    was nice to have my ECM unlocked and connected with HPT. I was able to tune on laptop only and install the file after the drop in. Just a safe start tune. VVT, DOD delete, new cam ( 3 bolt with higher lift a little higher exhaust lowered the LSA. Stage 2. LT4 inj control, Lingenfelter HTFP, Flex, dual walboro Hellcat in-tank, Methnol. Dropped the timing a little also since I went with 10:1 + Whipple instead of 11.5. I also went with a new oil pump and used the white spring which came with the LT4.

    The low oil pressure is due to the oil pressure valve in oil pan. Take out the allen head bolt,spring and ball bearing, if your model has one. Replace with a bolt. Oill pressure will be at 25 pai and up some are at 40 to 65 psi.

    LT1 E-rod apparently DOD is unactivated...so ECM should be fine. Doing the delete kit, is it just to circumvent the failure of the system down the road?? I hatre the thought of opening a brand new motor, but running as is once install complete. Another surprise, intake build-up on direct injection motors...I thought I'd step-up to the newest stuff after 6 LS installs...now thinking add methanol injection to stave off any intake valve build-up..

      I can only tell you my experience so take it with a grain of salt. I have a 2012 Silverado with the LC9 5.3L and used a Hypertech Max Energy programmer to disable the AFM over 2 years ago and haven't had any problems. The truck had about 65k miles when I did it and now has 80k. It drives like a dream. No change in mpg, either.
      I did not do a cam swap to remove the lifters. All of the guts of the engine are still stock. *Knock on wood*
      Besides the AFM, I also love the ability to change tire size, change the rev limiter, change the shift points, change the shift firmness and if I ever change the gear ratio I can adjust for that, too.
      And, no. I don't have to leave it plugged in. 👍

    • @Sdpartscenter
      @Sdpartscenter  Před 2 lety +2

      Hi Johnny P, you can definitely do that. You can disable the DOD using something like HPTuners. This can prolong the life of your DOD lifters by not having them go in and out of 4 cylinder mode. Some have had no change in MPG, some have seen an improvement in MPG, it really depends on how they drive and where they're driving.

      Many people find the four-cylinder sound annoying if their vehicle is equipped with a louder aftermarket exhaust.
      Some drivers want V8 power under their foot at all times.
      AFM lifters have a history of failing and oil consumption can be a problem.
      Found on google.

      @snooka2484 Před rokem

      Eventually the afm lifters will fail. It's incredibly common on the truck platform, Sierra/Silverado. When a lifter collapses it almost always scores the camshaft.
      So...a dealership will only replace the failed lifter and sometimes the camshaft as well. A few months later or even a year later a different afm lifter will fail. It'll keep happening and unless you're doing the work yourself you're looking at thousands each time due to the labor.
      It's essier to just get rid of it. AFM/DOD delete kit+ls7 style lifters and gain some horse/torques from the new aftermarket camshaft.
      Disabling AFM from the tune (hptuners) doesn't prevent lifters from collapsing. It happened to me. Totally sucks.

    The idea of shutting off half the cylinders is the problem. That is the stupidest way to get fuel mileage out of a V8 that I have ever heard. You can get far better fuel mileage out of a V8 when it isn't calling for torque or for a lot of power, merely by defueling the engine. You can run it considerably lean and get a hell of a lot better gas mileage than you can by shutting off half the cylinders and having to push all of that dead weight around and around and around and around. Only an asinine idiot would think that shutting off half the cylinders is a great way to get better fuel mileage. I've seen the Chrysler Hemi get an average of about 25 to 26 mile per gallon while driving down the roadway at about 60 to 65 mph in a Chrysler 300 that weighs 4,000 lb. I've gotten 22 miles per gallon out of an old school 440 when I leave the tune on the carburetor and it doesn't even have an overdrive gear or a lockup torque converter. And that would be worth almost 10 miles per gallon. If I do the same thing with that same Chrysler Hemi that shuts off 4 cylinders, I will get approximately 20 to 22 miles per gallon. However, I'll take another example, a 1994 Camaro z28, because of the styling of the car at 85 mph with the air conditioner on, I have averaged 28 and 1/2 miles per gallon. At 65 I've got 35 miles per gallon all day long. And that isn't doing anything to that engine. You put some decent plugs in it and a little bit better cam. And there's no reason why that car shouldn't be getting 42 to 45 miles per gallon and not shutting off a single cylinder.
