~~~~~ Lyrics ~~~~~
If I was an astronaut, I'd be floating in mid-air
And a broken heart would just belong, to someone else down there
I would be the centre of my lonely universe
But I'm only human, and I'm crashing down to earth
If I was an astronaut I’d have a birds eye view
I’d circle round the world And keep on coming back to you I
n my floating castle I’d rub shoulders with the stars
But I’m only human And I’m drifting in the dark
I'm up in space, man!
Up in space, man!
I’ve searched around the universe
Been down some black holes
There's nothing but space, man!
And I wanna go home
If I was an astronaut, I'd speak to satellites
My navigation systems would search for other life
But I'd be up here thinking 'bout what I left behind
'Cause I'm only human with the real world on my mind
I'm up in space, man!
Up in space, man!
I've searched around the universe
Been down some black holes
There's nothing but space, man!
And I wanna go home
Gravity keeps pulling me down
As long as you're on the ground, I'll stick around
Stick around
I'll stick around
I'm up in space, man!
Up in space, man!
I’ve searched around the universe
Been down some black holes
There's nothing but space, man!, no
Oh, I'm in the wrong place, man
Nothing but, nothing but, nothing but space, man!
Nothing but, nothing but, nothing but space, man!
I've searched around the universe
Been down some black holes
There’s nothing but space, man...
And I wanna go home
The Europolitical Song contest. Fair play to Ukraine but was it REALLY the best song?
Puerto Rico is with UK selection. Excellent lyrics.
Greetings from Germany. This is a good one, lads. But why are you guys quitting our neat little annaul battle for "Who comes in second to last"?
Since the football, we actually started to believe in ourselves again
Like you did in 2010
Don't worry, they won't vote for the song silly Billy 😁😆😆
I thought I would never see the day when the UK would pick a good song for Eurovision.
You're just not old enough!
Hey this is actually a trendy choice!
It won’t make any difference we won’t win. It will go to a lady with a beard on an e scooter.
@@alicehammond7438 LOL!
still waiting then?
Space Man was one small step for Sam, one giant leap for the United Kingdom at Eurovision. For those who are mad the UK didn't win, be grateful the nation made it in the top three for once! Sam did a phenomenal job and the fact everyone was and still is singing along to it speaks volumes. It is an earworm, a masterpiece of one
Ukraine needed that win, knowingly as uk is so supportive towards the country I think people shouldn't be mad about it. Sam is still a winner in everyone hearts!
TOTALLLY AGREEE:)))))!!!!
100% Agree! It's an earworm just as much as 'Love Shine a Light' still is.
According to sources on the web etc, we (Sam) got the highest ever jury vote (s) to date
@@CrimsonKnight_Gaming This is it.
To be honest, this definitely should be the winner. The song, the theme, the storytelling. Everything's perfect.
Totally agree!
Nooooooooooooo
I had tickles all over my body listening this outerwordly performance. You rocks Sam!
Yet we were jooped by Ukraine...
It’s a pity it didn’t win…
This sounds the most british music that UK has sent for a long time. I get reminded of Elton John, Sam Smith and 90's britpop/rock. Will definitely send a vote for this!
This hits the nail on the head. This is the beauty of UK music in a tight little package that has the ability to explode when opened.
Also very fun awkward scifi, like a Simon Pegg movies; Douglas Adams, Terry Prachett books… The most British entry in a very good way.
and freddie mercury voice
Sam Smith is crap
and a bit of ground control to Major Tom.
I remember the first time I heard «Love Shine a Light», I said this is going to win. Obviously we all know how that went. I got the exact same feeling when hearing Space Man, so I’ll say it again: this is going to win. Cheers from Norway🇳🇴
Really hope your right. Thank you so much to our neighbours to the north 😁
It’s a classic British song like “love shine a light”. London 2023? Let’s see…
I made the TOP 100 most viewed songs from Eurovision )
There's really no way anyone other than Ukraine is going to win this year.
It actually starts like "shine a light "...I think Malta has it in the bag this year....
I listened to the lyrics properly first time now. Actually quit deep song: about a person that is split between two worlds: dreaming and searching himself in space but at the same time missing home and things that really matter but happy 100% in neither of them. Very relatable.
To me, the true winner of Eurovision 2022.
As a Brit, I've been embarrassed by what we've sent off to Eurovision for the last 20 years, but this is actually Good!
