The son, the father, and the holy spirit. This is the trinity, one of the most interesting and highly debated doctrines in all of Christianity. God, in 3 parts. From its conception, there have been many disagreements on the nature of Christ. Things concerning his divinity and his relationship to God. The modern view of the trinity is one of the most mysterious and incomprehensible doctrines in Christianity. Was Jesus God? Was Jesus possessed by God's spirit? Were Jesus and God two separate but equal beings? Was Jesus human? Was Jesus just a prophet? These questions have plagued Christianity since it's conception. This doctrine is the untouchable doctrine of Christianity and it continues to become more complicated as time goes on. Why is this? What were the early Christian ideas? What contentions were brought up? and how have these ideas changed over time? These are just some of the questions I set out to answer in this video.

The reality is the trinity is a simple contrivance - a mere artifice of human imagination of fairly ignorant, uneducated, ego-centric, young men from the third, fourth and fifth centuries... who are so filled with superstition as to be choosing at every pore.

Yeah, I was definitely not buying it, esp after learning everyone who says it, either has a different definition, or they didn’t have a clue what it meant, most ppl explain Modalism, but have never actually questioned what it means; let alone, the verses involved in why we believe it. Many times, they call themselves 1st century christians because the idea hadn’t fully developed into written word yet. Some who rejected it were even persecuted & martyrd for their heresy down the line.

Wow, this was very enlightening. I've been fed this lie that the trinitarian view was the original doctrine of the early christians, but here we see clearly the development of the doctrine. Maybe political reasons were involved, but I no longer believe that the trinity was the original teaching of Jesus Christ and His disciples.

2000 years ago, the Roman and Greek Empire with its culture and mythological and pagan roots already held the beliefs such as "God coming down in human form". So after witnessing just a single "miracle" from Paul the deceiver they were conforming to their already held beliefs. No wonder when they heard of this guy Jesus with all the stories of his miracles, it was very easy for them to take him as "Son of God" (and this concept later on developed in to taking him as God) as this already went hand in hand with their pagan and mythological belief system. Little wonder that those times and those places and people also had "Triads" and ancient "Trinities" and "God" in threes and stuff.

I watched this video in its entirety and sincerely appreciate all your research. I have to keep in mind that these early "church fathers" had government backing and severely persecuted all those that opposed their school of thought. They were responsible for the murder of millions throughout their reign. They removed much if not all the Hebrew names that referenced the creator. Even the name Jesus is a replacement. Why? Surely they were able to pronounce the name Yahusha. I see a lot of ancient Babylon religion influence in this video and sort of understand why John saw this system as a beast. Excellent video! Thanks for posting this. I seldom hear much about the debates and conflicts within Christianity from 100 to 300 A.D., but they explain a lot about the weird doctrines that ultimately evolved.

Nice video, I always explained the trinity with instanceism (a concept I though about while learning programming (I think it resembles modeisim)). There is one abstract God-process, but 3 God threads that all report back to the process and get instructions from it. Well I would have been excommunicate quiet quickly back in the day.

James Kirk Wall: One problem, I think, is that there are certain key passages in the Old Testament where god basically declares himself singular and superlative - which means Jesus has to be at least a rung below. Secondly, the Gospels contradict each other.

By the way, the OT was not monotheistic. "Don't put other gods before me," strongly implies that there are , or there will be , other gods.

He just could not digest the explicit and emphatic Trinity-Destroying testimony of Jesus Christ in John 17:3 that he attempted to MUTILATE the whole thing completely so that it would place Jesus side by side with the Father and together they would be declared “the only true God.” Dissatisfied with what John 17:3 says, Augustine writes the following in Tractate 105 of his Homilies on the Gospel of John:
“But this, saith He, is life eternal, that they may know Thee [the Father] the only true God, and Jesus Christ, Whom Thou hast sent. The [proper] order of the words is: “That Thee [the Father] and Jesus Christ whom Thou hast sent, they may know to be the only true God.”
The clear and emphatic, Islamic, unitarian message of John 17:3 was far too disagreeable to Augustine that he was willing to completely MUTILATE what was there in the scripture. And he was not alone in such an irresponsible enterprise.
THE ONLY TRUE GOD - THE FATHER - exposes such kind and destroys such abominations that Christians attribute to HIM and Jesus.

