- Ed Unicycles China [Ep. 3] - In this one I ride deeper in to Xinjiang province, meeting many friendly people on the G30 wondering what on earth a British guy on a unicycle is doing in their country. Offers of food water are frequent and much appreciated. Offers of kisses from 40year old guys...not so much!

The man who kissed you should be the kazak of China, and this is their etiquette
The man kissed you is a minority man, the kiss is for pray for good luck to you and say goodbye, it's their culture.
I thought it's the man thought that it's caucasian culture to kiss goodbye. lol
Definitly not.
Kazak people, looks like
you guys' English rocks my world i love it
Unexpected Mensheviki!
chinese people seem nice.
All the Peoples of this World are basically good Peoples until their Governments dictates them to act as bad Peoples.
@zhmz888 What?
all peoples you get to know are nice, there is no such thing as a country of assholes
welcome to china, you are a brave man, good luck ,dude
The other cyclist you've met was so nice! People in China seem incredibly kind :)
this is almost always the case when you visit rural areas around the world. they are so welcoming
Love China from Afghanistan
Love and respect from Berlin. Keep cool, man!
I'm from Afghanistan helmant Provence and that's same here we kiss on neck or cheek we don't shake hands we hug to make love between human being even I've hugged many marines they're lit bro have a good one fella
You got the anwser. At Horgos border gates most of the minority are Kazak people. Kiss on the cheek is quite normal.
The uncle kissed you is a muslim, and it's probably their way of greeting, like in Iran.
wenhao li
No, they look like Kazakh
@@firefly4784 Kazak is alsoo muslim tho
You‘re just amazing ! Enjoy watching your video 👍🏻
I wouldn't call that kiss 'touchy feely' myself. I thought it was a beautiful, caring and human gesture of respect. Made my eyes water up a little. Although, I am English too so I do understand why you reacted that way, sort of.
I agree with you. The kindness is incredible.
Kind, generous, caring people throughout this beautiful small world.
Yet another interesting and enjoyable video - well done Ed!
The watermelon scene in the field is reminiscent of a wonderful memory of my father's. He grew up in foggy San Francisco with a VERY German father. Wasting anything, especially food was "streng verboten!" (strictly forbidden)
My dad would escape his stifling home environment and the SF fog for the hot California Central Valley to visit his farming aunt and uncle. Ahhhh, freedom! His uncle was a larger than life type of personality. Drank heavily, but was stone sober for work on Mondays. And a fine medical professional with "the best hands in town." This uncle would take my dad and his cousin out into the watermelon fields to find ripe ones. How would uncle test them? By smashing them on the ground! "Ah, that one wasn't quite ripe yet!" his uncle would boom in his big voice. They'd walk the rows smashing watermelons until they found ripe ones. Then they feasted!
This behavior was so totally foreign to my dad. His father would have been thoroughly disgusted by this "American waste and excess!" And for this reason, my father LOVED it and LOVED escaping to his aunt & uncles on the farm.
Great story...well written too 👍👍
Some of the roads you were riding in China are actually freeways, quite dangerous though. Admire your courage.
I need to move to China asap! It will be my first trip in 2018! Cheers from Sweden!
Welcome to China! Enjoy different culture, delicious food, nice view and affable people.
Welcome!
Welcome!
hopefully , you have done it .
Alex, How was it?
Love ur videos, the way you film and edit those videos makes them so entertaining and it gives me the feeling that I am part of ur adventure!
Finding your video was the best thing that happened to me today. Xinjiang is my hometown, I will forward it to other people who do not know Xinjiang. Merry Christmas!🎄
You are an impressive guy. I am impressed.
That was ironic replacing a tube that was made in China bought in England and replacing it in China
cheer for globalization
Ironic. 😎
Such a real video. It’s more related to the real life in the countryside of China than western media press. Good luck bro.
So cool eating the produce right on the land. Such a different way of living than most of us.
Ed, you are the best!!!
amazing man, unicycle must be very difficult I think。bless you
when I first saw your videos I didn't even see the unicycle and thought this guy is crazy (in a good way) to be cycling through xinjiang! and then seeing the unicycle blew my mind lmao
wish i can travel to west part of China, too beautiful
bashisantuan literally means the 83th regiment. Back in the days troops were stationed near the border, reclaiming the no man's land and building infrastructure of which link the frontier to the hinderland. Naming the place after the unit for the brave soldiers and frontiersmen.
Cool
what a great trip
The kiss is for good luck, I would have expected a much more open-mind from a person travelling to world to meet new cultures Mr Pratt.
Btw, that man is probably of Kazakh descent, it's in their tradition.
nice trip, nice video.
It’s actually a really wonderful culture shock when this happens but the kiss in his religion is an action of good luck 😁 which many other people have also said but it’s something I knew so damn I’m going to tell you 😂
What a fantastic experience!
So happy I found this.
5:18 The "Made in China" bit was hilarious.
thanks to show the Xinjiang China to the world!
Chinese people are so proud that you are taking your time to explore our country.
What is taped to the undersides of your pedals? Wow Ed , you have met so many wonderful people everywhere you go! 👍☮️🌞🚵♂️
Epic adventure!
They are good people. ..you need to came to brasil
it's not very safe to ride on the highway. take care.
Very nice video