But 25 years ago UK gave us the best song ever!
This is the best song of the competition, but for obvious reasons will come second.
“Blue - I can” was pretty good tho. Plus “Jada Ewen - It’s my time”
@@talp0ne747 wish I'd put a fiver on that :)
Lucie Jones was pretty good !
It's really strange seeing so many people from other countries actually genuinely liking our entry and hoping we do well. It's kind of nice for a change 😂🇬🇧🏴🏴🏴
THANK YOU EUROPE!!!!!!
I've just been having a scroll and a read. So much positivity. I don't actually believe my eyes!! Thanks Europe!
UK we love you for this 😍 you got my votes for sure, cheers from your neighbours in the east 🇳🇴🇳🇴
we had all that last year too, but we'll see if this appears to the majority to the eurovision demographic
@@MephProduction That is why I hope so much, that this year the singer can deliever it live on stage, too. No offense, but last year the singer was at times out of tune. If this year the singer is doing it well and the staging is good, you guys have all chances for a very good place. If he is live as good as in the video I will certainly call for him.
What a treasure, this pure gentle soul sound is so soothing and marvelous. His spirit is such a delight and his voice is a melodic hug from the universe.
Well said
I am a student in Korea. I listen to space man whenever I study. The lyrics are like a life story read by my father, which makes my heart warm.I love you, Samryder
I´d like to see this guy literally flying around the stage and the audience on the final of Eurovision
He won't be flying.
if not flying in a chair, a opened topped clear spaceship on wires
Yes! He needs to fly!
Its hard to sing those high notes flying around on a harness
Comparing what they have sent the last few years I almost could'nt believe this song will represent the UK on the Eurovison Songcontest. 12 Points from the Netherlands.
He's the complete package, Sam Ryder. A gifted songwriter, singer, showman and rock star while also being palpably sweet-natured. The BBC was lucky to find him and I think it's unlikely we'll field anyone as good as him for at least ten years.
Listening to this nearly 2 years later and I still think it's the best song to never win
My favorite song for Eurovision 2022! 🤩
For more than 10 years, I have been saying, "If the United Kingdom sent a good and ambitious song to Eurovision, I would choose them as my favorite." This dream finally came true this year.
Love and success from Azerbaijan to United Kingdom! 🇦🇿❤️🇬🇧
I’m absolutely IN LOVE with this! This has got to be UK’s breakthrough moment at Eurovision! 🇬🇧🏆
Our ‘breakthrough’ moment? On top of our 5 wins and 15 second places? Nice choice of words.
@@holydiver73 I think he means a new breakthrough, because UK has not been doing well last years. Last time they won was like when??
@@holydiver73 of course UK has a great legacy of fantastic Eurovision entries. But last few years were underwhelming. Feels like this could be the fresh new start I’ve been hoping for! 👍
im not sure, about that, i am a massive eurovsion fan, in fact i watch all the semi finals round which most fans dont watch any, it kind of a improvement, but it not the style that represent UK music and Charts hits, i think we do very well if we get Top 12 judging by the records this year.
As someone who works in artist management, who has to be super critical of music and artists, this is the first British Eurovision Song that I would love to go to #1! It’s beautifully written, performed and the lyrics are just magical! A well deserved Silver for the UK last night!
Having Amy Wadge who of course is a Grammy winner was a massive influence on this song. Nice to hear a comment from somebody who knows the business.
The lyrics are garbage. Seriously bad.
I can’t stop listening to this song. The real winner,
With all the solidarity for Ukraine, the UK had the best song this year, which is now certainly in the charts across Europe. 12 points from me.
Totally agree!!!
I'm from Ukraine and I agree with this statement. Sam's song is the best
Clearly, it would have been worth the 1st place!
Nahh i dont like this repeatable without any context songs plus the rhythm is just boring and i can find you like 40 songs with same boring rhythm , Ukraine had uniqueness, appeal and way better cultural representation .
One of the best UK entries in the ESC. I think and I wish to get a high rank. Good luck from Greece 🇬🇷 🇬🇧
And finally now his talent has been recognised in the official charts N02. Well done Sam Chris M UK
No2 in the BBC/OCC (official) charts but No1 in the Global/independent charts in the same week. The only difference between them is the one day's difference in when they are counted and announced.
For me he is the Winner.