A piece from a book titled ZTingar regarding Trinity...
Ztingar has been instantly captivated by the sentence ‘In the beginning, the word already existed’. His eyes narrow as he concentrates deeply, trying hard to work out what this profound, insightful and intriguing quotation is actually saying. But after several moments of deliberating, the only explanation he can come up with is that a word (or words) appears to be the likely fundamental underlying representation of the meaning of God and of all existence. Some of the other words representing the Almighty that Ztingar has ever heard mentioned have included names such as Elohim, Jehovah, Yahweh, Adonai and Allah. He wonders whether the phrase Nam-myoho-renge-kyo could be another representation of the same.
Next to appear is a description of God, according to Paul the Apostle. . . 'Through everything that God has made, we can clearly see His invisible qualities, eternal power and divine nature. And we know that God causes everything to work together.'
Ztingar feels as though he’s just been struck by a massive thunderbolt. The amazingly strong similarity to Gang-Gang’s description of Life’s Mystic Law is glaringly obvious to him. He immediately interprets ‘invisible qualities’ as being equal to ‘mystic’-eternal power’ as the thread of Life Force or ‘kyo’-‘divine nature’ as the Law of Nature or ‘myoho’, and ‘causes everything to work together’ as the Law of Cause and Effect or ‘renge’. It’s an almost mirror-perfect description of Life’s Mystic Law and as far as Ztingar’s concerned the correlation is unmistakable.
The words all change and he continues to read more. . . 'Although we presently see things imperfectly, as in a cloudy mirror, we’re capable of seeing everything with perfect clarity and knowing everything completely as God knows us. Corinthians 13:12'
Again Ztingar is awestruck and sees this description as being almost identical to what Gang-Gang taught about one’s present state of limited knowledge in comparison to reaching one’s Enlightenment. It has also allowed Ztingar to clearly see that just like Gang-Gang had explained to the animals, the true identity and meaning of Buddha and God is essentially the same. In fact, the only differences that he’s able to distinguish between the two are the many variations and interpretations that have been created by humankind and handed down throughout the ages. He thinks that some are so perverted from the real truth that they promote hatred and prejudice instead of compassion and love, as well as cause some people to be deceitful and make premature, cruel and often unjust judgements upon each other. Even worse than that, many of the interpretations motivate some people to kill and destroy one another. “How the hell can so many people be so goddamned narrow-minded ‘n’ dumb?” Ztingar asks himself, realising at the same time that he’s been equally as foolish for doing it as anyone else-probably even more so. He pauses for a moment to contemplate what he knows about the Holy Trinity, how the Father, the Son and the Holy Ghost or Spirit is a combination of three different entities but is all the same one, God. From what he can recall, all three are in perfect harmony with each other, co-eternal, co-equal and co-powerful and should any one of them be removed, there would be no God.
Out of curiosity, Ztingar had once surfed the Internet looking for a scientific explanation of the Holy Trinity but was only ever able to find the usual spiritual interpretations. By comparing it now to the description of Life’s Mystic Law, he believes that he’s finally found an answer that makes a lot of scientific sense. He sees the Father as being a representation of the Law of Nature, the Son Jesus as representing the Law of Cause and Effect (mainly because Jesus taught that we reap what we sow) and the Holy Ghost or Spirit as the Law of Communication. Another similarity is that if any one of these three laws was removed, the others would no longer be able to exist.
First, what god is needs defining. Is it everything combined into one or does it exist outside of its creation/everything?

Agreed. the Catholics/Orthodox were there in the 1st century and we know that they thought the Father Son and Spirit were divine and called the Son God. And we see the language of consubstantiality at least as early as Irenaeus. Of course you have to know what the doctrine of the Trinity is to see this. Many people just don't know what the doctrine actually is. And there were some pretty strange sectarian teachings. I'm sure you've read the stuff Irenaeus documented or the gnostic texts! So many wild beliefs. This is a source of confusion for people today.
I love seeing Unitarians read the apostolic fathers conclude that they were unitarians because they though the Father alone is uncaused. Trinitarians have always believed that the Father is the only uncaused cause!

