    A nice little tour of the Bloodborne Alpha, this time heading towards and around the Great Bridge looking for cut content and unseen little details. A few interesting tidbits, and a little treat at the end :)

    It would’ve been amazing to have that Amygdala casting a shadow, but remaining unseen until you had the necessary insight.

      New players could even, conceivably, mistake it for the nearby tree branches the first time around, only to be surprised once they come back with insight.
      The fact that there's no real reason to come back to that plaza once you clear this area is the only reason i can think of why this Amygdala was cut.

    I'm glad they cut the early amygdala. The mindfuck you get midgame is pivotal to what makes this game work so well.

      Tom Wallace this is why the oedon chapel amygdala works. I just wish they would have used the amygdala shadow trick mentioned in the video cause that was neat.

      It actually would've been really cool if that Amygdala were there, while still invisible until you have either 40 Insight or have beaten Rom, but if you could still see its shadow the whole time regardless. Imaging _that_ mindfuck.

      @@nn6404 I remember that amygdala pissed me off so much before I knew it was there. I was just thinking "WHY IS THERE A RANDOM DEATH VORTEX? THERES NO REASON FOR IT TO EXIST"

    Aw man, that Gascoigne npc made me realize how much cooler it would've been to see other hunters in action while we're just wandering around, rather than having to summon them with a bell. Could've been a bunch of random civilian hunters (human, not beast versions) and you could choose to either help them fight or whatever, mini questlines like that would've made yharnam feel more lively and more like it had a fighting chance before defeating Rom. I also wish there was more interaction with the npcs behind the doors, honestly. Don't know how that would've played out but I've always been craving that since I first played the game, kinda sad that you only get 1 or 2 lines of dialogue and then they're silent once the blood moon starts.

      The reason why they cut Gascoine as an NPC is probably so he can't accidentally die before his bossfight. I would've loved to see more roaming hunters that aren't just aggressive. I remember early coverage of the game talked about that stuff as well, but it all seems to have been cut sadly.

      Roaming hunters are something in the Old Hunters DLC. They are still hostile to you though. It was really cool to play that and see the monster in-fighting that doesn't take place in the base game. Kind of added a new mechanic. Lots of hunters taking on beasts. You can sit by and wait to pick off the survivors. Clearly it was something they wanted in the base game but probably couldn't figure it out, then managed to throw something together for the DLC.

      Yeah I think that was saved for the DLC and wouldn’t make as much sense lore wise if there were still friendly hunters around, aside from Eileen.. I guess that’s why you can summon the NPCs, and why Gascoigne is a summon instead of how he is in this alpha.

      Yeah, I meant friendly hunters specifically. I do agree that seeing the hunters vs. beasts in the DLC is pretty awesome. I'm guessing they wanted Yharnam to seem desolate and overrun by beasts in the base game, which makes sense from a lore perspective, as it's the longest/worst hunt they've had in a long time.

      Nah it spoils the horror and theme. The loneliness of the game is important and countless NPCs would be a totally different experience

    Man, the architecture and layout of Yharnam are fascinating. It looks so much like a real city when seen from above, i'd love to see more videos just showcasing the scenery.

      Borim Maibe look up the gothic architecture of czechoslovakia,miyazaki actually took his time to explore the region and observe the age old architecture as an inspiration for his game design.

    The shadows, water reflection and blood splatter on the ground look much better in the alpha version. Perhaps a necessary downgrade as the game barely handles (stable) 30fps on the vanilla PS4.

      My guess: nothing anymore because below Byrgenwerth is the Rom boss arena, but until we see something that says otherwise I believe that's where the recently discovered in cut content, slug princess would've been held captive. After all she is bound and blindfolded, and the people that made the expedition to the Hamlet where the other slug women are was Byrgenwerth so it makes sense that a cut room would house a cut NPC, and I can't find a better thing that could be in that room or a better place for the slug princess to be, especially blindfolded which implies imprisonment. She may have even had her eyes taken out, as that could also be an implication of the blindfold.

      First time I saw it was in a Chalice Dungeon, but I don't think location would matter most likely? The one that did it to me summoned double pthumerian goons. I believe it was lower pthumeru root chalice.

      I mostly notice them doing it in the Yahar'gul the unseen village area,but the black tendrills are not there.

    I'd say that this alpha version has some interesting differences, and the main game would be better with them. That Amygdala shadow would be great, especially since it would be invisible at first. Seeing Father Gascoigne out in the city would be great, especially if you could only fight him after the Cleric Beast. I'm not sure if the Bell Maiden would be a good idea for so early, due to it revealing the fact that there's some magic stuff going on.
    Even the lighting is better. It being midnight just seems to fit the area better, especially with the lit candles on the statues near the Cleric Beast. I'm still not sure why they made the start of the game at Sunset/RedMoon.

      to be fair you can fight the cleric beast after the night phase has started, he is an optional boss, but yeah the lighting looks a bit better here

    Oh dude, that AOE bell attack was NOT removed. It is very rare, but I have had bell ringers hit me with it, and it is devistating.

