reject her affection so thats neat.
You make a very good point. However, the movie showed every gem being able to "overcome" rejuvenation and regain their memories. I assume that when Steven regained his powers, it was implied that his gem returned to the way it was at the beginning of the movie. Thus, Rose's "memories" and love for her son would've been reestablished as well. None of the gems suffered lasting effects from rejuvenation, so there's no reason to think that Steven's gem would, either.

Even back in season 1 when the room first glitched, the small pink floating whale asks Steaven "What do you want Steven?" when he's falling in distress, IN HER VOICE! It's obvious she has some control over her room

She also says "we can't BOTH exist" which is why I theorise Steven has one, mixed human-rose nature, not two seperate human-rose nature
when he gets hit, his gem is glowing a little bit, and he said his gem tried to poof but his human body kept it from doing so. when a gem poofs, it later reforms, so had he poofed, he wouldve gone back to pink, but steven is also human, and now steven in recent episodes has pink's emotions actions and powers like she first did, the emotional outbursts and feeling like she cant do anything, compared to the others around her (as seen when she had her temper tantrum at yellow when asking for a colony too, and well steven now in SUF showing the exact same behavior), etc, so my theory is, his gem DID in fact go back, but because theres his body, pink is STUCK.
Yeah, as if Pink Diamond couldn't go through re-forming into Rose Quartz again, and go through giving birth to and 'becoming' Steven. When it was supposed to shut off, it was seen glimmering and producing electric sound. That's because like you said, it was stuck with the fleshy form of a human body, and so couldn't poof. The Steven was able to go back through his whole life, and get his abilities back; the Pink part was not able to experience Pink's decisions that SHE'D made throughout her life.

"Steven has always been Steven" meaning every choices Steven made was all base on steven's feelings and thoughts. How he react, symphatize, and see the best in everything is part of his personality. It might have resembles rose's personality as other gems pointed out but it was purely part of steven's personality.
The only reason why pink steven said "She's gone" to white diamond is because Pink was no longer the one in control of the gem. The one who was in control was steven. The form that the gem accepted was the form of Steven, that is why when White diamond pulled out Steven's gem it form as Steven not as Pink Diamond or Rose Quartz.
Pink existance was nothing but a memory of its past. But it doesn't mean it never existed after Pink lost her PHYSICAL FORM. It shown that Steven was able to dream Pink's memories and suffering as he kept stumbling to places where his mother was once.

The purpose of the Rejuvenator is to RESET a GEM to its original form. You can't hide the fact that Steven's gem original form was Pink Diamond so it was meant to reform back as Pink Diamond.
That is why they ended up creating this kind of THEORY after the rejuvenator accident. Because Steven and Pink are 2 different people that share the same gem. Steven didn't turn back because he's half human and was able to keep his memory but what really happened to his gem's half where he can only explain "it feels as if I was back when I was a kid again"

That was definitely Pink. She isn't Steven, obviously but she IS his gem half, because that was literally her gem, and I believe the, "SHE'S GONE!" line was Pink's way of saying, "Stop trying to bring me back, this gem belong to Steven now and you need to treat him as his own person."
Steven is half human, half gem in the sense that his physical body is human, but the gem is what holds him together and basically allow him to leave, hence why he was so weak and fragile when his gem was removed. It's kind of like his battery.
When Rose said they couldn't both exist, she meant that Steven wouldn't be able to survive without the help of the gem to keep him alive. So if his gem were removed, even through Rose would be able to reform, steven wouldn't be able to last.
The truth is, once Steven dies and his human half is gone, all that's left will be the gem, and Rose would be able to come back. Maybe you can argue that the gem is powerful enough to keep him alive despite his human flaws, so he'd be technically immortal. But regardless, even through Steven is NOT his mother, she IS a part of him, and an important part at that.

