- Ed Unicycles New Zealand [Ep.1]
Woohooo! The first instalment is READY and I'm ecstatic to be finally sharing my New Zealand experience with you all. In this one I leave Australia, begin my ride from the very bottom of NZ, help cut some tails off lambs and get caught out in snow climbing the country's highest paved road. Definitely not one to miss :)
Thank you for your patience while I found the time to edit this series. New videos every week (for at least the next 6 weeks)

Dude, this is addictive as hell....found the channel this morning, been binge watching all day.
That makes two of us!

@@sullyg3841 I finished all of Ed's vids and now youtube is pounding the hell out of me with unicycle recommendation vids.

That's fricking dedication dude. This trip is hard enough, but filming the entire thing is a whole new level.
For all those saying that this is animal cruelty, if you cant watch it then you shouldn't be eating meat. this is how meat is produced. The process of shortening the tails is necessary especially in wet climates to stop the animals getting horrible infections (I've seen it, I live on a farm).
wouldn't have to cut their tails off in the first place if they weren't breed for consumption, therefor cruel and unnecessary
+Miro Fisch if you read what he said instead of copy-pasting the same bullshit you would realise the comment is directed at people that eat meat
Pro_gaming_god how can I take you seriously when your name is 'pro gaming god' haha
buy a sense of humour
If they were really being cruel to these sheep and lambs, they would have not cared about penning them under the shade.
„Docking improves the health and welfare of sheep and lambs. It prevents fecal matter from accumulating on the tail and hindquarters of the animal. Research has shown that tail docking greatly reduces fly strike (wool maggots), while having no ill effect on lamb mortality or production.“ - www.sheep101.info/201/dockcastrate.html

You're the man Ed. Sending love from Singapore 🙌
Awesome man! This was so much fun to see you on the road again Ed!
Great to see that you are giving a real view of your trip, and climbing that range!! I was worried just driving it!
Whether its not what you want to see, you can't argue with the fact that it's educational. No matter what we do, it's going to continue to happen. so lets just appreciate it for what it is.
great to have another video from you Ed
Nice to see videos are back! Looking forward to your kiwi adventures
Great to see you upload Ed. 👍
Way to go Ed, you are very inspiring. NZ is an amazing country and kiwis are extremely nice. Hope you will enjoy your trip!!
Rewatching this again! So rad seeing it in a new light since driving through NZ over 2019/2020 till covid sent us home. Camped at that spot overlooking Queenstown and Wakatipu. Beaut sunset!
You are the best. Your personality shines.
Bravo Ed! Just stumbled across your video after looking at some New Zealand stuff, as my fiancé and I will be moving there in a couple of weeks. Subscribed and will work my way through your backlog, but I wanted to congratulate you on your enthusiasm and drive on doing something so incredible. Well done, and keep doing what you love!
Makes me want to get back on the roads and do some unicycling! Awesome stuff as always, Ed.
Awesome stuff as ever! I was in nz last year, borrowed and bike and went few hundred miles on same roads, great to see 👍