    I would have loved if maybe Gascoigne had greeted you outside the clinic when you first started the game, and he gave you a hint or two on how to play. You then could encounter him again on the bridge to deal with those werewolves, and you think he is maybe going to be a friendly hunter you will bump into throughout the game. And then you having to fight him as a boss would be a great introduction to the idea of hunters falling to bloodlust. Maybe if you met Eileen before going to the boss fight she would warn you to be wary of other hunters you met (so you are concerned: do you trust the man you met outside the clinic? Or this woman who tells you to be wary of everyone?).

    That chime maiden AOE attack looks very similar to the purple blast attack that I see the chalice dungeon maidens do except that it has WAY cooler looking effects and stamina damage. In my level 5 playthrough I would see them use the regular attack all the time since I couldn't do enough damage to kill them quickly. When the attack hit me it would make the player character model twitch the same way as here.
    Great work once again. I'm bummed that the Amygdala you found wasn't in the released version of the game. I can imagine coming across that shadow but not being able to see the actual Amygdala until the blood mood or having enough insight. Would have been such a cool moment.

    Is it just me or does the alpha version have better overall visuals? The lighting is better, right? From what I can see it is not the exact same lighting conditions as the "midnight" lighting in the final version (after killing Vicar Amelia). The game underwent several downgrades it seems from the very first trailers, which featured realtime dynamic shadows (like Dark souls 2's torch - a feature which was removed from Bloodborne and Dark Souls 3, in which the torch nor any other light except for a tiny few exceptions, cast realtime shadows; in DS3 it's pretty much only bonfires, but only if you are not Hollow in any way).

      I don't think you understand what I meant. Lighting doesn't necessarily refer to "light", but the lighting conditions and how light is used. Removing realtime shadows does not make the game more dark and dreary, it just removes realtime shadows which add a lot of realism.

      Of course it was necessary, I don't debate that. They could've enabled realtime shadows for DS3's PC version though. I'm beginning to think it's a technical limitation of their engine. They got two different engines after all, the one for DS2 which was "next gen ready" and the heavily modified Demon's Souls/Dark Souls 1 engine, which they used for DS3 and Bloodborne if I'm not mistaken. I remember reading this somewhere. Could be wrong and it's all the same tech, but I also remember watching interviews about DS2 and they mentioned the new engine.

    I always thought that the 2 werewolfs at bridge were rather high difficulity spike at that point of game. If they planned to have NPC fight them that actually explains rather a lot

      That's why the cleric beast bridge is locked from both sides yet it still has the prompts to open. It's not a glitch or cut content, just interactive lore lol

      It was originally meant that you can get to the Cathedral Ward either after Gascoigne or after Cleric Beast, that drops the key to the door behind him.

    the way the lighting in alpha looks here is more akin to the cover art we get and a lot of the concept art, part of me really likes how it looks here. I adore the original but This ones really lovely looking too. kinda wish the Amygdala was left in maybe once mergos cry is heard. plus that fog gate looks pretty rad

    I just love how the alpha version lightining is, it's really beautiful. It remind me so much of the lightining from the opening cinematic. I wonder if that's why the cinematic looks like that in the first place and not daytime like the beginning in the final version of the game..

    The bell maidens do have a similar attack in the current game but the texture is different. Still does a lot of damage.

    That aoe attack cast by the bellmaiden is in the final game but kind of rare, the effect is completely different too.

    Very bone chilling but intensely good this theme! Now I understand why this place with the two wolfs was so hard for beginners... You should have fought with father Gascoigne there. Mind blown! ;)

    Duh, the bellmaiden's attack wasn't removed, it simply had a retextured field of activity, which was just dustlike rings

    It would of been ace to have that Amygdala placement in the final game. As well as seeing father Gascoigne wondering before being a boss would of been amazing! Wish that had kept that in. But for fun on Ng+ i did summon him for the 1st boss. Loving these videos. Been binge watching them today! Bloodborne is my favourite game, so really enjoyed them 😀

    Awesome video, I've been waiting for people to get into the details of Bloodborne like this for a while. Have you ever considered doing an out of bounds video of Bloodborne like taking the camera to some of the areas only visible to the player such as the outside view of Yharnem from Cainhurst or along the road in Hemwik or even just to the strange looking mountains outside of Yharnem?

    I wish that Chime Maiden had made it into final game, even if only in NG+, low level PVP would really spice up Central Yharnam.