Pearl having “layers” is actually a reference to how real pearls are created, in layers. This could very well be a pearl specific gem ability. We can’t assume every gem is able to do this. Nothing wrong with the rest of the with the theory but there are some holes...
Exactly. Pearls are made by layering a coating repeatedly on an irritant inside an oyster.
Only sandstone and rocks made by sandstone being compressed are similar in geology terms, I believe. Most gems are formed without a layering process, and are solid throughout.
The earlier forms showing on reformation is a great visual, and probably reflective of old data and update info, but we have not been shown that other gems can access inner layers of themselves.
I think Larimar is the only gem besides Pearl shown to pull a non-weapon item out of her gem, and that was very recently during Ruby's scouting lesson. I totally could be wrong there, but it stood out to me as I don't recall other gems doing the same thing. Pearls are made to carry stuff, right?
You are correct but we see the that in the movie the different forms of each gem (layers) are retained in the gem but maybe not as complex as pearls layers
I see what you mean, but we can’t assume that it is an ability that only pearls have because they never explicitly say it. I like the idea of that being a reference to how real pearls are made, but no one in the show (or the creators) says whether it is or isn’t, so it’s not really fair to make that assumption. Also, if it were an ability only for pearls the rejuvenator wouldn’t make a lot of sense on any other gem besides a pearl. If other gems didn’t have “layers”, then there would be no initial layer for them to start back at.

As for the Rejuvenator, all Gems are created with programming that tells them what they can do, there's no "initial layer" the Rejuvenator is more like a Factory Reset.

The reason that the reguvenator reset his gem to young pink Steven, is that it counts as a factory defualt, the womb acting like a gem's kindergarden. Steven's birth put pink Steven's base code where Pink's base code was, and moved her base code to an inactive subfolder in the same main folder.

While the diamonds abusing pink diamond does explain pink diamonds behavior, it does not justify it. Although, I do agree, the diamonds should get way more backlash for the way they treated Pink

but imagine if steven did take a violent approach and did not try to "redeem" them. if they had been poofed, or even shattered, it would come with major repercussions from homeworld itself. not all the gems would just listen to them being free and to not attack. it would've just started a new war, with not just pink being shattered but the whole diamond authority

I dont think Steven has disowned her but he's had enough about hearing all she's done.
I hope that at one point in the series Steven returns to the room, and since steven’s gem seems to have some autonomy over the room, rose will appear and they’ll have a meaningful conversation. Alternatively, maybe when Steven gets corrupted only the gem will be corrupt, and gem-less human Steven will have to deal with it. Then, after steven’s gem half is uncorrupted, there’ll be a confrontation there.

tdgdfhfdgh THIS! You literally expressed so many ideas that I have in the past. I'm pretty sure I've said the exact words "her data is still on there" before. But I totally agree, Gems are 100% USBs/Mini Supercomputers, and her data was just stored away. That is the only way to explain all the visions, as you mentioned, as well as all of Rose's character traits that Steven exhibits. 'Rose's Scabbard' even implies Rose can see things through Steven's eyes, although maybe not in a conscious way for either of them. Thematically she's still gone, because unlike actual computers you can't hack a Gem, at least not that we've seen. So that data is inaccessible.
Addressing the rejuvenator plot hole, my headcanon about how Steven's powers work is that Rose becoming Steven was essentially her poofing, and then as he grew she was reforming inside his body, but at a fraction of the speed a normal Gem would because her physical form was intermixing with his organic biology. The reformation was 'complete' shortly before the events of the series, which is why Steven's powers start manifesting after that. This would also explain why he looked a certain age for so long; as soon as the reformation finished, it kind of locked his biology in place. I think baby Steven could call on the power, but it wasn't all there for him to use.
How does this explain the rejuvenator issue? I think when it finished reforming, it changed the way the software operates on the gem in order for it to interface with organic biology better. That's why Pink Steven seemingly has little personality, and can't control its powers. So while the appearance of Pink and Rose's silhouette in 'Change Your Mind' show the data is still on there, I don't think it's the default setting anymore; how the gem was when Steven first got his powers is.

My theory is that when a gem is first born she needs to form her body first and then her feelings, personality, etc. The gem needs time to form, but when Steven was born, Pink's gem didn't have the time to reset and be Steven fully so all the series Steven's gem was fucked up because of that. However, when White pulls his gem out, his gem now has the time to fully form into its new identity, (Pink Steven) so when the gem fuses with Steven again, Steven now has full acces to all his powers, including Pink's tantrums and the TV signal manipulation that we saw in Future.
And the movie rejuvenator problem is easy to answer, its possible that Steven's gem was reverted to his baby state, but human Steven didn't because the weapon doesn't work on humans, so when human Steven try to use his powers while the gem was in a very early state, made Steven's body act that way because he was draining the few energy the gem had

Steven literally sees Pink’s memories when he’s in places of great emotional importance to her (the Moon Base, Jungle Moon, her palace). This could not happen if Rose wasn’t in there in some form or another.
With this theory, it could also give the song ``love like you`` a whole new perspective. A song sang by Rose who is watching over the best decision she has made, her child being himself, silently giving Steven love and support from inside the gem deeply hidden.
I think pink steven was glitched because he was fuse with human Steven, so only his powers were failing.

