The worst offenders are the so called “healthy protein treats”. I used to live on things, thinking I was doing good by eating all of the “protein” that I needed in a day. It was all maltodetrin, sucralose, corn solids, soy protein, canola oil, and sunflower oil … total garbage. I just didn’t know any better then. I could have been eating the real food!! ❤

    Glad you are naming it - linoleic acid, the primary omega - 6 originating in plant seeds. It’s not the omega - 6 to omega - 3 ratio that we should be concerned about. It’s simply the ridiculously high levels of omega - 6 that have found their way into modern processing of food. That includes pork, chicken, fish and all animals fed corn, soy, and grain high omega - 6 feeds. We do not have a high omega - 3 problem - unless we try to artificially increase our omega - 3’s with supplements. Omega - 3’s will oxidize worse than omega - 6’s. So we only need to reduce our omega - 6’s. Yes, the linoleic acid.

    • @williambent9636

      Your comment about absorbing Omega 6 via grain-fed animals really freaks me out. Are diary and eggs affected too? Is there research on this I could consult? A lot of us Keto or Carnivore people are in big trouble, despite the improvements we basically all feel, if animal products are a risk also. Of course free range makes senses for many reasons, but who doesn't feed their chickens some grain?

    • @brawndothethirstmutilator9848
      @brawndothethirstmutilator9848 Před 6 měsíci +10

      @williambent9636, Dairy is not an issue because nearly all the fat they contain is saturated. Eggs contain linoleic acid (even when the hens are allowed to graze and forage), but the health benefits of moderate egg consumption make them worth it imo. What people on carnivore or keto really need to be aware of is the fairly large amounts of omega-6 in chicken and pork from grain feeding. I focus on beef. When I need some variety I generally eat chicken breast or very lean cuts of pork. Less fat means less omega-6 in any mono-gastric grain fed animals.

    • @SandraLovesSun
      @SandraLovesSun Před 6 měsíci +5

      Is there evidence that Omega 6 is absorbed through the beef? I am just curious because Jordan Peterson's family does not concern themselves with Grassfed beef and they have perfect numbers after eating 5 years of just beef and lamb (Mikalah, Jordan's daughter only east beef and her mother Tammy only has Lamb) Jordan I am assuming eats both and I know he only eats meat. Numbers are perfect.

      You need omega 6s in your body. What in the world are you talking about. Pork, chicken, blah blah blah nonsense. Why do you use oil, to begin with? Obviously, you know nothing about nutrition. Just because I may drink some freaking milk that contains linoleic acid is not going to make me sick. It's your gluttony that's making you sick, not a freaking cup of oat milk.

    • @herberthonegger
      @herberthonegger Před 5 měsíci

      Indeed, plant omega-3- fatty acids, e.g. ALA are very reactive and rapidly oxidise on exposure to air or in various metabolic pathways. While the longer chain omega-3 FA usually found in supplements, like fish oil, seem to have some benefits, it makes a lot more sense to reduce the amount of plant omega-6-FA which are now unavoidable if processed food is consumed.

    Humans are evolved to consume saturated animal fats. All we need is butter (clarified butter/ghee for high heat), beef/goat tallow, chicken/duck fat, pork lard, etc. It's so easy to render and strain these fats at home. You can keep them in a mason jar on the kitchen counter or in the fridge for later use in cooking.

      Monogastric animals such as chickens ducks and pigs will store the fats they're eating in their tissues without further metabolism and upcyclying. If your pigs/chickens/ducks were fattened on grains their whole lives they have the seed oils in their fat and you won't be getting much better PUFA profiles than just eating the seed oils. Ruminants at least metabolize and upcycle more fats but there is still a difference between grain fed and 100% grass fed and finished beef when it comes to PUFA profiles, with 100% grass fed beef, lamb and wild game having very good Omega3 : Omega 6 ratios.

    Even throughout college and even more recently I'd still get acne from time to time. Never severe.
    Recently I stopped eating peanut butter, even the healthy stuff where the only ingredient is peanuts.
    Most of me recurring acne has gone.
    I think in the same way that vegetable oils aren't great for us in large quantities, peanut butter, peanut oils aren't as well. They are still mostly unsaturated fats that would oxidize easily.
    I think the only way to eat them is as a whole peanut. I don't think the butters are good for us at this point.