He seems really charismatic and confident. I think he'll sell this song very well live and engage viewers. This could be the UKs Anouk moment, and hopefully it is, because the UK needs its talent to stop boycotting Eurovision.
Yes! Anouk changed everything for us! I am hoping at least top 10 this year for the UK! Maybe a win in the next few years like us! 😏 Good luck from the Netherlands!
The Anouk moment more people wanted than the original Anouk moment
He may have a stunning voice, and song is great but this is not for Eurovision, this reminds me of a incredible John Lewis Christmas Commercial Vibe so that very positive feedback, Not Eurovision, also as a fan of Eurovision and watch all the Semi Finals from 2008, i think it time that UK Should just start from Semi Final Rounds first , i know UK has a free pass to final (As the big 5 Countries) but i dont get that rule, you wouldn't get that in any sports pass to final work hard play hard.
@@bleeuk Eurovision is more subtle now. It's not the joke it used to be. This could win.
@@bleeuk The 5 countries get a free pass because they financially fund a massive amount of it to the EBU. It would not be possible to host such an expensive event such as Eurovision without the help of the 5 nations. Musiqidə siyasət olmur. Musiqi universaldır. Hər kəs öz istədiyi kimi anlayır hiss edir. Çoxları milliyətçi ruhunu üzə çıxarıb Azərbaycanın musiqisinin ən yaxşı olduğunu deyir. Bu necə düzgünlüktür? Özümüz bizə qarşı ədalətli davranmalarını istəyirik və sırf Azərbaycanlı olduğumuz üçün öz musiqimizin ən yaxşısı olduğunu deyirik. Musiqimiz pis deyil lakin nəzərə alaq ki, ən yaxşısı da deyil. Bu səbəblə əgər universal bir yarışma keçirilirsə obyektiv düşünüb elə qərara gəlmək lazımdır. Buna görə də, sizi alqışlayıram Murad Arif.
This is the uk’s strongest entry in years , has great potential to go all the way . Well done from Ireland
and I like Irish too. She did the Voice UK!! Northern Irish Brooke
the song sounds something that be massive in 2009 not 2022, i think it dated, it kind of improved as it been support heavy so far on radio, but the last 18 years has been great songs for UK but older type or dated backing, and this one is about 11-20 years out of date.
@@bleeuk Almost everything participating in Eurovision would be outdated in mainstream radio. The songs are designed for completely different things - one's to impress on stage, the other's to relate to the current public. I personally don't hear anything outdated with this at all, it could easily achieve radio airtime
@@sktzn6829 it is a great song im not doubting that but this music backing is like 2009 so it outdated unfortunately and that's the problem nothing to do with singers or song choices, it the style of backing and current times for UK, times have changed, this would of been a hit in the arena in 2009 not now i dont think but we will have to see ? it may surprise us and get in Top 12, i think if we had Dave, Stormzy, Glass Animals to Mimi Webb we would have a better chance
@@bleeuk Again, being outdated in the mainstream (unless glaringly obvious) doesn't affect chances in Eurovision at all. Keiino in 2019 sounded like smth from 2011 imo and easily sweeped the televote. When you say 'outdated', you need to make it relative to Eurovision, not mainstream radio. And this, relative to Eurovision, is not outdated. (Even relative to mainstream radio, it's not that outdated - it's already #1 on UK itunes)
Idk any of those other artists except Glass Animals and I can guarantee that even tho smth like Heat Waves is charting well, it would not do well in Eurovision.
Anyone else feel like we’re seeing the birth of a superstar here? Sam Ryder’s got one of those ‘once in a generation’ voices and has a great aura about him. Spaceman is a terrific song but Sam’s vocal just transcends and transforms it into something remarkable. We’ll all still be singing it in 20-years. It’s a stone cold classic!
12 points from Ireland 🇮🇪 to our neighbours the Uk 🇬🇧. I haven't been excited for a UK entry in quite a while. I did enjoy Lucy Jones' entry in 2017, but this is far more superior, IMHO. I was so delighted for the UK in 1997, winning with love shine a light by Kathrina and the waves, great memories. Spaceman is up there with love shine a light in terms of quality. I would be absolutely over the moon (no pun intended!) if the Uk won again after 25 years or even a top 5 finish would be great.