To be honest, I doubt that Steven will die. Maybe when he get's older he will connect to his youthful mind again and stay forever a certain age by choice? And going by the theory in the video, pink and pink Steven would still be in the gem equally. It would probably get complicated. Just my thoughts at least but you never know.
Steven isn't an embodiment of light.... He's literally organic. He's literally human. Pink can't pop out of her gem like "Ight, I'm back!"...
(Also, Pink's redemption was Rise Quartz, this show is about mostly love, forgiveness, and moving on.)

He had to deal with blind loyalists, angry rebels, and gem citizens while exploring Homeworld.

People call me crazy when I say that Pink Diamond/Rose Quartz is my favorite character, because the entire fandom and even the crewniverse themselves demonize her. But she's by far the most interesting and important character in the show.
I unfortunatelly don't think they'll bring her justice, as the show is way too close to its end, but I really, REALLY hope that in the end they'll bring her up and stop making her the villain that she isn't.

I never understood why people hated Pink Diamond/Rose so much. She did horrible things but she had good intentions. She was heavily abused by the other Diamonds, put away when she "misbehaved", put down for things she liked or did. People like freakin' Azula from ATLA even though she's committed terrible crimes, because she was a fourteen year old girl abused and shaped by her family and war. Pink Diamond is a way more sympathetic character

My personal theory on how the rejuvenator affected Steven. It did reset his gem to Pink Diamond, but it's also currently embedded inside an organic body. A gem's body is made of light(yet some how solid). Steven's gem already has a body and doesn't need to create it's own. However, this body has a consciousness that is not within the gem, so the gem has no control. So, essentially, Pink Diamond is restored, but not her form because there's already a form that's not going away. The other gems all reform, but Pink Diamond can't.
Basically, Steven's gem was reverted back to Pink Diamond, but she can't reform like the others because there's already a body(Steven).
I hope this made sense.

I actually always think Pink Diamond’s consciousness was still alive in her gem and possibly Steven’s mind too. The first Rose room episode shouldn’t have Steven know his mom’s voice yet if I’m correct but her voice popped in his mind somehow. I think the tape episode was the first time he heard his mom’s voice.
I think this stuff is going to build up to her meeting Steven for real in her true form. One of the show’s original ideas for the show was for Pink/Rose to talk to Steven whenever it was important when he passed out or fell asleep but would wake up with a flower bed growing around him.

I know this video was made prior to Future, but I definitely think the closure Steven NEEDED in his character arc was just... to talk to his mom again. Or to find something of hers, just, something regarding her. A lot of his trauma came from her, and I feel like Future didn’t really highlight that the way I THOUGHT it was going to highlight that. Maybe a scene of Steven watching the video of his mom, one last time. Him talking to his dad about her. Idk... something??? But nope...

This was always my interpretation of that scene to be honest, and it made sense given their hug at the end.
Pearl's actually have layors in them. I'm not sure if Diamonds have layors but that episode had Pearl facts in there.

So gems, like in a human's "chakras" and layers of mind, also have 12 "dimentions", if not 7 predominantly, accessible ones? Pink Diamond might also be his "alter"?
If she really were entirely gone, then Steven wouldn't be have visions of being her, or having her tantrum pop out against his will. I really think it's a possibility that she might still be there. But there's only 4ish episodes left, so I doubt they would have the time to put it in. Then again though, it's not a lot of episodes for Steven to resolve his own PTSD, either. High hopes for the capability of the SU team! They have delivered so far and have given no reason to disappoint.
Steven seems to have spent Future denying he's similar to his mother when a character makes the connection. Rather than for Pink to outright return, this might be more of a familial problem. Steven doesn't want to hear he's like his mother, but he has to face the reality that he has some of her traits.
Hot take: Pinks power is rejuvenation. Rejuvenation could be viewed as healing, as it could take away PTSD or any painful memories. When she turned into rose, the power changed to straight healing when her thoughts about earth and her thoughts about having a colony changed.
I like to think the rejuvenator doesn't so much do a factory reset, but more reverses the order of the "files." Considering all the data from their past is still in there, they just had to be reminded. Then they reform, going through every form/file until they finally get back to their original surface form.
Steven's gem changed from when it was his mom's, that why it don't work like as you said stil containing Pink's data.

