Gr8 video. 2 things, U can paint over Ospho IF USING OIL BASED PAINT. Please don't use Ospho then shoot epoxy cause it will not stick. Ask me how I know this. If using Ospho with other than rustoleum type paints u must reactivate ospho with more ospho, let sit 5 min, then rinse with lots of water or baking soda water mix, then quickly dry. I've made tge mistake of being in a rush and sprayed over ospho and the primer and paint bubbled and wouldn't stick. Best thing is to ask the mfg. I talked to a older fella a ppg. He said they stopped telling ppl about acid cause to many would not do this step and paint job would need redone. I've used Ospho for 3 decades. Works gr8. Saved me lots of time, work and money. But u can't skip that step. 2nd to stop rust in 1st place don't spend $50-150 on kroil, Fluid film, etc. My Pap worked for ford in ohio. A coworker drove a post ww2 sedan and it was mint. Pap asked him in mid 60s, How do u keep urr old car so nice close to lake, snow, salt etc. He said mix up 1 quart of any new or used oil, 1 quart of any new or used Trans fluid, 1 grease gun cartridge or tub of wheel bearing grease and 1 or 2 wax ring toilet gaskets. heat and mix in old pot and this is what that guy, pap, my dad and myself have used since after WW2 to keep our machines rust free. You can make this for about $6 with used oil and fluid. It will leave a medium hard finish. If u want a hard finish mix in some boiled linseed oil. We've used this since 60s and it has always worked, lasted years and is cheap. If you've ever seen any machines with leaks of oil, grease, trans fluid it can never rust. For doors we use melted Vaseline, or baby, mineral oil. Tape door drains, pour in using a funnel and brake line or hose and let sit a few inches high in bottom of doors. Week later drain and save for next time. I guarntee u that no rust will, can ever form. If rust is heavy use a needle scaler etc to get chunks off, then ospho, then rustoleum or I like Farm implement paint. Why u see 30 yr old farming equipment with hardly no rust. Or if you've ever painted a JD tractor or Dozer. That paint will kill a 36 grit pad. Tough stuff. Inside a box frame use a drill with a flexible shaft and short pieces of chain or brush to get inside. We've restored alot of Autos, semis, tractors, oil well engines etc and never had issues. My gr8 uncle would paint oil well metal with this mix and never had to worry about rust. U can use a brush, sprayer etc to apply. Or an old paint gun. Or make urr own from a blower nozzle with a vaccum pickup. Just get it inside frame and under body and it will last longer than u and urr grand kids.

@@mariopaintclass6091 U will know if u just spray or brush acid on car steel panels and try to shoot with epoxy. Idk about urethane, water based but acid like Ospho is only for oil based paints. Anything u use mineral spirits to clean is ok. Epoxy is not. It will not stick. And body filler also. Gotta just spray with some baking soda and water mix. A few tablespoons to a quart. Shake and spray and dry fast. If you use Muratic type acid it happens fast so can't spray and leave. In 5 min part is rust free and rinse with Baking soda water. U can't forget it. Primer, paint, filler costs alot more than it did just a few years ago. I made mistake of being in a rush and forget over a wknd and did all body work, primed and painted. 3 months later it bubbled up and I could pull it off. Had to sand and start all over. Sometimes it's easier to just make a lil blaster for sand, glass, soda etc and use it. I only use acids in certain situations. Like heavy pitting, u can never sand the pits out, especially on newer autos very thin sheet metal. It works great but just have to make sure to not forget to neutralize. Rewet if dried, let set, I use a scotch brite and bakingsoda water mix and wash, scrub and rinse. No issues then. It's like forgetting to degrease b4 painting. It's all in the prep. prep is 90% of a gr8 job. Anyone can shoot nice paint, if body work is trash, so will paint.

I’m surprised nobody mentions this. It used to be on the bottle saying it had to be rinsed off. Skip this step for many headaches. And bubbled paint

@@kengrow3992 Yes. And so many ppl don't know u can use on bare metal to protect from rusting.
I've heard so many say Yes it's gr8 for RUST but that's about it. Nope. I tested on a used muffler clamp, let sit in muratic acid for 10 min, rinsed with water and dried with heat gun and then a soak in Ospho. Still bare beautiful grey metal. Idk what it is but my wife and I say this all the time, We thought with having a PC in pocket that it'd make ppl know it alls. We was wrong. For some reason they know less. I say that if we Gen X or baby boomers had smart phones then we'd be so much further ahead than we are today.
I had a argument with a person about using on bare metal. He asked Is there a product I can use to protect my fenders after I got them to bare metal. Yes. Ospho. No that's for rust. I've used that for years. I don't doubt that. But if they read the label, it says how to use on metal with no rust.
If you don't do this in North rust country u can hear it rust if u listen close. It's a must to protect frame, body in some way. Idk why ppl don't do something. I've seen alot of good rides scrapped cause ppl don't. Like most things in life, a small amount of protection can save u alot of problems down the road. Always read the label. If ppl follow label, it's much easier.

