AFM DOD Delete Part 2 - 2014 Silverado 5.3L L83 - What Parts Do You Need?

  • This is the second part of a multi part series where we will be fully deleting the Active Fuel Management (AFM) / Displacement on Demand (DOD) system from my 2014 Silverado with the 5.3L L83 motor. This process is the same for most Silverados, Sierras, Tahoes, Yukons, and Suburbans made after 2006.
    In this video we are going to cover the parts needed to delete the AFM system. All of the parts for the AFM delete were purchased from Gwatney Performance Innovations (GPI). The components for deleting AFM are listed below in this description. Since much of the motor is being disassembled for this process, I also decided to upgrade some of the other components such as ported heads, 6.2 L86 intake manifold, throttle body, and an airaid air intake.

    Have a 6.2 2016 that’s still running strong at 164k and AFM is still intact.
    Considering deleting AFM as with the mileage and long trips that I do, would rather have some peace of mind that one more potential failure point is removed from the rig.

    • @TheSundaeDrive
      @TheSundaeDrive  Před 3 lety +1

      Watch through the full series and look at the description on the engine assembly video. I have all the gaskets etc you'll need there. In my opinion, it would be extremely difficult to do in the truck. I would always pull it when doing it myself on this and future trucks to make sure it is done right. Watch through the series and you'll see why. The oil pump is the issue because it sits down inside the oil pan and dropping the oil pan is really challenging if you have it in the truck. It is also sealed by rtv and not a gasket so the rtv needs to be replaced unless you want to chance an oil leak.

    It is unnecessary to change camshaft - Because the lifters are the same size, they are different look, but absolutely use same size rods and arms. The rises of valves will be absolutely the same. And the difference in camshaft petals dod and non dod is 0,13 mm. And if you will change lifters with the guides non dod the height of valve lift will be same as stock and will be no misfires.