That analogy still leaves room for much of Pink to exist. When you repartition a drive most of the original data remains on the disk, their blocks are just marked 'empty' by the new file table to eventually be overwritten. You can avoid this by zeroing out a drive, but with the occasional Pink Diamond memory popping up I think we can assume that wasn't done.
Considering Steven has only been forming memories for less than 18 years vs Pinks thousands I think it's safe to say Yellow Diamond was right when she said "Your memories are in there somewhere"
Yes but there is an OS partition and an other partition.
The memories are in the other partition every of them may be still not overwritten, but the OS may be already overwritten.
Two OS that occupe the same space one overwrite the other completely, on the other partition, the photo data are still here slowly overwritten over the year.
There may be an immense amount of free space in the gem but the OS partition on a 2To or 40Go HDD is still the same.

The torch is passed! Obviously, there's no evidence for how this would work in *SU* or *SUF,* but just ask yourself "WHAT IF?" Steven's already proved the impossible can be done before.
There was absolutely no precedent anywhere prior in gem history that a gem and a human could have a hybrid offspring. NONE whatsoever. Yet, Steven was born. He changed everything.
Not just through his actions & character, but through his very existence. It was completely new territory for everyone (Pink/Rose included), and his powers haven't been 100% consistent.
The rules for how his gem works have changed direction multiple times throughout, based on circumstance, new information, or rules simply being bent or retconned for plot.
Yes, Steven almost died when White separated him from his gem but that was BY FORCE. What if there were a way Steven could pass it on naturally of his own will (NOT like a kidney stone)?
If we could get even just a short animated epilogue episode to confirm this, there's no question that the crew could hypothetically come up with a way to make it work if they wanted.
It wouldn't be hard. The end-result would be Steven/Pink's powers being passed down to his & Connie's child. He/she would become the new future hero while Steven is left fully human.
As for whether he'd retain any gem traits (Ex- Superhuman strength), I couldn't say. But biologically, he'd be entirely organic now and age like a normal human, same as Connie.

This idea makes sense at first, but you’re kind of assuming that all gems have the same structure as Pearl and that the Subpearls have autonomy and memory of their own, instead of all being just files containing only specific information. None of the subpearls except the last really responded to Steven in a meaningful way, and Surface!Pearl apparently had something to do with this, since she orchestrated it so that Steven could learn about Pink. Saying that OG Pearl stole the phone isn’t correct at all.
Pearl is/was a mess, she literally mentions that she compartmentalizes things obsessively. In a gem like Amethyst or Garnet, all of the subamethysts or subgarnets might be the same, because they don’t have the same need to put their trauma in a box. And that’s assuming they would even have the same interface as a gem built specifically to be a PDA for their superior. And just because they retain the forms doesn’t mean that the consciousness for it still exists, at least not necessarily.
All of this is supported by the movie, which I think you misunderstood. Spinel KNEW and ACCEPTED that Pink was gone. If Spinel thought Pink would come back, she wouldn’t need the injector, because what’s the point of destroying a planet that Pink wouldn’t care about anymore? Her plan was to inflict death by karma by having the friends that “stole” Pink from her forget everything about her, to make it so that she was Pink’s only friend. Steven didn’t revert back to a baby because to do that, he shapeshifts. A power that would be deactivated. It’s not like being a baby is his base form and he’s always projecting a bigger body. The reason he got exhausted was because he was over exerting himself.
It just seems like you read that Spinel vs Pink comic and got really salty that it wasn’t canon.

Remind me how memories of pink diamond translates to her being alive? It could’ve just been white diamond. Plus the memories that didn’t include white usually were in a moon base. Never have we seen steven have a memory outside of a moon base that is outside of white diamonds vision. The memory in the palace with volleyball pearl is possible as white diamond had vision of what volleyball remembered as she whitewashed her.

Noo you forgot about the tiny floating whale! That was the first time we heard Rose's voice, and she was asking Steven what he wants. There's literally no way that wasn't her talking to him, especially because there was really no other reason for the whale to have her voice.
The problem is the room and the gem that Steven had, we’re kind of incompatible, as far as processor and data storage, The gem had really really high data storage and the room had really low data storage. If they were both the same or if the room was higher then technically and actually I think this would’ve happened anyways pink diamond would’ve been able to properly help out Stephen throughout his childhood but you know I except for the diaper changes but you get the idea.