Salute from Albania Aleksander Suçi
It was a Be blessed kiss brother.
French men in this part of France kiss if they are best friends
Great travels
What is best is your infectious smiles and laughs
Ed. The man who brings tubes home to where they were born.
China seems really nice and nice people
很棒
take care , dude. i subscribed....
Hi Ed, I think your video edits are getting better. Nice work and good on ya! Are you carrying a laptop?
Thomas Wood: practice makes perfect
I haven't seen you mention, nor anyone ask about your pedals yet. I assume you've weighted one side to help you free mount? So that the pedal is always horizontal and ready for your foot.
perfektní
where did you get the first BGM....its like 50 years old
I Love it when people come from cultures where they just can't handle being kissed by strangers :D
Chinese people don't kiss people usually though lol
But this guy is Uighur (Turkish people) who have it in their culture as many Muslim cultures do.
That's slightly homophobic lmao
man i don´t even kiss my mother, germans are quite introverted but in my family we rarely touch, not because we don´t like each other, but it would make me uncmfortable for sure:D
feedtheego how’s that?
Don't know if you're aware of this, but you can get a "micover" from Amazon, which is a furry thingy to stick on the mic holes on cameras to massively reduce wind noise. Saw this tip on a MTB channel I follow. Too late for the China vids I guess, but still a ways to go on your trip right, so worth it I'd say! :-)
Or just buy a pair of really cheap socks instead.......lol......
Xinjiag, China is feature in the book, "The Red Scarf Girl!"
how did u get on the high way???
Innova tube! Damn!
good people
The Chinese people seem so cool
Jeff Pape of course ,and welcome to our country ,all chinese are friendly
I’ve watched so many of ur vids and have always wondered, what size wheel is that?
36 inches my dude :)
Hi Ed,
Of all the transportation methods, why did you choose a unicycle?
DAT BOI see his earlier videos of his journey it will explain all.
He didn't get kissed by dudes in France? C'est dommage!
7:46 You can tell they're ripe by gently slapping them with your fingers. The ripe ones sound really, really taut, like they're about to burst. They shouldn't sound rubbery at all.
I wonder what his average moving speed was on the unicycle??
lmao english people being so moved by a kiss is so funny to me (i'm french we do that on a daily basis)
haha its very rare in our culture which is weird I guess because it is common in Europe and further East. But I guess just like the japanese us Islanders are quite hands off and reserved ;)
That kind of kiss is pretty common in Brazil too.
what a man....
I thought your wheel was 36"
nice
羡慕,欧美人真的活得轻松自在
1:30 da kiss tho
他是怎么上的高速
kiss for a great pray to you, means wishing you all the best
donno what his wife would say about that but they are really really nice people.
he was way too little views
Toughest journey because he passed lots of mountainous areas. Only 20 years old man can do this.
The main roads mostly have a gradient of less than 0.08, so if he choose the right road, it should be OK, and the way he chose is going descending in general.
omg,I dont even dare to stare at first moment
Xinjiang is amazing place for fruits
Wait... but how could you ride on a highway?
sending love from Bahrain
If I was rich I would do this and carry some gold with me then give it to good people like this.
It's a communist country. You mean well i know, but your thinking is patronising, bourgeois & criminal in my eye's.

He's more like 50, not 40. Nice guy.
"And now he's taking me to see where the inner tubes are grown!"
Man, those wrinkles around his eyes make him look so wise and kind...
加油,欢迎你来到中国!
男人间的快乐就是这么简单
Top speed broo??

I WANT ONE OF THOSE DING CHON CHURS..........???? MOTORBIKE TRUCKS LOL
Ты крутой)

Were you stealing the watermelon?
You are the forbidden exotic white chocolate in that region
Please show the real life of People in XINJIANG China. Western media always say that the Xinjiang People are being oppressed by China government.
