As a big ufc fan I can’t help but agree with all these foreign fighters, only way I know to describe them sorry, come in with much different and much stronger beliefs and convictions. I think it’s a full fledged display of how much stronger their beliefs are. Especially as an American it sucks, like yes these guys are incredible and yes they have worked their asses off to get there as Americans, but you see them losing constantly. Despite how incredible our American reps are they lose and that’s because of much stronger convictions, it’s a representation of the country’s spirit and the US is losing unfortunately these days

Didn’t know all of Tony’s back story and knowing it now hurts even more seeing him continue to fight. I know we all wanna see him come back and be El Cucuy again, but honestly after that Gaethje fight, he hasn’t been the same. Having the issues he’s had and not really confronting them head on seriously and continuing to fight will not end well. He entertained us as one of the scariest fighters ever in the UFC, and proved he’s a warrior. Time to hang it up and take care of himself and his family.

    • @zacharyarmendariz1033

It's painful but beautiful at the same time. After the Gaethje fight I've noticed that he is not the same fighter and it breaks my heart, but a core part of what made Tony so special was his inability to give up or break and how he relished in chaos. As much as I loved watching him fight, I hope he can find peace and hang it up. Watching that Bobby Green submission where he refused to tap even when the submission was cinched in tight and he was clearly losing oxygen to the brain. It's easy to judge his flaws, but you can't argue with his toughness. It's sad to watch him break, but it's also inspiring to see the sheer will of this man. His mental strength to keep pushing even after the rest of his nervous system has already given out, I don't think I've ever seen that before. In a twisted way, I think the true beauty behind Tony's character is in him continuing to push on failure after heart wrenching failure. In his prime that was the same thing that made him so exciting to watch. His ability to find a path to victory even in the most insane circumstances that would spell defeat for any other fighter. I want him to hang it up out of concern for him, but I also realize that hanging it up goes against so much of what Tony stands for. In a way the ugly ending is a fitting and beautiful conclusion to the story of a man that has never accepted defeat.

I have been following Tony since The Ultimate Fighter; I have been his fan since the beginning, great hands speed, and a very solid ground game... El Cucuy. The saddest thing in this sport is to see him getting down the hill. That reality, unfortunately. But thank you ever Tony for the many years of great fights you gave us!! I would dream of seeing Tony in his prime versus Kabib in his prime: that is the dream fight.

I'm afraid his family is not able to have an intervention on him to retire, all the best for you Tony for your incoming fight. I'm hoping you won, and hang your gloves and lives well.

A great win? A great win would be his immediate retirement and full attention to his current AND FUTURE medical issues. Getting in the cage again is a lose -lose scenario. One more fight isn't gonna set him up financially. One more win isn't gonna make it all okay. It's just one more chance for him to take more damage and make the problems he's currently dealing with WORSE. And sadly, to accelerate the CTE issues that are basically a *certainty* at this time. Tony is gonna be just one more name that gets added to the pile of mma/boxing legends that had their lives either abruptly ended or drastically shortened because of CTE/brain damage. And for you stupid fucks that love to say shit like "Well he knew the risks" or "I'm sure it was worth it".....not only is that utter fucking nonsense, being that it's still a largely taboo topic in contact/fight sports. But do any of you morons really think that he'd do it all over again if he knew it meant he wouldn't be able to watch his children grow up? That the only real memories they'll have of him are the heartbreaking ones where they spent the last 10-20 years of his life taking care of him (and not his 70-90s....more like his 50-60s)? Desperately looking for medical "cures" or any help only to realize that there is none? Oh and the ones there MIGHT be are definitely not for ex-fighters and anyone middle class or lower?
This isn't a scenario that's wayyy down the line either so don't kid yourselves. This has already begun awhile ago. Watch an interview with Tony from 10 years ago and watch one from this year. Then know that it's basically unquestionable that 10 years from now he'll be exponentially worse. Sadly he'll be just one more name in a seemingly never ending list. Many mma and UFC legends are already on it, the coming decade or so is just gonna add names that ALL of us now. Hell, we've already seen guys like Hughes and Lidell become shells of themselves (granted a train contributed to Hughes but that "accident" stems directly from the cte).
Also, because I'm sure some twat will read this and make some snide comment about how "well YOU watch!"....no, I actually don't. I stopped watching both mma and boxing (and football for that matter) about 5 years ago when I couldn't consciously be a hypocrite anymore. Also happends to be right before I started helping 2 local ex-boxers, that nobodies ever heard of (seriously never even broke into the top 10 during their "prime"), as they lose everything that makes them human day by day....all at 57 and 53 respectively. I know they'd sell their souls to be able to walk, tie their shoes, feed themselves....hell just to be CAPABLE.

That fight with Justin was a physical beatdown. I don't think there is anyone else, in any division who could have endured that at length and not given up. He has the mentality to endure/overcome but does not recognise that his body is no longer in parallel.
I really hope someone is paying close attention to his mental health. Once all this fight game is done and dusted there is going to be a lot for Tony to deal with in his head. With all his previous behaviour how can no one be looking into CTE??? He's taken real punishment causing brain damage and his behaviour may be a reflection of that.

What an amazing short documentary Patrick! We got to see the ebb and flow of Tony Ferguson's life inside and outside of the octagon. What is so heartbreaking about Ton's downfall actually has nothing to do with his recent losses in MMA, but rather a mental health struggle with what looks like bipolar disorder, which explains his bizarre behavior at times. Tony mocked Khabib for having “homeboys”, but in the end the loner lifestyle and mindset Tony followed was a huge part of his downfall. No one there to truly call him brother, no respect for authority and played to the fans who were just there because they were amused by his antics. Khabib learned and humbled himself after his weight cut mistake, that speaks well of his upbringing and who he surrounds himself with. Tony needed homeboys.
