When I was in college as an athlete, I finally learned the truth about heart disease from our team sports therapist. When she was collecting my family’s medical history for their records she asked “is there history of heart disease in your family?” I told her that my grandpa died of a heart attack but “he ate a lot of red meat and he smoked”. She replied “meat has nothing to do with it; it’s the smoking that did him in”

True. My father had heart disease and died of a heart attack. But he ate seed oils he thought were "heart healthy", he drank alcohol too regularly, ate far too many carbs and was metabolically unwell with a large amount of visceral fat. That caused him to have untreated sleep apnea. So, his hypertension was treated with BP meds and his doctors never talked to him about his lifestyle or treated his underlying causes. I wish I knew what I know now. Maybe he could have changed things in time. 🥲

My grandparents never worried (or even thought) about "eating healthy." They ate normal stuff - meat, cheese, pasta, vegetables, eggs, used cream in their coffee, had dessert after dinner, ate ice cream, dunked cookies into their coffee and drank wine/beer and an occasional cocktail. Grandpa smoked cigars. Neither took any medication or would even listen to their doctor. Grandpa lived to be 99 (3 months short of 100) and grandma lived to 106. Both were spry and independent right up until they died. Grandma was in her kitchen making stuffed artichokes and her italian cheesecake for a neighbors birthday the day before she died. Those who cut out all but about 30 per day, they use less insulin. Keep your insulin (growth hormone, duh)low, and you reverse most chronic illness. I know because I did it! So, my gut microbiome is now optimal for animal based diet and not for fermenting veggies and fiber. I am seeing that fiber causes fermentation in the gut. But to me, fermenting fiber = GERD, pain and down the road gallbladder sludge, leaky gut, etc. I left behind that misery when I went plant free last year, so I don't really want to go back to that. All major health organizations suggest the reduction of processed foods and saturated fats as well as dietary cholesterol. This includes meat, eggs and diary in top of the refined foods your mentioned here which are ALL processed even if it is organic, grass fed, cage free, local or any other label- all these foods are processed to some extent so by your own logic they should be minimized which is actually what the consensus is. The red meat is absolutely a contributing factor for increasing the risk of several chronic diseases it’s even classified as a class 1 carcinogen so it should be a primary focus of reduction. In addition it’s important to eat plants in their whole form, anyone with a modicum of knowledge knows that even plant based foods can be unhealthy and thus should be primary whole food plant based if you go that route. That is not to say that a healthy dietary pattern cannot include some processed and high saturated fat and cholesterol containing foods such as animal products or refined carbohydrates but that they should be luxury items added to a balanced diet. The error here is to say that animal products should not be minimized for longevity and a healthy life style. Again this is long term and not short term information that we are using to assess these claims for the masses.

I'm not convinced sugar is the bad guy either. Neurons prefer glucose for good reason: it is the most energy dense and (potentially, assuming proper OXPHOS metabolism) most efficient form of energy available. That is why bodies crave sugar - for very good reason. It is true that Americans consume more sugar, but I don't think it is so much more that it accounts for most of these issues.
It is the ultraprocessed nature of these "foods" and the high degree of pesticide residues and other toxins in these GMO grains that is likely the real cause. Things like saturated fat and sugar may be triggers, but they didn't cause the metabolic dysfunction. People eat sweet, buttery (grain-based) pastries in France daily or rich pastas in Italy without the obsesity rates of Americans.

This might explain the so called 'French Paradox'. A nation or red meat eaters with one of the highest cholesterol (LDL) levels in Europe, yet very low rates heart disease. And it might also explain the Maasai tribesmen of Kenya, who ONLY eat red meat and drink milk and fresh cows blood. I hear the Maasai have the highest levels of LDL cholesterol in the world, yet have extremely low levels of heart disease. I guess despite their high levels of so called 'bad' cholestrol, neither the French or the Maasai are big junk food eaters. 🙂 They eat fresh whole real food. This might suggest that it's not cholesterol that is the REAL problem here, but rather the consumption of ultra-processed Western foods packed with sugar, glutons, seed oils, preservatives, artificial flavourings and other junk we should not be eating. I think it's good to remind ourselves that we have spent most of our existence on this planet as hunter gatherers.

Go figure!
I still suspect heart disease in particulaly Western societies may have more to do with the consumption of junk food (esp. sugar), food that we have not evolved to eat rather than the consumption of meats and/or dairy containing high amounts of cholesterol and saturated fats.

However, if one were to fast or under-eat to a point where their cells were low in both fatty acids and glucose, and then *switched* to a new diet of eggs, butter, and meat, then I would not expect a problem, as the person's metabolism should begin to work more efficiently.

Bacon is processed, but not like the 💩 foods he is talking about in this video.
Any food you eat needs to be processed. For example, you can’t eat an entire cow, it needs to be cut up…aka, processed.
Bacon is cured and smoked, if it’s REAL bacon. Don’t buy that Hormel 💩.
Read labels. What you want is, “minimally processed”, foods. Nothing from a factory, made with glyphosate filled oats, corn, or soy products, and no chemicals or added sugars.
Fry it all in lard, tallow, ghee, or real butter. Don’t use any oils…especially seed oils, aka vegetable oils.
Think of how you would’ve eaten on a farm in 1843. 😂

We ate low fat my whole childhood. I had to sneak off to eat fast food to get what my body craved. Beef and fat. Most people avoid fat and red meat because their stupid doctor told them. Wtf are you talking about. The people that listen to their stupid doctor are the most at risk.

If you just don't eat sugar and other plant poisons and don't smoke you don't have to worry about it...

Inuit mummies of Greenland didn't eat any processed foods, but lots of saturated fat, and they had atherosclerotic plaque.

I will be surprised if the medical profession ever admits this. How do you explain to your clients that you've been inadvertently killing them for the last 50 years?!