I feel like the authorial text vs a read of a text issue is the better way to deal with the issue you have up front in the video. You can bypass the need to address what the authors of the show (the crewniverse) meant to say and just point out that New Criticism is a really accessible way to read a text. New Critical analysis forgoes trying to draw conclusions about the author from their work, instead holding that if we wanna know about the author we need to examine them directly, and thus liberates readers and commentators to just talk frankly about how they view the text itself. In fact, tying into the post-modern reading of texts that New Criticism and Death of the Author we could even talk about the "ghost" of Rose Quartz, who in turn carried the "ghost" of Pink Diamond. Not that they are actual undead spirits that haunt Steven and go "boo!" but a haunting like how a person leaves forensic traces of themself where ever they go.
Pink Diamond is dead; Rose Quartz killed her. But still the ghost of Pink Diamond haunts that gemstone that is part of the essential being of Steven Universe. He cannot exercise that spirit any more than he can escape his own flesh. I wish I was good at editing and had Steven Universe on DVD so I could make the video essay "Haunted Gems: a Fusion of 'The Spectre of Marx' and 'Steven Universe'". If someone takes this idea, they must link to my twitter in the video description or otherwise I will be upset.
On the note of "I came to take my revenge on a bunch of strangers": I think the line more means that she was angry that some part of Pink Diamond, some part she never got to know, is was allowed to be a liberator and a hero, while she was forgotten. She knows Steven is only a relative of Pink Diamond. She knows that killing Steven's human flesh would just mean a new Pink Diamond (the one who never wronged her) would be formed who was just as blameless as everyone else. But Spinel chose to do evil with the knowledge that it was evil.
On the terms of "why does Steven revert weirdly", his existence as a sort of "Gem, but with biological traits" is a key part of the story. Steven has a brain, organs, and other biological elements that are totally unlike another Gem. I kinda just accept that reverting his Gemstone would be less like returning him to his "factory default" and more like a major desync between his twin natures (if you have ever tried to author multi-threaded code, this metaphor makes more sense). Steven probably gets a lot of perks from his bodily fluids being innately keyed to try to "heal" him; he might even have something like Wolverine and Deadpool in terms of self-healing powers.
I think your idea of seeing a story where Pink Diamond is not just a spirit haunting Steven is really fertile ground for the larger narrative of the show. If the show runners (or fan comic/animators) ever did an episode where Connie or some other character needs to delve into "The Heart of Universe" by entering Steven's gem like how Steven entered Pearls, then that would be an excellent time to have Pink Diamond say she regretted who she was to Spinel, the Pearls, and other Crystal Gems. It would be a great epilogue to the story of Rose Quartz and Pink Diamond if that persona would out right say "It's a better world, where I am a part of Steven Universe, and I would choose to be a part of him than my own thing again. I was too slow to grow up, and he is more mature than I was" or something to convey that idea.
Please see Jaques Derrida's Specrtre of Marx or other derivatives there in if the haunting conceptdoes not make sense. These ideas did not get names until 1993 so the disseminating of them into common English is really hard to work on.

Where did you get the 'Not all gems have layers' from?
From what we know, Pearl's layers are represented through her reformations, and the other gems when reforming shift between their reformations. Therefore we can see that every gem we've seen reform on screen has layers, making your assumption that not all gems have layers random and proof-less.

The main problem I have with the whole ‘Pink Diamond is still alive inside Steven’s gem’ theory is that, yeah, it makes logical sense...
But then you remember that Steven Universe is not a story that runs on logic, but emotions and metaphors.
Let’s be real, a lot of the lore in Steven Universe is based heavily on metaphors and double meaning. I am NOT going to debate the effectiveness of this storytelling approach, I’m just acknowledging that it is there.
And from a metaphorical standpoint, Steven’s whole deal with his Mom has a few not-too-subtle parallels to transgenderism or, at the very least, some kind of dysphoria. People constantly referring to him by a prior identity, having all kinds of expectations for him based off that identity, trying to gain the old identity back, refusing to acknowledge the new identity, the true self, at all because it’s not who _they_ know.
And Steven has long struggled with his own identity issues purely because of how everybody compares him to his mom, who he _used_ to be and being utterly confused why they just can’t have Rose or Pink back. Why Steven just can’t flip a switch and become Pink again or bring Pink out of his gem.I can’t speak for myself, because I am not dysphoric, but it does seem rather similar to accounts made by dysphoric people during their attempts to find themselves.
The whole ‘SHE’S GOOOOONE!!!’ moment, for me at least, is Steven finally getting sick and tired of everybody telling him who he’s supposed to be instead of who he is. Like a trans person getting upset that everybody around them only refers to them by their dead name.
Suddenly making it so that Pink was secretly alive in Steven’s gem the whole time, thus validating everyone who ever got on Steven’s case comparing him to his mom, treating them as interchangeable at best or refusing to acknowledge Steven’s existence at worst because Pink is just waiting for the right circumstances to stop hiding and just come out of her gem already.
It just seems like... It would dilute the message a little.