@@maninamerica2046 Anytime. I mix my own with 1 quart of used motor oil, 1 quart of used trans fluid, 1 tube of grease and 1 wax flange gasket for toilet. Heat and mix then spray, brush etc. If need be drill and fill area then cover with rubber grommet, plug etc. U can use non oil based coatings BUT u have to reapply ospho, let sit 10 min, and then wash, rinse off and dry with heat or air. Then safe for epoxy, urethane etc. Ppl say Ospho is not good cause they don't know this. It's ruined my epoxy primer b4. Have a good wknd and get her sprayed.

And if u don't have rust that's flakes, chunks as if when u hit with a air hammer and it falls off, if u don't have that and it's like he showed, hit it with a wire wheel, etc then just use Ospho. For hard to reach areas use Muratic acid. DO NOT GET ON GOOD METAL OR PAINT, PLASTIC ETC. Or water acid down by .25, .50 even. But it will clean a old muffler clamp in about 10 min. U CAN'T leave it on or it will eat the metal. Use in hard to reach areas, rinse in 5 or 10 min with baking soda water mix. 1 cup to 1 gallon. Stops the reaction. Or just keep rinsing with water. Once 1 cup of acid at 50% strength is mixed with 1 cup of water it's at half strength now. So more water less powerful. Ospho needs the Rust to activate. It will seal bare metal too. But if u want it to react with rust and kill it, gotta leave some rust. But u gotta stop the rust. If it's a tiny bubble in paint once u get it gone it's always bigger. Like tree roots are always about twice size as it's canopy. Ospho is great inside frames, under body, etc. U can spray, brush etc however. It will leave a white chalky residue sometimes. That just means u used a lil too much. Ok. Brush or wipe away and all good. This stuff is such a life saver, time saver and work and $ saver. U will never spend $29 on a gallon of anything else that can do this for your project. Any metal project from autos, tractors, farm, household, wrought it on fenses etc. I have used it alot. Only wish I'd found out about it sooner. And Car Rep coatings. Car Rep costs same as others but has unlimited shelf life. Epoxy 2 part, clear 2 k don't matter what any 2 part coating where u pop the bottom u got 24 hours at most. Car Rep mixes when it's sprayed. So use some now, 2 months, 2 years it's all good. I use all the time cause I can't get all project ready for primer at same time and have time for completion.

Does Ospho rust treatment and Tamco HP5310 play nice together? Just Epoxy will work? Can it be sprayed around windshield channels after rust treatment then Urethane primer?

my experience with ospho on many projects has been excellent. I've done truck frames, trailers, mower decks, rusty tools etc but my application is a bit different, I spray it on, then use a green scrubby pad to really work it into the rusty area, and then I wipe it off with paper towel so you don't get that white residue and it it removes the initial rust residue all at once. Let it dry for 24 hours before painting over it.
as said DO NOT get it on tar or concrete, it actually eats a hole into it and will leave very large divots with just a few tiny drops. I always put cardboard down and then painters plastic as well to avoid any errant spray or splatter.
ALSO wear a respirator and gloves. This stuff is nasty. The fumes alone will curdle your brain cells and on the skin it does burn. I wouldn't use ANYTHING else to convert rust for the price it is stupid cheap and I've had the same gallon jug for years now.
    Thanks for the video!

Most Automotive primers (except etch)will have an adverse reaction to acid but when neutralized with soap and water then epoxy will be ok.

Hi Mario another interesting video, been using these chemical rust converters for years and they do a great job if used correctly. You can get them cheaper if you just buy phosphoric acid which is exactly the same but I think some of the better ones prime the rust as well🙏👍John UK

I had to see if someone mentioned this. I use phosphoric diluted 2:1 with water in a spray bottle and then rinse with water after a few minutes. It's definitely cheaper than name brand converts and works just as good.

Up north our salt ruins the underside of the vehicle.
Splashes up you already know. You guys in Florida it's as if the salt water gets in the air and I'm told cars that stay close to the ocean have some crazy bad internal rust damage before it ever gets to the "normally" affected areas of the car. Trolling around on Miami craigslist for cars I've seen roofs rusted out like our undercarriages on otherwise perfect cars.