    Idk if you mentioned it, but it's important to be aware that refined olive oil exists. A lot of cheap "Extra Virgin" olive oil is actually half extra virgin, half old oxidized olive oil that is refined to be tasteless. EU has regulations against this but US does not. No real way to tell absolutely but if there are multiple countries of origin on the bottle, it's probably a mix of old oils.
    This also means any product that contains olive oil, is really just refined olive oil. If ingredients say "Olive Oil" it is nearly 100% refined. Even if it says "Extra Virgin", it could be one of those mixes.

I even got rid of all those awful cooking oils in my house in place of lard and tallow that I rendered myself. However, back in December I got into a rut of eating out more and more and haven't been able to stop that bad habit for some unknown reason. Usually, the meal I would eat out was the only meal i would eat that day. Usually drank unsweet tea with a splash of sweet. Don't eat too many sweets because i just don't crave it anymore. But my clothes still got tighter! Even adding in more exercise hasn't helped with my clothes fitting better. I needed this reminder about seed oils! I can exercise more and work on lymphatic drainage all night and all day, but if i don't ditch the seed oils for good I will probably continue to struggle with my weight. Knowing this is good, but follow-through sure isn't easy!

    It would be great to see you do a simple podcast on the organic chemistry and structure of saturated vs. monounsaturated vs. polyunsaturated fats so viewers can see and understand why pufas are inherently unstable, subject to oxidation, and contributors to free radicals and inflammation. What struck me about your discussion with Dr. Ovadia is how he no longer sun burns and doesn't wear sunscreen, once he got off pufas. If you dig into that and ask why that is, the organic chemistry of the oils makes sense. It's not that they're seed oils or industrial oils as to why they're inherently bad, it's their chemistry... and I grew up in the 70s-80s when we were brainwashed into believing saturated fats were evil.

    Id love to see you do a breakdown on Asthma on Linoleic Acid.
    Heres what I've found. Not a master class on biochemistry, but here's a little background that likely only scratches the surface.
    Vegetable / seed oils are high in linoleic acid (LA).
    LA is converted to aracidonic acid(AA) from LA incorporated I to the cell membranes by D6D and D5D(delta 5 desaturase).
    AA is oxidized to many inflammatory compounds, such as Hydroxyeicosatetraenoic acid (HETE), prostaglandins, or leukotrienes.
    Looking at 15-HETE. It has been shown to worsen early allergic asthmatic response. It's also found in higher concentrations of exhalations ad sputum of asthmatics.
    12-HETE increases NF kappa beta, which increases IL-6, a pro-inflammatory cytokine also implicated in asthma and inflammation.
    A fabulous drug for asthma is montelukast, a leukotriene receptor antagonist, blocking the effects of leukotrienes (derived from AA). A few types are particularly inflammatory in the lung tissues.
    The half life of fats in your cell membranes is about 1-2 years. If you have a lot of LA in your cell membranes from dietary intake, it's gonna take awhile to reduce it.
    So now to fix asthma.
    Lower LA intake reduces LA in the cell membranes, which means less AA to convert to all those inflammatory products.
    *Vegetable/ Seed oils are much higher in LA than other sources.* Avoid these and foods with them. Processed foods are usually the worst, as are restaurants, dressings etc. It takes an active avoidance strategy.
    This dietary change also resolved my arthritis, eliminated my chronic pain related to nerve damage, and significantly reduced my allergy severity. Side benefit, I barely sunburn now, but heal rapidly when I do. Others have reported similar benefits.
    Downside is it can take months to years to fix depending on continued intake and the half life of fats in the body.

    • @VegetaPrinceOfSaiyans
      @VegetaPrinceOfSaiyans Před 6 měsíci +1

      You also produce GLA from LA, which is anti-inflammatory and inhibits production of leukotrienes from AA via its conversion to DGLA. DGLA also serves as a precursor to anti-inflammatory TXA1 and PGA1.