I think it would have worked if Spinel removed Steven's gem, then hit it with the rejuvinator. The reason Pink did not re-emerge was because of Steven's bio-matter blocked it from doing so.

She said whenever hes happy and such that's her loving him tho it seems they decided to turn her into life juice for his human body. Tho why that means she doesn't exist anymore idk.
Pearls are formed by adding layers upon layers upon layers whenever a clam has a piece of junk stuck in its mouth. Kinda like a sore.
Most every other gem that's been used in Steven Universe is literally just an element, or a compound. Diamonds? Carbon, and for the colors you add a bit of other elements getting trapped between the carbon bonding with itself.
While I don't remember many other gem compounds, since it's been a while since I seriously studied both gemology and geology. Unless we get "Limestone" or "Sandstone" as a brand new Crystal Gem. We wouldn't see a new gem species that is naturally built in layers.
That's actually why the pearl inception works. Because her biggest issue is, for both Volleyball and our Pearl. They repress, shove things deeper and deeper, and out on a facade for their master. That's why when Mega Pearl became a thing it wad beautiful. Because the one stuck in the past, and the one hell bent on making the future happen, could come together and realize "We're both hurt because Pink was a jerk to us in different but similar ways".
So while the theory that Steven could ACCESS his mother's file. He wouldn't be able to do that by going inside of his gem. That's just not how a Diamond would work, or even a Quartz for that matter before the reveal that he's a diamond. The theory presented about the room, or other ways to project data, that's probably how they'd be able to do it.
The rejuvinator angle could have also worked if Pink Steven wasn't the new factory reset given by the movie. We know this because of the fact that even if the gem tanked the hits. It didn't defuse with Steven.

Steven isn’t a full gem he’s a half gem so gem tech never worked on him completely. Just like when him and the Gems got locked in the ship the laxer shield didn’t keep him locked up like to did just regular gems.
My head cannon was the glowing of his gem was pink trying to reform but his body was stopping it from it happening and the sickness he was getting was his human body fighting his reformation like an infection and was losing
Maybe that is true as well because physically they weren't seperated.
I think the rejuvenator DID revert Steven back to PD, but you forget that Steven has human DNA and an organic body. Therefore he can't actually completely reset as his biological body would resist it. Maybe that's why we see him act so sickly, his gem information is fighting with his DNA as they don't correspond with one another.

After finishing the show I am glad Pink Diamond didn't come back. One of the things I love about this show is that everything Steven does to resolve his conflicts are things we can do with our relationships. Coming from someone who has a deceased parent, there is this desire to hold them accountable for all the wrong that they've done. It was comforting to see Steven struggle and accept that. There is no magic to bring back a dead parent but there is a way to heal from the damage that they've caused. I respect the writers for telling that kind of story.
This went from "Pink Diamond isn't gone" to "Pink Diamond shouldn't be gone" lol. While I agree with what you're saying about the Rejuvenator, it doesn't change what happened in the movie. He was set back to being a kid again.
Personally don't think Steven first activated his power as a baby but rather when Rose's shield first came out thanks to his love of cookie cat ice cream, and that's why the rejuvenator set him back to that point.

He looked incredibly tired from exhausting his powers, like he was about to drop dead, and that it was weird for him to look that way despite his gem only being set back by about 2-3 years. You gotta admit, it _would_ make sense for him to look that way if his gem was set back to when he was a _newborn baby._
Beyond all that though I agree with the idea of Pink Diamond being somewhere in there, but I really don't think it's in the show's thematic interest to ever bring her back. That's just my take though.