      There is still a Chime Maiden in Central Yharnam, she spawns by where you first meet Eileen the Crow.

      A Chime Maiden can appear if you initiate co-op but I mean it would be cool if the Chime Maiden was already spawned in so invasions could occur like in Mergo's Loft and the Nightmare Frontier.

      It can happen when you ring the Sinister Resonant Bell and have a boss still open (Father Gascoigne or the Cleric Beast) and it can also happen if you are above level 30 and have summoned co-op with a boss still open in which case she will then appear automatically.
      Wow your edit completely changed your comment haha. Anyway, yeah I get what you mean, automatic Chime Maidens are awesome, it's a shame they disappear after you kill the boss of an area and that they only appear in certain areas. One thing to note though is that you have to be at least BL30 before Chime Maidens appear automatically in those areas.

    Thank you for the video, it's always interesting seeing what you've found was cut from the game. Love the Amygdala's shadow and wish that they'd kept it! Just one thing though, I'm not completely sure but I think that the Chime Maiden's AoE attack that you said was cut from the game wasn't actually cut. I think that I've been attacked with that exact move before, but I'm not certain.

      Most Alphas have better reflection and lighting. Dead Rising 1 is especially similar in that aspect. They need to cut corners in order to have the game running properly. Bloodborne already has frame rate issues. Can you imagine what it would look like with the alpha lighting?

    I kinda like this alpha version lighting more than the one in the full game because it somehow makes the whole central yharnam look like upper cathedral ward - spooky and mysterious. BTW, looking forward to Byrgenwerth and Upper Cathedral Ward analysis.

    Man It would be awesome if devs released their alpha/beta builds as DLC. Theres probably a reason they dont, but man would I love to go through the alpha build myself and see what was different.

    Seeing the wavy shadows and getting met with the visual of an Amygdala high up on a tower in the distance is so impactful thanks for showing it off so nicely! The cut bellmaiden AeE looks like a BS attack so I'm glad we didn't have to deal with it....

    5:50 I've been hit by an AOE attack from her before just recently. The visual effect was different though, it was more like shockwaves coming out from the bell she's ringing.

    The chime maiden spawns there normally also the purple spirit effect is still present in chalace dungeons if you attack then back off

    It would have been so cool and heartwrenching to find Gascoigne as an npc talk to him he might tell you about his family and kill beasts and the Cleric Beast on the bridge just to find him later blooddrunk having to put him down

    I really wish From Soft had actually left some of this stuff in the game. Maybe working it in a little more in some places. The Amygdala shadow and messengers in the fog wall add so much to the atmosphere.

    Could you do a video in the future of just you messing around controlling NPC's? I'd like to see how that works in Bloodborne and (if it's doable) in Dark Souls 3. Doesn't have to be a particularly serious video, just seeing how far you can get in some areas as various NPC's. Would be really cool to see. I love your videos, by the way! Wish I could play around with these alpha versions, I'm jelly :P

    Chime maidens in the dungeons still rarely cast that attack. The little squigly animations coming up have been removed from it though.

    5:11 no that attack still exists in the final game. i found a bell ringing woman in yahar'gul doing that attack but it MIGHT have a diferent animation.

    Are you sure the bell maiden's AOE was cut? She does something very similar in the chalice dungeons, only the visual effects have been changed.

    Unrelated to the video but I've always wondered why there wasn't a bell themed weapon in Bloodborne like a 30 pound bell on the end of a stick that could disconnect from said stick and be swung around like a wrecking ball

    Pretty sure the sinister bell maiden has that aoe in the final game. Maybe it was just the chalices but she rings, it hurts. It just doesn't have the black fiery effect

    Hey, I've been kind of curious.. if you're up for the challenge. Could you explain what was going on behind the scenes that made that old storage duping trick work? I imagine you have access to the hidden values. I've just always wondered why it worked that way. It's been years, so my memory is a little rusty, but it had something to do with a secondary character and buying loads of pebbles. If you're bored enough, would love to hear some theories.

    This is really late but, for the part with the shadow of Amygdala it would be awesome if it was still in the game but, when you turn around nothing would be there. To forshadow the things that need insight to be seen and to give you the unnerving presence that something could be there and fear of the unknown. Sadly it's not but, it would be really cool if the shadow was still there.

    I’ve started playing bloodborne again and because of that I’ve gone down a bb rabbit while of old videos and I’ve just realized, this version of the game looks a lot better, like way better! Colours, textures lighting and overall graphics. It just looks way better. Really makes me wish bloodborne would have gone to PC with missing support just for reshade and texture overhauls

    Isn't the alpha version of the song basically just the second half of the final song? I guess you don't exactly get to hear it because the cleric beast is usually dead before then.
