Because it was the right call. A timely logical decision from the professional referee Mike Goddard and a mature non emotional understanding from the Samurai has saved his own brain from a lifetime of CTE and other brain complications. I applaud both gentlemen for being Professional and efficient at their job
It's incredible how calm and composed Jiri has dealt with this defeat. Only he himself knows how he feels inside. But he didn't show anything on the outside except respect for the referee and respect for his opponent.

Joe and especially DC know what a good stoppage looks like. They weren't crying. They spoke from experience. It wasn't a horrible stoppage, but it was early.
Jiri is too humble for his own good he said Dominick Reyes knocked him out too and also hated his performance against glover but we all know this guy could have came back from that the same way he beat Glover. I already see everyone pointing to this interview to dispute the early stoppage but I think Jiri is just being too humble
"Could have come back" is not equivalent to "early stoppage". If a fighter is out, the ref is supposed to step in.

In this fight, he got rocked, went for a takedown attempt or tried to defend himself and got ko'd with strikes to the head and his arm went limp before they both fell to the mat and the ref called it.
Theres a doctor that also broke down the fight and put a perspective on it that made sense to why the ref seen it and made a good call.
Plus it's a refs job to stop unnecessary damage to a fighter.
Otherwise you'll bring back Mario yamasaki or whatever his last name was

I think your reasoning is perfectly rational but people who really know how Jiri behaves know. In his own language he expresses a lot more, this is just a thing he would say to humble himself as much as possible. Probably going to some dark room to mediate upon it now. It's not really like Jiri was lying, it's just that he would say that both in good and in premature stoppage. I don't mind Pereira being a champ but man, that was a terrible stoppage - he was rolling back into defensive position and we've seen Jiri come back from flash knockouts before... Goddard robbed us of a potentially great fight.

early stoppage? yes. but imo it wasn’t completely terrible, especially looking from the refs perspective. he just got dropped, he tried standing up, and then he fell onto his back as his arms seemed to go limp for a split second. i understand why the ref stopped the fight, it looked like he was out and he himself said he was out.
If the fighter passes out even for a second, the fight can be stopped. It was fair, Jiry said himself

Idk how to feel about this fight.. I was supporting Alex but Jiri won me over with his heart after eating those leg kicks. Early stoppage drama and multiple elbows to the back of his head completely unnoticed. Potential to be fight of the year yet it underdelivered. Need to see this rematch asap!
Elbows were to the temple/side of the head. Those were clean. Early stoppage is arguable because Jiri grabbed Alex’s leg but went limp after taking the elbows to the head, then fell backwards. He definitely lost consciousness in that moment, which is when the fight was stopped, but regained consciousness when he hit the ground. But Alex would’ve been in full mount had the fight continued so