I agree that having Pink in the Steven Universe movie would have been very interesting. I'm unsure how it would have worked considering all of her memories would have been erased (eg. what happened to Pearl, Amethyst, and Garnet). Pink basically had 1000 years of character development. Condensing that in an 1.5 hour movie without making it appear rushed would have been challenging.

Isn't that what Pink Diamond did? Isn't that what Rose Quartz did? Did we ever see, or even hear, about Pink Diamond having a shield, or a bubble, or healing powers? No one batted an eye at a Rose Quartz being able to heal a gem, so that can't be specific only to Diamonds. In fact, the only power we ever heard of Pink having is her destructive powers, and no one linked Rose Quartz to Pink Diamond ever after observing her power. Then Pink controlled her powers, she changed after she broke Pink Pearl, to such an extent that her new Pearl didn't know she had them, even after she changed into Rose and fought for the lives of gems. She became meek and obedient to the other Diamonds, until she decided to change into Rose. Pearl never mentions Pink Diamond wielding the powers of Rose, yet White Diamond did know about the bubble that could deflect her powers. Yet again, all the diamonds were surprised when they learned some gems had survived their blast, perhaps not expecting a Rose Quartz shield to be able to block Diamond powers. She decided to make a promise to Earth, then to the Crystal Gems. She made a plan. She made a difference by taking a stand. She made an effort only when she understood that she could make a change from believing that gems have to pop out of the ground knowing exactly who they are supposed to be and never change. Then Rose met Greg and wondered what she could do for him that no one else could do, and she made a promise to Greg and to her child to change again.
In fact, Pink Diamond, Rose Quartz and Steven are the only known gems (and only known half-gem) to have such radically different forms, due to changes in shape & powers then becoming half-human. However, it's been pointed out that Steven is a lot like his mother so a personality/character development (change) triggers the new form, which is usually the case with any gem that reforms with a different look - the personality of the gem is carried into the new form with the change. It's a bit different with Steven because he doesn't have the direct memories of Pink or Rose. AND, Steven had to learn/relearn all of his previous form's powers, unlike any other gem, which also have powers controlled by emotions, as observed in Ruby and Sapphire. New forms are also controlled by emotions, as we saw with Amethyst changing her form to be drastically different from her true self due to her frustration and feelings of inadequacy.
Perhaps Pink Steven's reformation only occurred because Steven had this realization that affected not only him, but all layers of the Pink Diamond gem that were rejuvenated, gaining the shield, the bubble and the power to heal right before and at the start of Change. Sure, it could still be argued that him gaining the Pink Glow and destructive powers now is due to his aging and growing of powers, or maybe it's due to the rejuvenation and then reformation of the Pink Diamond gem reconnecting all the changes that Rose decided to make and allowing him to grow his first form's powers like he did with his second's. Pink Steven (gem only) actually demonstrated Pink's destructive powers once he reformed from the Pink Diamond gem, yet Steven still didn't learn them or use them until after he was rejuvenated and went through all his forms himself, even though he is directly linked to Pink Steven (being able to see through both sets of eyes at once). Pink Steven even remains emotionless until he touches Steven, which is exactly what is expected from every gem in gem society. Fusions are too sentimental. Pink acted like a child. Gems aren't allowed to want or desire. Pink Steven is Rose Quartz is Pink Diamond, but Steven is the embodiment of her changes from when she was created.
I think I went on a little ramble and I'm not sure if I fully presented my point, but I am totally willing to have an in-depth conversation about this. I hadn't really fully thought this out before, and it's really interesting.
I realized that nobody liked your comment, and I have to say I really like the way your comment is written, especially its main synthesis where you make a connection with Steven's song and Rose's life story.

I think the problem here is that you're thinking Steven's human half and his gem half as entities way more separate than they actually are, if Steven's gen half reacted like a normal gem it would've poof everytime he got hit by destabilizer and he would lose his powers temporarily, he's a brand new being, he's not a reformation of Pink or a fusion, to me Pink is still there the same way Greg's DNA is part of Steven, as data that forms him, the thing is that with gems their physical and mental data (memories and stuff) is a lot more connected, seeing how mental distress in gems can cause a physical change like corruption, so those things stayed with Steven
Steven's Gem and human halves are different from normal Gems and humans. His human half cannot survive on his own like other humans can, so it stands to reason that his Gem half would also be different from other Gems.
You serve a fair point but keep in mind pearls are meant to be organized, while pearl was the only character we have seen that is able to use this storage.
