We Built the World's First Longitudinal Engine Mini Bike | Budget Big Block Briggs!

- Welcome to the Sidewinder mini bike build! We took an 11 horsepower Briggs and Stratton Industrial engine and jammed it in a small mini bike frame. We decided that engine would fit much better if we rotated it 90 degrees counter clockwise in the frame, so that the crankshaft is facing the rear tire. In order to send power to the rear wheel, we used a 90 degree PTO box, aka "Magic Box" as we call it. It's not quite finished, but this budget big block mini bike is turning out awesome!

i have that exact motor and i'm putting it on a lawn boy mower maybe one day i'll make it to mini mayhem.
you could use same concept with a big block 20hp mower engine !

The 'PTO' shaft on the Magic Box would be an excellent place for a disk brake!
how often they have chains come off, I don't think relying on it for brakes is a good idea

Yes, except if we lose a chain, we lose the brake. We're gonna do our best to put it on the axle.

ike as narrator and supervisior, and charles as labor and test pilot works really well. i guess that makes john management. but you can hear the sad in ike's voice from wanting to be wrenching, rather than watching. now he knows how we feel.

I hate the guy. The biggest mistake this channel has made. They can add all the new people they want, working off camera. This new guy sucks and just annoys the heck out of me. Would be fine if they kept him off camera, but I don’t like seeing him.

Tote Gote had a mini bike that was mass produced with a engine mounted that way back in the 60s
Charles is some humble dude, a lot of people can hate his way of been but he's a def a keeper, cool dude, cool he joined the team guys
This build reminds me of a build a friend of mine did .... way back in 1965. He home built a mini bike frame out of angle steel (L shape). He couldn't afford a vertical Briggs motor, so he bought a lawn mower and stole the engine off of it, mounted with the shaft facing the ground. His magic box, was a gear box off an old washing machine ... that actually had a lever so as to be able to switch direction ... so he had reverse on his mini bike. While he was building that, I bought a rusted mini bike frame, had a vertical Briggs motor, but couldn't afford a centrifugal clutch with chain drive ... so I bought a belt drive ... fashioned a jack shaft, so as to go from belt on motor and jack shaft, to gear on jack shaft and rear wheel. I had a low top end, but could have pulled a truck with it ... my buddy could have driven completely in reverse if he could have kept the balance.

He is a horrible addition to the channel. I have been a fan of the Ike and John show since their 3rd video, but this hack has me close to unsubscribing. I will miss the channel and watching Ike, but I can’t deal with that Charles guy.

Dude is just a hack. Worst thing this channel has ever done is put that guy on camera. I’ve been around since their 3rd video and am close to unsubbing over this guy. This has always been the Ike and John show, keep anyone else off camera.

I've got a horizontal shaft briggs I was going to do something like this with. Give my son a proper education as he didn't care about the tuning part a year ago. Now he's older and many times more curious!
I enjoyed this boys.I think yall can get kids and fathers motivated to share a project together.I used to do this stuff years ago.life lessons when you do it with your hands.

I had a Tule Tropper back in the 80s that was set up like that! Had a 7 horsepower Briggs and a two speed gearbox! That thing would go through mud and snow like a mad dog! Awesome build guys!

I believe you would do a similar design to this only elevating the engine so thst the shaft on the bottom could go to the pto that would simply be turned up.

I built one out of a McCulloch chainsaw engine in 1964. Sorry, beat you to it. And after that I built a twin engine Power Products powered minibike with the two engine chained together and the cranks 180 degrees apart. It was super smooth and very cool.

I'd love to see a second lawn mower with a predator and a "magic box" so you can still use the lawn mower transaxle

They used it originally but it wouldn't hold up long enough for them to continue to use it the transaxle kept shredding themselves
A transaxle is junk. Buy a peerless 700. I race gokart an the tractors are using peerless trans take first an reverse out an it will spin even faster

I have one of these engines straight piped and it has a 30mm atv carb and it sounds like an atv, rpm screamer for sure!

The stall speed appears to be a little high on that clutch. With that torque monster engine you dont need much stall speed.
