    Well this is a special one, for the first time ever, let's take a look at the alpha version of Iosefk'as clinic. Lots of cut content of varing degrees, including a chunk of the 2nd storey floor that was eventually deleted. Also an entirely new NPC with unheard dialogue! This was quite an adventure of discovery, heh.

I play games for gameplay, I honestly couldn't care less about the story if the gameplay isn't fun. For example I was playing Witcher 3 and then switched out to Bloodborne for the first time. I ended up beating BB and then going back to Witcher 3 only to find that the combat was pretty boring to me and I just went back to Bloodborne. My guess is that the exterior/interior design teams didn't communicate much.

      @Marwolaeth Před 6 lety +235

      No, you're conflating Alpha!Laurence with the version we got in the final game. The original plot, from what can be gathered from datamined dialogue, was about the player coming to Yharnum, along with their friend Laurence to get treatment for some disease. This Laurence doesn't seem to have been related to the Church or Willem, for obvious reasons, he was just your friend. Clearly at some point in development the plot was reworked and Laurence as a name was reused for the First Vicar, perhaps so they could reuse some dialogue or something they had done already.
      It's a pretty good example of how massive and patchwork games can be; they had alpha builds with recorded dialogue and plot they completely reworked for the final game.

      I think we're both taking pretty big liberties with our assumptions. I don't think either of us can be definitively 'correct' without consulting Miyazaki himself.
      I see your point about reworking story plot etc but I also think a character as important (in alpha or otherwise) as Lawrence might not have had his origin tale changed quite as much as you think.
      But alas, we'll never know.

There's no reason to think the first version of Laurence is similar to the second; you'd have to assume things about the plot that aren't currently shown. Gunter the penguin lycanthropy is just where humans turn into wolf like monsters so no it wouldn’t have changed the flavor or concept of the game any. They are still lycanthropes.
      Also being a huge vileblood fan myself I’ve always hated the comparison of Vilebloods to vampires. It’s honestly pretty stupid. Literally everyone in the game drinks blood and the lycanthrope type enemies are the ones who drank too much. So if anything the entire population of yharnam should be considered vampires if people are going to call Vilebloods vampires (which they are not)
      I get the Dracula references and all leading to Cainhurst but other than the little Easter egg there is nothing remotely vampire about the Cainhurst lineage. Not anymore so than the rest of the characters in game anyways.

    • @ringodingo6990
      @ringodingo6990 Před 5 lety +15

      entropy 4444 yeah no not at all go reread the lore. Vilebloods literally use the same blood Byrgenwerth did. That’s how they got it. Because "Once, a scholar betrayed his fellows at Byrgenwerth...and brought forbidden blood back with him to Cainhurst Castle." It’s the same blood from Byrgenwerth . No they do not have to be ground into a pulp. That is ONLY Annalise. Evidenced by the fact all the other Vilebloods are dead. Hence not immortal like the queen. They don’t have to be ground to a pulp, most were just decapitated, also evidenced by all the headless ghosts. None of the servants are blobs which means they obviously weren’t ground to pulp either. To top it all off we literally find the corpses of members of Cainhurst ,and executioners, that we loot items off of. Hard to do if they were ground into a pulp
      Your entire response was misinformation son... And I don’t know how that sounds like a vampire anyways because that isn’t at all how you kill vampires... you just stab them in the heart with wood or put them out in the sun.
      But to be fair you probably don’t know Vileblood lore because you’re an executioner.

    • @entropy444
      @entropy444 Před 5 lety +22

      @@ringodingo6990 they're not literal vampires with fangs and that. It's a parallel, it's not the same blood as the healing church, if you full read the quote your referring too it says the guy stole a blood forbidden by the church, not the healing church's blood that they use but another one they had and didn't use, this is also evidenced how Annalise has you drink of the vileblood when you swear fealty to her. This also grants you the vilebloodrune which lets you take blood dregs from other hunters like vampires. Vampires cannot be killed the idea of a stake through the heart came from pinning them in place. This is also a world where everyone drinks blood so the idea of vampire has to be different. Instead of just drinking blood, they can extract a certain power from the blood that no-one else can.