Erasmus was NOT the first Greek translation of New Testament, the New Testament was written in Greek and the Vulgate was translated FROM the Greek, and the Greek Orthodox community had Greek New Testaments LONG before Erasmus! Erasmus was in fact the SECOND Greek New Testament to be printed as a book rather than copied as a manuscript, some sloppy research from the get go.
I think it means the first greek bible in western Europe.

Which John would you be referring to, John the apostle or John of Patmos for the revelations book? The bible is a mess and anyone who reads it properly can see it. 2000 years of deception ,apologetics, spin doctoring, harmonizing, forging, murdering and eventual state control have ensured this myth has triumphed over all the other saviour cults in the region. The gospel of John is so far removed from the gospel of Mark you'd struggle to see the connection between the two Bejesuses. Chosen man by God or God incarnate? One year ministry or three? I think Russell's theory of descriptions could really come in handy here.
Luke 3:22 doesn't say "You are my beloved son, today I have begotten you", it says "You are my beloved son in you I am well pleased". There is a variant that says the former, but most translations don't include as it is mostly found in later latin manuscripts rather than earlier greek ones. Just thought you should know as some might use that to diminish everything else you said in the video

From the beginning of the Bible to the end of Malachi I have not found any reference to Jesus, all of the sudden appeared the New Testament and the introduction of this person Jesus who sacrifice himself as a human instead of a bull ( human sacrifice ) forbidden by the true God of Abraham Isaac and Jacob.

I’ve always found the Trinity confusing, and yet its always basically said to me... God as father is GOD. God as son is humanity personified in Jesus. God as Holy Spirt is that which we feel but can’t describe verbally. I know that that is not what is as of me when pledging allegiance to in the Nicene Creed, which as as always bothered me.

one important issue with citing mark 10:18 is that it uses the aspect of apophasis, following the understanding that much of the Bible was not spoken entirely for the people present, and also this aspect of "divine foolishness," that leads to similitude.
I never heard word one about this trinity thingy. I was brought up Mormon. It was called the "Godhead", and alway three separate beings. Gawd and Jeebus were both supposed to have been men of flesh, and are now possessing bodies made of "spirit matter". Montanism! One reason why I became "Mormon", among many, was the rejection of the trinity. The Bible is very clear that the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit are 3 distinct persons. When Stephen was getting stoned and looked up into heaven, and saw two Beings, the mount of transfiguration, the baptism of Jesus, the great Intercessory Prayer in John 17, Jesus on the cross, and two great scripture pointed out in Mark in this video...all show that the Father and the Son are "one" in purpose, but not the same being. They are separate and distinct.
Abraham offering up his son Isaac was done in the similitude of God Almighty's offering for mankind. It was a foreshadow of the great and last sacrifice which was to be offered. A Father, sacrificing his Son, the Lamb of God, the Christ.

Did you really try going down the route that the Book of Mormon has textual changes to it? SHAME !!! Don't you know that the vast majority of those errors were grammatical in nature? Nothing of significant doctrinal substance? Many of that which has been changed from the first edition also sounded much better in substance and style in Hebrew. Don't you know how many revisions and additions and subtractions are associated with the Bible?
We are not saved by our works. We are saved by faith. Our faith, TRUE FAITH, changes our hearts, and leads us to good works. If we say we have faith, but do not show it by our works, then we do not have faith, just a belief. We are not saved by our beliefs, but by FAITH in CHRIST. There is no other name given under heaven whereby man might be saved, only in and through the name of Christ.
By your definition (and I am not doing this mockingly), how might I be saved? I believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, the only begotten of the Father, the savior of mankind, who came to save us from our sins, who died for our sins, who rose again the 3rd day and ascended to his Father. I believe in this. I accept it. Am I, by your definition, not saved?

Something to consider is that even if Jesus as Son of God, Messiah and Savior did this for you, and even if Jesus is all of these things, this does not prove that Jesus is God or prove the 4th century catholic church originated doctrine of the three person trinity God. Christians' own bible and Jesus Himself speak overwhelmingly against these ideas but religious men forced these ideas into acceptance and popularity as Dogma. As such, Trinity Dogma is widely accepted by modern day religious system conformists who are submitting themselves under the institutionalized religious system lest they be labeled as heretics by the religious powers that be and their prosthelytes.