And your Brooke is NI!!! she entered our Voice but I didn't see it! very blondie/rogue readers/dragonette
@Collette Post Yes, I think Ireland has a decent eurovision entry this year also I hope it qualifies as Brooke deserves a place in the final.
BEST MALE VOCALIST OF THE ENTIRE CONTEST! Finally, UK, the glorious land of music and where countless legendary bands and iconic singers from the ’60s up to the 2020s thrived from, decided to send something of exquisite quality back to Eurovision! Sam Ryder’s vocal techniques are some of the most complicated I’ve seen in my life (considering I’m not a huge fan of pop in general), hitting perfectly both the high and the low notes without losing his rhythm and breath! HE GIVES ME INCREDIBLE "ELTON JOHN" AND "BEATTLES" ENERGY!
AND HIS ENTRY IS SO LEGENDARY! 😭❤ It’s entire meaning is to bring back joy and happiness to people, by telling them to cherish wisely what they already have and reminding them of their good moments and their innocent childhood ambitions! As for the music: MARVELLOUS BRITISH POP, infused with rock elements! Simply perfect! I couldn’t be more happy about them. Also, it's SO experimental but just because Sam has captured the theme of the song title perfectly through the music (almost space-y, “out of this world”), it works so nicely! ANOTHER ENTRY THAT *CAPTURES THE ESSENCE OF THE SOUND OF BEAUTY* (FOR UK) THIS EUROVISION SEASON! The whole song is a proffessional, brilliantly orchestrated piece of art! It’s comforting, it’s brightful and energetic, it’s an absolute vibe! INCREDIBLE!
That’s the formula to doing well at Eurovision, not some generic songwriting-camp music. Juries will love this and the televote will also give you points!
Haha juries are 🤡
Leťs hope they’ll actually put an effort into staging, cause this song is hop or trop.
And it has a potential for a good stage presence. But also for a very bad stage presence 😂
@@andsometimesigoupstairs You are absolutely right.🤣 There is humour in the song which is picked up well in 'audience reactions' in the clip. After all , children do dream of becoming astronauts, but this is a grown man singing about it. The song has a certain charm and might get a few points provided Sam Ryder can keep the slightly satirical edge with whatever staging he is given. If it flops then I think UK should pull out of Eurovision for couple of years and find a different focus. After all, other countries have done that over the years including Italy which came back with songs that scored well. This song made me laugh out loud a couple of times which is not a bad thing I guess and if Sam has so many followers it is for a good reason.
Going to go against the grain here to say that this is yet another formulaic song that's come off the BBC conveyor that we've had foisted on us without having a say. As a song it's not bad, but haven't we heard this before somewhere? Also Sam needs to have a word with his tailor as it appears as though his overly tight trousers are affecting his vocals. Even so, it sounds like quite a few tracks James Blunt produced in 2016/7 I think. I'm not sure if it's progressive enough for Eurovision now? Personal opinion of course but thought I'd open a fun debate :)
Sam Ryder actually wrote this song a long time ago, like a year ago, it was already a full-fledged song before it was chosen for Eurovision
is it a joke?
LMAO ikr
Definitely the best.
Amazing, what positive energy! Thanks for this song Sam! 👋😁🇷🇸 Greetings from Serbia!
This song is so beautiful, what a strong song from United Kingdom, I hope UK will win Eurovision Song Contest this year, they deserves it congratulations. 12 points from France to United Kingdom
Thank you 🙏🏻 France also has an amazing entry this year, my #1 Greetings from U.K. and enjoy the show 😄🇬🇧💕🇫🇷
United Kingdom are my favorite for Eurovision Song Contest this year
12 points from France to United Kingdom
Come on United Kingdom you can do this, Let's bring the Eurovision Song Contest to United Kingdom
This is by far the best UK entry for - decades? Well done, United Kingdom!
I am from Greece and your voice reminds me of Demmi Rousos ♥️🇬🇷
I think all us Greeks thought about that! His voice is gorgeous! ❤️
I'm literally obsessed with this song I can't stop listening to it he's got such a good voice and he did really well in the 2022 Eurovision
I’m Ukrainian, and fall in love with the voice.
To me, the UK singer is the best ☺️☺️☺️
Thanks to Ukraine for giving us 12 points. ❤️
Ukraine won because of pity.