    • @ringodingo6990
      @ringodingo6990 Před 5 lety +3

      entropy 4444 that’s was the entire quote. The only time it’s called forbidden is AFTER Cainhurst had it and that is simply because they were an enemy of the church.
      It’s not evidenced by Annalise letting you drink her blood. We literally drink Adella The Blood Saints blood. That’s where the blood in yharnam predominantly comes from. The Blood Saints. They imbibe old blood and then it’s administered to the public in a diluted form through their blood. That’s the whole point of the blood saints and why they give THEIR blood.
      You are making pure assumption by saying it’s different blood. Nothing in game or lore ever says that. It’s forbidden to the public not in general, just as Byrgenwerth is forbidden. Obviously the choir and scholars still go there, but it’s labeled forbidden because the public can’t go there.
      The Vilebloods aren’t immortal in any sense either. Annalise is and it’s speculated (key word speculated) that it has something to do with her being a pthumerian descendant. But it’s definitely not from the blood because once again, literally every Vileblood other than Annalise and the Bloody Crow are killed by the executioners.
      Vilebloods are in no way at all any more vampiric than the rest of the population in game. You just like the idea that they are vampires and so you’re ignoring what really happens to push that they’re vampires.
      Also they don’t have a power with blood others can’t use. They have blades that channel blood and no one else makes them and THAT is why the Vilebloods are the only ones that use blood that way. It’s not a power they have it’s literally their swords. (maybe they don’t know how to make them? Secret of Cainhurst? Who knows?)
      Proof that other people can use blood in the same capacity? Quick silver bullets are made from the blood of a user. The same way the extended blade on a Chikage is. You don’t even have to obtain bullets because you can create them on the spot by sacrificing your own blood

      If they ever make a remake of this game, I'd love to be able to roam more of the currently cut areas. For example they could include the research hall to the cathedral from the DLC, the second floor of Iosefka's clinic and make the house in Hemwick where you battle the witch a lot bigger, as the house seems to be a damn mansion whereas we only basically get two rooms and a corridor. Not holding my breath though, but I would buy the game instantly.

    This is so cool. It’s like at one point I imagine we had a larger clinic to explore before we somehow join the hunt full of npcs getting blood and nurses (like old lady) then I’m guessing shit hits the fan and we gotta join the hunt. I kind a like the idea of a slower more normal Yharnam and then watching it devolve, not waking up and it’s already immediately devolved to the hunt

    It almost sounds like the original plot involved you being more or less Gerhman, with Laurence likely journeying to Byrgenwyrth to cure you and apprenticing under Wilem. Later Laurence likely gets the attention of Father Norbert, who organizes the hunts on the behalf of the church. After working with Father Albert Laurence is convinced to partake of the old blood with abandon and both Norbert and Laurence become beasts. Without Laurence and Norbert the hunt and the church succumbs to disarray and in fighting and the night devolves leaving you to fight your way to a resolution.

Also while it is interesting hearing the nurse witch thing explain, and downplay, the beast plague the exposition she gives isn't on the same level of wandering through the town alone, a bit lost as to what's happening and trying to put together the pieces as you go from what you see or the few people barely holding on that you can interact with. Think it was a good change to seal off the clinic until you can go around the back and to have no one left in it but the extra bits to look around in would have been nice to have kept.

    Iosefka's Clinic is the most confusing area in the game. Finding the entrance there is hard because the entrance is found trough an already confusing area, then trough another sort of confusing area (Literally had to look it up), the place is really dark and has long halls and the things there make no sense.
    I walked in there and Iosefka had already gone insane? I was supposed to find the area sooner I believe but it honestly annoys me now. I didn't know that finishing one side quest required me to be there at the right time or I would miss a lot. Wish the area was implemented better.

    • @Wveth
      @Wveth Před 6 lety +1

      Well a lot in the game is designed to be unintuitive, probably to give the feel of "stumbling across things." You're not "supposed" to find her sooner, but things happen differently if you do. Actually, in order to get an item that allows you access the Moonlight Presence boss and get the third ending, you need to NOT engage her until the point where you did. So it's not like you missed something you were intended to do.
      As an aside, if you didn't know, you don't actually meet Iosefka apart from very briefly at the beginning if you go back up the stairs and talk to her through the door. Once you've beaten Father Gascoigne, I believe, Iosefka is replaced by an imposter. She has a slightly different voice but the real tell is that the original Iosefka is very firm that she cannot open her doors for ANY reason and cannot accept anyone else in the clinic. The imposter Iosefka asks you to direct people to her. When you do get in there properly, you find one of the celestial enemies for each person who sent there, who will drop an item related to that character. However, there is always one of them there regardless, and it drops "Iosefka's Blood Vial," implying that it is the original Iosefka, post-experimentation by the imposter Iosefka.

    • @WhiteZet1