The best way to explain this concept is that it developed gradually.
You won’t find it anywhere in the Pauline letters, the oldest writings in the New Testament.
You won’t find it in the Gospel of Mark, the oldest of the four gospels, likely written around 70 CE.
You won’t find it in either Matthew or Luke, both probably written in around 80-90 CE.
The closest thing you'll find to it is in John, the last of the Gospels usually dated 90-110 CE. Despite the traditional ascriptions all four are anonymous, and none were written by eyewitnesses. Like the rest of the New Testament, they were written in Greek.
And by the time you get to it, something has evidently changed in the Christian community, which has gone from mostly Jewish to mostly non-Jewish. The original followers believed that Jesus was a man who had been anointed by God because of his righteousness. They kept Shabbat and were basically Jewish apocalypticists who just happened to see Jesus as the Jewish Messiah through whom the Jewish God would bring about the redemption of the Jewish people. One of the unintended consequences of bringing in so many gentiles into the new faith was that ideas which could never have gained widespread popularity among Jews, such as the divinity of a man, were all of a sudden very possible, especially since the population of converts were ancient Mediterranean pagans, for whom the idea of divine and semi-divine men was very common.
Slowly, Jesus went from Chosen One of God to Son of God to God. By the time the Gospel of John is written, all Jesus is doing is going around talking about his divinity.
But in spite of all this, the only mention of something like the Trinity is in the First Epistle of John:
7 For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one.
8 And there are three that bear witness in earth, the Spirit, and the water, and the blood: and these three agree in one.
Seems clear enough. But there is a huge problem. The books of the New Testament were written in Greek. You can find this passage in the Vulgate, a version of the Bible translated from Greek to Latin. But the passage is not found in any of the old Greek manuscripts. In fact, you don’t find it in any Greek manuscript in the first millennium. It’s not until the 14th century that you find a Greek manuscript containing this passage! This is a medieval fabrication, fabricated precisely because people were bothered by the fact that the Trinity had no basis whatsoever in scripture.
Here’s how the passage originally appears in Greek:
7 For there are three that testify:
8 the Spirit, the water and the blood; and the three are in agreement.
No mention of the Father, Son, Holy Spirit/Ghost formulation we are so familiar with. Where, then, did this come from?
One of the easiest ways to get into trouble as a medieval theologian was to write a treatise on the Holy Spirit. If you did this, you would immediately find scores of people who strongly disagreed with you. Because the concept of the Holy Spirit is so ill-defined in scripture, the void is filled by imagination, and this imagination manifests itself very differently in different people.
Something like that seems to have happened with the nature of Christ in the early centuries of Christianity. You had all kinds of groups arguing about whether Jesus was all human or all divine, whether he had one nature or two, whether he was the same person as God the Father, or a different one.
People like Marcion thought the Old Testament deity was an evil deity that had nothing to do with the God of Jesus. People like the Modalists thought that Jesus, the Father, and Spirit were just different modes of being of the same person. The Father was father to the Son, just as my father is father to me and son to his father. There were people who thought that Jesus was all divine and just appeared to have had a body. And there was one group who was opposed to all these groups. Theirs was an ill-defined position. They just knew that:
(1) They didn’t think Jesus was fully human: he was divine, son of God, but not created, True God, deum verum, dammit.
(2) They didn’t think he was fully divine: he had a real body that bled, dammit.
(3) There weren’t 3 modes of the same person. Elsewise, whom was Jesus praying to when he was on the cross? To himself?
This group with ill-defined beliefs ended up winning the political battle. They saw themselves as orthodox-that is of right/correct belief/doctrine-and everyone else as heretics. And they codified their beliefs in the Nicene Creed.
The Trinitarian Christology that emerged from their rejection of other beliefs is the only thing they could come up with that would meld their various stances into one sort of coherent whole. Because the result still didn’t make logical sense, it required faith to accept it as a mystery.