@@DaynoG33k It was an opportunity for the world to show its support ❤️
@@DaynoG33k mate it’s really not that big a deal 😂 Ukrainians really doesn’t have much going for them right now, and the song was actually pretty good. Besides, it’s really not like they’re going to be able to host next year, so it’s probably going to be in the UK anyway
@@DaynoG33k Was it really necessary to point that out? Did you lose out on a bet or something?
Pls Europe dont be biased against UK again this time! This song is amazing and deserves at least top 10 if not top 5!! Im from the Philippines and freakin love this song!!
Hug from UK
omg another filo eurofan 👀 i agree tho UK deserves a top spot this year
That may depend on the Turin staging, though.
The real winner of ESC 2022 ❤️❤️🔥🏆
Sam Ryder had an impact on the UK at Eurovision.
Shows them that despite the last place finishes, and all the nul points, we were the kings & queens of the contest.
5 wins, 15 second place finishes.
All before 2000.
After that we weren’t so great. 2 nul points, and only 2 top 10 finishes, 2002, 2009.
Make that 3 top 10 finishes. And 16 second place finishes!
Sam wasn’t just a space man, he was the United Kingdom’s Eurovision saviour.
Even tho he was 2nd, he might be the *best* ever UK Eurovision entry. Better than Brotherhood of Man, better than Katrina & the Waves, even better than Bucks Fizz!
The UK had it’s entire golden age back. All with a space man. ✨🇬🇧🎶🚀
Last year's UK entry after 1 year has only 2.7 million views. This song after only 13 days has 1.2 million. What does that say? I'm incredibly proud of our song this year that I genuinely feel we could win the contest. I'm very excited to see what will happen ☺️
Certainly helps that he has a good audience in TikTok too
It's miles better
The best UK entry since 1997, 12 points from Spain
Out of all of the songs this year this song means the most to me
This sounds so good
This is by far the best UK entry in a very very long time. This has to do well, his voice is too good and the song is so well produced and so good!! If the UK doesn't at least get the left side of the scoreboard, it'll be a crime.
Im British and for once I am proud of our entry. Go Space Man!
Snap. It's a bit of genius it sounds like our Christmas John Lewis advert songs and a bit of Elton/Clapton etc with the Sheeran modern sound
“For once”
Have you ever picked up a history book?
@@karlosthejackel69 I don't need a history book but I can't remember a decent UK entry since we last won it 15 years ago. I had that particular song play at my wedding. But do feel free to share any recent entries you've been proud of. Gina G??
@@tonyblackmore8349 I do apologise, I misread what you wrote. But isn’t the point to submit a weird entry? Anyone foreign, man dressed as woman, gay…. Anything ‘progressive’
@@karlosthejackel69 I think the point is to submit a brilliant song by a fantastic singer who's authentic with their own act. Sam Ryder ticks all three boxes. It doesn't matter to me about the weird factor. Conchita Wurst was 'progressive' but she also ticked all three boxes. I think I've said enough for this thread! I was initially just making a quick comment on Sam and how surprisingly proud I am for once on our UK entry. That's it!
I love it And we can all agree it has won our ❤️ and his personality is adding to the charm. Love from Poland 🇬🇧🇵🇱
I never let my tears dropped on my eyes. only THIS song brings crying. He was so talented 😲
You’re saying it as if he’s died
@@discussion2441
Well he didn’t win, so the ‘was’ is appropriate. He was so talented yet he didn’t win because it was stolen from him.
I hope United Kingdom doesn't get 0 points again because this is a song. UK has come back to Eurovision as well as many other countries this year. Congratulations Sam from Spain🇪🇸🇪🇸🇪🇸🥰🥰🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧
Thanks so much for your sincere likes and compliments,I hope you won't stop listening to my music ❤️❤️❤️🥰🥰❤️❤️
@Nicola Bean As an Spanish, i am telling you, the rest of the participants that were on the spanish eurovision contest were really good too, please search them out!!
Félicitations U.K. Vive la Reine, l'Eurovision et space m'en!🥰
Ukraine are up there. Stefanie reminds me of Stephanie on the Apprentice and
I think after many years UK has something to take from Eurovision 2022!! Good luck from Greece!!!
I am so happy to read your message, my friend. I totally agree with you. I hope Greece can be succesful in this year. I have really loved Greek song. Good luck 💕💕💕
The best song for a long time in Eurovision. Thank you Sam Ryder!