Great to see you on the road again! Excellent video. Greetings from Atlanta.
for me you are like a fantacy characher flying around the fantastic world... You are really amazing man !
Ed back on track. ❤👍
Good luck on the new journey!
Having cycled up Crown Range Road with my loaded MTB, I fully appreciate how goddamn difficult the climb really is. Amazing that you did it on an unicycle!!
great video Ed, thanks for keeping it real
I was just thinking last night that you haven't uploaded in a while, and boom, new video today!
WELCOME BACK ED! You were missed 😀
You're getting pretty good at this Ed, I can see you as a documentary maker.
Been waiting for more from Ed, awesome !
New Zealand is a very remote country, so the Zealnders going to invite every traveling man they see. I know this series is going to be filled with lovely people.
So happy your channel was recommended to me.
Agreed
you are crazy ed....in a good way off course...
Well done Ed, really enjoyed seeing you back on here, :-) Cheers
Good on ya Ed hope your travel in NZ is safe and trouble free hope I can see you in Auckland area.
nice to see you back.
What incredible art this is!
The Crown Range was where I fully appreciated brake fade for the first time, back then it was still gravel and great for a bit of amateur rallying.
Haven’t slept yet 😂 it’s 4am right now for me. Now there’s really no regrets! Glad I’m up to watch this 😆
lmaoo I reading this comment at exactly 4:00am
I thought the whole lamb thing was very interesting, but maybe next time you should explain what’s happening on camera so people understand and don’t jump to conclusions
It's called docking. It's to cut the tail of to prevent feces build up. You can either do it by searing it off like in the video or put a rubber band around the tail to stop the blood flow and therefore letting it fall off.
@@pokingotaku Yeah I know what it is but it seems many don't and they were heavily criticising Ed for 'animal abuse'
@@pokingotaku makes sense, but what about the stuff they did to the ears?
@@LPVit Ear tags i'd say
@@aaronmoore797 never heard of this kind of tags, it could be some sort of marking to separate by group; I only know they give cows tags, but those are with numbers and only require a piercing, not bits of ears cut off completely
that was a legendary intro lol "what did i tell you !?! 13mph!!!" XD
Finally back Ed !
Excellent Ed, excellent video.
Thanks for the video!
editing top notch ed weldon!!
New Zealand is such an awesome and easy place to hitchhike around! You can literally go from beach to glacier to fjords in under an hour. And the people there are so fucking nice, got offered quite a few free beds while hitchhiking around
Love all of eds videos
Ah man I love it, I'm looking at going from the north to the south and end in Bluff. Im going to try and take 5 weeks off of work to get it done. but with two wheels ;)
These new bars look like a huge improvement over the old style :)
Love your video
safe travels Ed
Love the effort you put into these videos, looking forward to watching the journey.
I saw the like/dislike ratio before watching the video an knew something was afoot, didn't take much comment scrolling to find out.....
I've helped dock lambs on a farm a long time ago and believe me, this process is much nicer. It used to be a extremely tight rubber band tied around the tail to cut off blood supply, taking days before the tail fell off. This process is far better.
This is also the reality of farming, it's not pretty but it needs to get done.
why does it need to be done, please enlighten me...
@@jimmy-jamesolivier-mccutch2126 So you can eat fucking food and have resources to live
Docking needs to be done so lambs don't get fly strike or anything else nasty from shit build up behind their tail. Not pretty to some but necessary.
Jimmy-James Olivier-McCutcheon fly strike when flies lay eggs in built up faeces trapped by the long tail..maggots eat the lamb to death if they aren’t found quickly enough..better to have 30 seconds of pain for the lamb than die a really horrible slow death
@@Blurriy We don't really need to eat lamb though do we? Not trying to start an argument; I'm a meat eater myself and have farmer relatives, can't really be throwing stones. I also understand that this is of overall benefit to the sheep, but I can't deny that mass farming makes me uncomfortable
I was waiting for you to put the wheel in the water to start!
Missed your videos !!!!!
Happy new year ed from Suffolk england
You’re totally crazy for doing the cardrona Road between Queenstown and wanaka
Holy crap, I rarely burst out laughing but that Kiwi on the unicycle got me good.
Kiwi on kiwi, more specifically.
Did you get new kit for your Uni? You should do a bikecheck(UniCheck) vid. Do they make mag wheels for uni cycles? No spokes to worry about
Never realized how much New Zealand looks like my home state
Yihouuuuu come back !!
When will you come to Auckland? We’ll come to see ya!
best shots are those where you stop to mark the territory on the side of the road XD
Good luck brother
I was in NZ on a vaca and was looking for you when you were around Hamilton near Auckland!! I couldn’t find you though :( were driving around an hour. I wish I could have met you in person
if you went on the east side you will be on the better route, which goes through kaikoura which is bloody awesome (it has seals as well)
Kia ora, Ed.
Could you please do some 'Lord of The Rings' scenic riding where possible (Matamata, Wellington, Wanaka etc)
Best wishes from Budapest
way to go ed!!
I like how the kiwi at the end is cycling on a kiwicycle haha
YOOOOO!!!! Lets go!!!!!! I love to see it when YT brs come to my country KIA ORA!
What a dude excellent channel
Jeremy Clarkson said great things about New Zealand, and he very rarely has a nice thing to say about anywhere in the world. His domestic flight was delayed and an airport worker had invited him back to their house for a cup of tea. We're usually seen as very friendly people, it gets better the further south you go. If you stand out from the rest, either by fame, or some crazy mission, chances are you'll have the easiest time with the locals anywhere.
I wouldn't say better the south you go but as long as your not a Jaffa.
You want a stop in Utah, going across the USA ? Ogden Utah, northern Utah. Near to Salt Lake City.
hi. best wishes from wellington.
awesome homage! :-D
Freemounting on the mountain road looks like a challenge.
Does anyone know what camera Ed uses for his video's? I do unicycle videos but mostly use a GoPro
UniMart I guess he does not use a GoPro because GoPro is for people who want to pay all the massive advertising and who believe they can fly from Red Bull.
lightdark00 I noticed the yi action cam and I can tell he has a new compact camera from what he started with but could find out what it was
lightdark00 I need a new camera for my uni ride videos. Just editing one from yesterday I did with my compact but no flip round screen. Didn't know if his has.
thats cool!!!!!! intro