    "'DHA Omega-3 Supports Brain Health,' according to the Horizon cartons sold in
    supermarkets around the United States. What the Horizon milk carton doesn't advertise is that some of its contents were brewed in closed stainless steel vats
    of Schizochytrium.
    This omission avoids any ick reaction from shoppers, but consumer advocates
    say it also dodges a key question: Is milk supplemented with an oil brewed in a
    factory really 'organic?'
    'We do not think that [the oil] belongs in organic foods,' said Charlotte Vallaeys,
    a senior policy analyst, at Consumer Reports. 'When an organic milk carton says
    it has higher levels of beneficial nutrients, like omega-3 fats, consumers want
    that to be the result of good farming practices … not from additives made in a
    factory.’”

    30 x 24-hour fasts, and you can drive out a large percentage of linoleic acid. My math suggests I've driven my adipose down to 2.5-4.5% (depending on the starting LA % being between 10-20%).

    • @ZebraLemur
      @ZebraLemur Před 6 měsíci +4

      @curiouskitten I was doing a 24 hour about once or twice a week. All that matters is the overall loss of adipose weight per fast. Let's say a person is 190lbs, 15% body fat. They carry 100,000 calories on them. Let's say they burn 3000 calories during their fast (exercise included). They will be at 97% of their original fat, linoleic included.
      If they do this 30 times (without weight loss) it's (.97)^30 or 0.40.
      This is a 60% reduction of linoleic acid after 30 fasts. Mine were more extreme and I was much lower than 15% body fat, so I saw an approximate 75% reduction in linoleic acid

    Peanut oil has more PUFAs than canola oil. Also, look at the smoke points on oils. Then you have omega 3 fish oil capsules that oxidize even faster than seed oils.

    It’s not just your food. For all you vitamin supplement junkies out there it’s also maltodextrin. Almost all of them are loaded with it. I found out my multivitamin I’ve been ordering from a well known supplement company has maltodextrin as one of the primary ingredients. After going through my other supplements at home I found nearly everything contained this ingredient.

    Was really eye opening when I saw Georgi Dinkov talking about this and other Ray Peat related diet topics on Paul Saladino's podcast. If you ever get the opportunity to have Georgi Dinkov on your channel that would be cool.

    That Gersson therapy doctor lady said in a long time documentary or interview. She even said olive oil. Probably because they become rancid. It’s tough folks. Keep it moderate until you see any healthy changes.

      A recent survey looked at 22 avocado oils and only two passed.

    I have been wondering, for a while, if this seed oil issue is behind the destruction of people's knees. People eat chips, chips, chips and fried chicken for days and everyone is losing their hips and knees.

    Canola oil has a profile of 62% monounsaturated, 32% Polyunsaturated, 6% saturated fats. Most of the other seed oils are well below 50% monounsaturated fat (palm, sesame, cottonseed, soybean, corn, flaxseed, sunflower, safflower...). For comparison Olive Oil has 73% monounsaturated fat & not that much higher than canola oil. Also shelf life of Canola oil is 12 months which is much better than most of those other oils @ 6 months. Smoke point of Olive Oil (Extra Virgin)= 191 C & Canola Oil (refined) = 220 C. Canola omega 3 : omega 6 ratio is about 1:2 which is way better(except for flaxseed) than most of the others listed above.

    Nanoplastics and microplastics are found in the plastic bottles of these "cooking oils" and these are heated at high temperature. Imagine how these can be highly toxic to your body, in addition to the harmful effects of linoleic acid and trans fats.
    After spending 18 years in Asia on research work related to Immunotherapy, immunology and Gerontology, my advice is to avoid all processed foods and refined foods. Cooking oils (seed and fruit oils) are already refined and when you cook these oils again, you are further refining and processing these "together with the thousands of nanoplastics".
    Processed foods with added sugar and sugar substitutes are also "cell damaging", especially to our organs causing high inflammation, and as time goes by, will eventually develop into large scale, and higher degree of chronic inflammations and diseases.
    Even for butter and cheese, if you are using unpasteurized or raw butter / cheese, these are made so that you can take advantage of their nutrients without going through another round of cooking these as these are meant to be eaten as it is ... Raw.
    Our gut microbiome will be healthier if we consume more "enzyme-rich" foods which means raw (Japanese and Koreans frequently go for raw eggs, raw fish and seafoods), as well as some probiotic- and prebiotic- rich foods that include some fermented foods.
    👍✔️ ❤ The above content is highly commendable and I applaud Mike 👏 for this awesome research and I totally agree that the seed oils + carbs (starch) are equally detrimental as sugar.
